Absolutely right, which is an innate behavior that serves them well. Nothing "Shocking" about it. In fact, it's quite common and based in 'survival of the fittest'. If mom's not fit, neither is the baby she's nursing-or attempting to nurse.
She did exactly what human mothers do when their baby is chewing, or more munching at a piece of roll or fruit and mum eats the rest. And we know from watching macaques that there is a rank concerning food: At first the alpha male eats , then the other members of the troop corresponding to their rank and mothers always before thier children. That`s why mums don't tolerate ignorant feeders to give the babies food. She gets the food, she breastfeeds the baby. If the mum got plenty maybe the baby will get something - and exercising to chew vegetables is useful, so mums may tolerate that. And Rufus was comfortably in mums arm when he was munching on his eggplant - or mum's eggplant. 😉
This behavior is actually quite common among chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas, so Summer is not actually acting outside of what is generally observed for her species. Great apes share many traits with humans, however, sharing food with other members of their family group is a more complicated behavior in the great apes - their sharing of food isn't based entirely on altruism as it it more typically is in humans.
Руфусик ещё совсем маленький, ему нет и годика , он конечно начинает есть овощи , но основная пища его пока молочко мамы и пусть идёт всё своим чередом❤😊
I have seen gorillas take food from their babies, and I have seen monkeys take food from the babies. Their main source of food is in their mama‘s chest, so I don’t see that harms when they take a piece of food from a baby whose 😊main source of nourishment is their mom.
When mom eats Rufus's veggies, it helps contribute to her milk production, so her baby gets it anyway.

Happy New Year from North Carolina. I just love watching the Orangutans. Thanks so much for your care and dedication to these precious primayes.
Happy new year! Thanks so much for watching. 🥰
Great video ❤
It's just amazing how they are so much like us.
If Jingga had taken Jarangs food everybody would be bashing her for being a bad mom
🥰
I had the same thought. The moms have to eat to produce milk. If Jarang is still nursing when he's twelve, that might be a problem.
Eggplant probably. Very difficult to chew raw. She let him chew on it a while, then took it. Nothing wrong with that.

She was very gentle, it must be the Orang Utan Way, a sign he is growing up !
Yes, he sure is growing up fast. 🥰

Thanks for watching Bees and as always for the great comment. 🥰
I think Orangatans are fascinating . They truly have their own unique ways. Orangatan mom's are the best, they just live by their own rules🥰🥰🥰🦧🦧🦧
Yes, they seem to have an air of confidence about them. 🥰

Большое спасибо за просмотр, мы очень ценим это. Хорошо держаться 🥰
Summer legit said look here little man if you to keep enjoying your delicious all you can eat milk buffet, then give the food in your hand! LOL😂😂😂❤❤
Lol ❤️
Morning 🌅 baby Rufis🍼🐒❤️ and Mother 🌷🐒❤️
1-1-24
Thanks so much as always Mary 🥰
He was trying eggplant. Normal behavior for primate mothers to take food from their children at that age.
It doesn't matter what age they are. They'll take it away from them anyway, because they're greedy.😅
Looks like aubergine to me
He is a baby. He can't chew this hard food. She was being a good Mother.
I like the babies, eating eggplant and the mama was eating fennel earlier
Thanks so much for watching. 🥰

Beautiful creatures. Peaceful and majestic and way too intelligent to be locked up in a zoo.
Thanks for watching, hopefully one day they will be safe to live in the wild. 🥰
@@ApeTracker1 it would be nice but I doubt humans will ever be that decent
All primates when it comes to food are greedy when it comes to food end of conversation.😮😅
Jinga necesita nutrientes para producir mas leche.
Thanks for watching, really glad you enjoyed the video, enjoy the rest of your week and keep well.
What do orangutans smell like, a mother and child??
I always wonder how they smell. Can’t be good.
I see orang mothers take food from their babies all the time.... especially if they are not getting enough food to eat from zoo staff.
she needs food to produce milk for this little guy
And you can see there are times he wants to put it down...
I think Frans de Waal said capuchins are the only primate species to share food with their conspecifics 🤷♀️
