I just got one of these from Amazon and it's a decent little guitar out of the box. For what it's worth, a few things I did that improved it tremendously: 1. Conditioned the neck - it was bone dry. Now it's nice and dark and feels smooth. 2. Put a set of Elixir 12-53 Nanoweb. 3. Took the crappy tuners off and installed a set of Grover open back tuners on that I had laying around. Sustain is way better now and it's quite enjoyable to play...even when not around the campfire. Most definitely worth the $200 I paid for it.
i bought this exact guitar at the music shop at the mall about 5 years ago and i love it! i play with it a couple times a year. have never learned a song. took lessons at the college for 6 months. professor was 88. he only wanted me to learn to read music. i wanted to learn how to play three chords and a strumming pattern. nope. i am now retired and if it is the last thing on earth that i learn, i will learn to play a whole song. I LOVE MY GUITAR!!!!

I’ve been eyeing this guitar for a while and I keep seeing that it sounds amazing when plugged in and have been having a hard time finding a review where the guitar is played without the pick up. (Both options are really appealing to me - but particularly the unplugged option for now!) Thank you for this! I’m really considering it now. hopefully I’ll come back to you a year from now and be able to tell you that I know how to play it! But we continued to keep an eye on this APXT2 and we got a used one a few months ago. My 7year old has been playing on it a lot, too! We love it, and it’s true, it sounds so fabulous when plugged into an amp. 😍 We love these Yamahas!

Don't have mine yet!. Due in by Thursday! From what I have read from numerous sites. the Tabacco burst is in the exotic woods (APX T2 EW) name with a manogo veneer for the top laminate. From what I have heard thru various sites. The mango sounds (to me) near identical to the spruce. Remember these do not have soilid wood, anywhere which has kept the cost down.
I own 2 of these babies. I will say they needed a little “upgrade” work. I got rid of the crappy imitation Tone-Pro tuners and installed a set of Grover Sta-Tite butterbean tuners on the first one and Schaller Grand Tune butterbeans on the other one. I also put on a Tusq nut, saddle, and bridge pins and finished it off with Elixir .011 80/20 strings. For what you pay, these guitars are pretty decent! Btw, they sound “okay” unplugged. However, when you plug it in, it sounds like a guitar w/ a larger body. One thing I did that nobody really comments on is I got a hardshell case. I’m always skittish about gig bags.

Yamaha has a variety of guitars made in different locations. Some are handmade. It's a big serious, multifaceted company and not easily dismissed. They are amazing guitars. I tried all the acoustics and the Yamaha sounded the best, better than the Martins etc..... Yamaha pianos are amazing too. It's an excellent company. They have lots of resources and strive to excellence in every area.
I thought he was being quite dismissive when he said there were better brands than Yamaha, but then says this guitar was the best sounding out of the 12 others he tried. This guitar is made to a price that is very affordable, but Yamaha also makes some very high quality, expensive instruments. They're the biggest makers of musical instruments in the world, so they cater to a variety of price points.
agreed, Yamaha is the standard for brass band instruments everywhere I've seen. Both my entry level and professional level trombones are yamaha and the professional instrument cost more than most accoustic guitars and is worth every penny.
I am a complete newbie and looking for a small guitar (I'm a small girl!) and after watching this video, I think I will go for this one! Quick question though: can I plug this into headphones so I don't disturb my family while playing?
You would have to plug it into an amp, then you could use headphones from the amp. You can't plug headphones directly into it. But honestly, with a guitar this small you shouldn't have any problems bothering the family. It's much quieter than a full-sized guitar. You could easily play it in a bedroom with the door closed and not bother anyone.
If u dont wanna disturb ur family, dont play acoustic guitar, even if ur using headphone through amp and headphone, ppl around u still can hear ur playing cause its acoustic, but if u play full solid electric with amp and headphone trust me no one cant hear

I’m looking everywhere for a guitar, I’ve tried so many times to learn but my hands are so small that I just can’t stick a normal sized guitar! How do you think I’d get along with this one? You mentioned the neck being fatter than you’d have liked, would this be a problem for someone with childishly small hands like me??
the fretboard is about the same width as a full size, but the fret spacing is considerably smaller. For me, after not playing it for a while, it feels a bit cramped. My wife has much smaller hands than me and loves it so it might be a good fit for you. if there is a Sam Ash or guitar center (etc) in your area call them to see if they have one you could check out.

