As another Trek EXE rider .. I AGREE. GREAT support from Trek local store. And Love the natural feel and the quiet ride of the motor - about 90% of the time is totally silent; and at lowest 2 gears, slight low 'whirr', but not irritating and never 'grinding' or 'rattling' sounds.
I have ridden the Trek Fuel EXE quite a few times now and really like it compared to full fat e-mtb's that I have tried. To me it just rides like an ordinary non-assisted trail bike which is how it is meant to feel. I am in an area with not much elevation and I am definitely a very heavy rider. Purely on eco I can just about get 44-48 miles (70km) out of it with about 1500 feet (500m) of elevation. I have reduced the standard default motor watts and assistance level on the eco setting (using the App) as I found it to be slightly over assisted on eco for the rolling countryside that I ride and I found wasn't getting a workout until I reduced them a little. I did toy with the idea of a range extender for when the battery dies, but it rides so well without assistance that I probably won't go for it.
I love my EXe9.7. I can’t find any faults with it. I have about 2,500 miles on it. I’ve ridden in 100° + weather without it overheating. And, mine doesn’t have any pedal response problems. Mods I’ve done are: Hope T4E4 brakes. Marzocchi coil kit for the Fox 36 Rhythm fork, 2024 Fox X2 shock. 9Point8 dropper, Wolf Tooth seatpost clamp, stem spacers and cap, SDG saddle, I9 stem, OneUp carbon bar, Death Grip grips, One Up composite pedals and Penny Flake Slik Graphics for the fork and shock to match the frame. I absolutely love it! I wouldn’t change anything.
@@sijmes I don’t believe it was. All bikes can be made better by tuning and bolting on parts that better suit the rider. I was referring to the parts that are actually made by Trek and TQ, the base package.
I have the Canyon Spectral OnFly with this motor and everything he said here is spot on. I was between this and a Pivot Shuttle SL with the Fazua motor. I went with the TQ motor because at the shop where the Pivot bike was located would not turn on and the shop manager said they are having a very hard time getting support for the motor and battery system.
I ride a lumen which has this tq motor. A few upgrades and it weighs 38lb. Anyways, I will sometimes ride it with power completely off if I’m with some slower friends. It pedals and feels like a normal bike, then another day when I want the assist, I have it. This is the first motor system I have ridden that you can ride iwth it off and it doesn’t feel like you’re powering through resistance from the motor and gearbox. Love this motor, if you want to get the most out of it pedal at a higher cadence for climbs, kind of like you would on a non-ebike
I think that definition will mostly be up to the individual when it comes to evaluating where they sit on the weight/fitness spectrum. However, using a Fox suspension setup chart as a guide, the middle of the rider weight range is 82kg. So you could say that riders further north of that would be considered ‘heavy’, and riders much lower than that could be considered ‘light’. Does that help to answer your question? [Wil]
@@FlowMountainBikeTH-cam 200lbs is known as clydesdale (think big horse) for male riders, 180lbs (82kg) can seem damn near malnurished for the full time employed 50yr old+ e MTB consumer here in the US
You make reference to a heavier vs lighter rider where would you guys see the weight at which you think this change would be? From someone hoping to get into one to help build fitness and skill
Look in the mirror. If you could see yourself playing NFL, you’re heavy. If you are thinking that maybe you could be a gymnast, then you’re lightweight. 😂
Great review Wil 👏. You mentioned how it stacks up against the fazua in terms of peak power and acceleration, just wondering how the tq stacks up against the ep8rs and bosch sx? I'd imagine these motor systems would be closer to the fazua than the tq?
I’ve tried all the light eMTB motors. The SX is by far more powerful of all, then there is the EP8 RS, then Fazua and the others. The RS is more linear of all, the SX is more dynamic…like a two stroke motor with 2 very distinct behaviors at low or high rpm
At 4:40, you mention that the system can tell based on power output whether someone is on flats or clips. How can this be true? No one has ever been able to demonstrate a difference in power output between flats and clips, even in a laboratory setting, much less an actual trail.
I bought a Fuel eXe from Trek when it first came out and loved it when it worked, but I had 5 warranty issues involving the electrics failing in the 3 months I owned it before returning it for a refund. I had never owned a Trek bike before and they were good to deal with, but the bike was rushed out before being ready - I wasted so much money and ruined so many rides that it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I just hope all these different batteries from all the different manufacturers stay permanently available. When they stop holding a charge, and the battery is no longer available, these expensive toys are all going to be in the landfill.
I'm not an e-biker but I think your concern would make me choose a larger brand like bike company that you know will still be around in years to become

I've done over 2500kms on my EXE and love the intuitive silent ride. TQ, Trek and my LBS have shown amazing support
I definitely agree it is a great bike assist i love it.

thanks for this review....looking forward to getting a trek fuel exe....and the long adventure rides...on my recovery days...
1,300 miles on my Trek. Flawless and even quieter now than new.

Sounds like you`ve already changed most of it 🤦♂
I have a lot to go. But anyway, what’s wrong with that? 🤦🏼♂️
We can all relate, just that last sentence was a bit contradictory 😆👍🏻

I do love my Trek Fuel EXe ❤
hi, in your opinion does the turbo levo sl 1.2 engine push as well as this tq engine?
The Trek Fuel EXe vs Ari Nebo Peak would be a good one.
Hi will. Thank you. How would you compare this motor to the specialized sl 1.1 motor?

How does it compare to Orbea Rise?
I returned my Fuel eXe after the fifth warranty issue over faulty electrics and replaced it with an Orbea Rise, which has been flawless

Have heard of more than a few failures of the tq motor.

So explain to me why other Bike manufacturers are now fitting the TQ HPR50 motor.😉

Haha close minded individual.
Not everyone needs full power or a 50 lbs pig of a bike.

It's actually "couldn't" care less vs could.
