The reason it was near the trash was because , there was another person that had the ring, (the other dead guy) and when the monster ate him the ring was taken back by the monster for it to happen to another victim, (not troll) which when he picked up the ring was seeing the monster (as we are) then he decided to throw it out. then when people saw the ring they left it alone probably where suspicious of it or didn't care, untill troll. I think I get it, the ring is some kind of memetically powered device the monster uses to hunt, the item on the surface is of high value, it tests there greed and if they take it with them then there screwed because everytime it leaves or enters a building or goes to another room theres a chance for him to enter the mirror dimension to where he is then toyed with and eventually killed by the monster.
this is actually a very cool concept, you enter a pocket dimension that is like an exact replica of your real world, but people from the real world can't see you, and you can't see other people.
I'm suspecting that the strange diamond ring was left by the person in the hotel room, (the person who died), and the diamond ring somehow causes the holder to join a new dimension where there is nobody except a strange creature somehow connected to the ring.
The most disturbing thing about this is non of the passengers were wearing a seatbelt