I put the guitar in its gigbag, then put it in a "drybag" with my sleeping bag bedroll and cloths, then strap the bag to the passenger backrest using heavy-duty bungee cords.
i assume your voice and guitar are both being recorded on the one mic we can see in front of you? Can i ask what mic that is, and is it going straight into your computer, or a mixer, or...? Cheers mate!
For this video, I was using a Rode shotgun mic for the talking and a Sure SM57 to record the guitar. At the time I didn't have an interface to record directly into the computer so I was using a small Mackie 4-channel mic mixer to set the mic levels and running the mixer straight into the camera. The camera was a Canon T5i
Is this a nylon string or steel string guitar? I'm not fan of Spanish/classical guitars but I have big fingers and like the wider fretboard. So my main points before a possible purchase is if this is essential an acoustic steel stringed guitar with a wider fretboard in the style of a classical?
I use Martin light gauge (the blue package) on this. The string debate is a "can O worms", but I like Martin strings and the lights feel pretty perfect on this.
@@cynthiasmith7065 light gauge strings have no effect on picking or strumming. But they do affect string tension and playability dependent on scale length (the length of the guitar's neck). If you have a short scale guitar (like this one) medium or heavy strings have to get really tight to tune up to standard pitch. I mean so tight that your fingers and the guitar's neck are going to hate you.
Can you give an update? I’m thinking about buying this guitar for my son who is a beginner. Do you think this is a good choice for the money and him being a beginner?
Since getting it just over a year ago it's been strapped to the back of my motorcycle and taken camping at least 15 times. It's still in great shape, still stays in tune, still impresses all of my guitar playing friends. For what these cost and how well they play and hold up I have no problem recommending one for your son.
It holds tune great. Twice I've had it strapped to the back of my Harley for 600+ miles and ended up being shocked that it came out of the bag still in tune.
Nice honest review! Guitars and bikes and campfires are an awesome combo. I got one of these in the old violin burst about a week ago, changed the strings to Martin SP lights and gave the fretboard a good drink too and as others have said the neck was desert dry so even that makes a huge difference. Love this wee guitar, quality and no issues ( other than dry neck and crappy stock strings ) Comes with a gig bag too. Cool videos man. Thanks from Scotland. 👍
You can definitely put nylon strings on it. I don't know much about nylon strings, but based on my experience with standard acoustic strings I would try Martin's classical strings.
How thick is that neck at 1f/12f? I have tiny hands and if the depth of that neck is like a baseball bat I can't handle it as I fucked up my thumb joints last year learning on a baseball bat.

Please don't buy it. I am not happy after online shopping. Frets are very small and strings narrow too. Sound is more treble so strumming sound is not good by using pick but only by hands ok. I am surprised to see why yamaha gave 21 frets in such a small guitar while they could use less fret to increase space to initial 4 frets which are very very tight and few chords specially AMajor hard to play on it. I am repenting after buying it so very bad decision for myself. Only looks great but not good for learners. Neck is very slim too
Please shut up. The frets aren't "very small" and "very, very tight". The neck width is 1.725 inches or 44mm, which isn't small. My Fender Mustang, which has a 24 inch scale, is 1.575 Inches or 40mm in comparison and the fret spacings are only slightly narrower on the Yamaha, maybe one milimeter less on the first three frets. If you're having trouble with Am learn how to barr it with one finger as many players do, regardless of the fret width of their guitar. If you have sausage fingers, that's not the guitars fault, and you should avoid any short scale guitars. There are plenty of people with small hands that welcome them, as full size is too big for them.

Bruh, chance ur string, set up properly and chance the nut to bone nut if ur need too. Note chance ur string every 3 months if ur really active *(4+ hours playing everyday). Base on my exp if ur playing active u shoukd chance string every 3 month or its sound like shit, and one more, dont use cheap pick atleats 85 cent pick (ernieball) its should be enough, im using 40 dollar acoustic 3/4 from local brand and still work find

Plugged in it sounds better than many full sized guitars. I never get feedback problems, just place your amp correctly

It's a standard nut width (1" 11/16th). When you are playing the first 3 frets it feels very close to a standard dreadnought.

Sorry, I don't have any way to measure something that light. I'd be surprised if it weighed 5 pounds though, it's very light.

It's a steel string guitar strung with Martin light gauge bronze wound strings. It's basically a normal acoustic guitar just 3/4 the size.

Yes its great for kid under 13 but if ur son 13+ i recomend bring him to music center and play difrent size guitar and let him chose the size he want

Please shut up. The frets aren't "very small" and "very, very tight". The neck width is 1.725 inches or 44mm, which isn't small. My Fender Mustang, which has a 24 inch scale, is 1.575 Inches or 40mm in comparison and the fret spacings are only slightly narrower on the Yamaha, maybe one milimeter less on the first three frets. If you're having trouble with Am learn how to barr it with one finger as many players do, regardless of the fret width of their guitar. If you have sausage fingers, that's not the guitars fault, and you should avoid any short scale guitars. There are plenty of people with small hands that welcome them, as full size is too big for them.

Bruh, chance ur string, set up properly and chance the nut to bone nut if ur need too. Note chance ur string every 3 months if ur really active *(4+ hours playing everyday). Base on my exp if ur playing active u shoukd chance string every 3 month or its sound like shit, and one more, dont use cheap pick atleats 85 cent pick (ernieball) its should be enough, im using 40 dollar acoustic 3/4 from local brand and still work find
