Thank you so much for this post..I remember "Slim" as a schoolbus driver and she worked the cafeteria at our school. He also managed the ice cream cooler. Memories..
I've loved this song and their performance since I first heard Alan Lomax's recording in the mid sixties, Fordwick65 bless your great uncle and aunt. Lots of people miss them.
This is a 1959 recording by Estil C. Ball & Blair Reedy (male) made by Alan Lomax and released on the 1960 Atlantic SD 1349 album, "White Spirituals". E.C.'s wife, Orna, doesn't appear on this track. To my knowledge the couple never released their own version. On the Atlantic album the title is abbreviated to "When I Get Home".
Wow! I've got a cassette that I made from the the album "Southern White Spirituals" collected by Alan Lomax and this is one of the songs. Would like to get a cd of the whole album if anyone knows where to get one.
This is my great uncle and aunt. I really miss them. Thank you for posting this clip.
Fordwick65 were they from eastern Ky, Wv or southwest Virginia?
