Lol. I have a few homemade bongs in my possession. I'm a big fan of the Voss water bottle ones. But the fairy/christmas lights in a jar thing is one of those projects that I want to do, but never got around to it.
Thank you much. I just tried your technique (my first time ever cutting/drilling glass) and it worked beautifully. Now I can finish the lamp I am crafting for my little girl. Much Gratitude to you for this tutorial.
Dude, thanks for teaching how to drill a wine bottle. I’m an artist, transitioning into glass painting vs. landscape canvas. Thanks again! Regards, Scott
I'm so glad that I found this video! I've been terrified to attempt drilling through glass, but your video has given me the confidence. I look forward to watching more of your how to guides.
Sigh if only i would have simply looked this shit up before..... I've shattered about SIX wine bottles trying to drill a hole in them to make a... um... smoke producing "incense burner"
Thank you for this video...taping the area to keep the bit from shifting is a good idea....using water not only cools the bottle, it also reduces the glass dust in the air....construction workers use this idea when demolishing a building.... Also, please consider using a rubber grommet in the hole as you thread the electrical cord...;-D...just a suggestion...
I know that it has been a bit since you posted, but do you know if you can soak the bottle in water as you are drilling or will it crack? does it have to be running water?
Saeid, back in the 60's, the owner of our local lumberyard showed my dad and I how you can cut glass with tin snips...underwater. It leaves a very ragged edge, so it's more like a last resort, but what is amazing is the glass doesn't just shatter. We did it in a lavatory, so it was barely even submerged. Should make the drilling operation faster and more forgiving, but *do not* use a *corded* drill! Great production as usual, my friend!
+not2fast4u2c Hello. These drill bits I'm using are very cheap and are made for drilling tiles. Each hole takes roughly 2 minutes. Hope all is well with you. Saeid
Hello Saeid, I have just been given about 30 glass bottles to drill holes in them. Do you have any idea how much to charge per bottle? just thought I would ask in case you have done such a job.
Nice video. I'm curious if the drill has to be in the 'hammer' setting or 'regular' setting. I noticed you changed a setting during 1:05 - was this to 'hammer' setting? Thank you again for the video!
why not get a bigger pan and fill it with water. submerge the bottle in it, so you don't have to lean over the sink. this does several things: you don't risk pouring water in your drill since it's above the pan: and you can be at a table or bench sitting comfortably using 2 hands. use a table lamp to see better.
Because - as best you can - you want to keep the labels dry so they don’t come off. If you’ve got a bottle with branding that’s in the moulded glass bottle itself then you could submerge it.
I in the basement at my friends and I thought some one snuck up behind me and had me totally unprepaired, caught off guard and... then I realized it was the vid :)
Interessante, trabalhei com jatato de areia e na mesma loja furava,se garrafas com brocas de diamante. Detalhe, lá eu era apenas o desenhita do jato de areia, mas nunca comprei uma broca diamantada!
How many bottles do you think you can cut before you have to replace it?? Do you think it would drill like five or six bottles? Do they have to be diamond bits?
here is a tip for drilling holes in glass: make a ring from modeling clay slightly larger than your hole... you can put water in it to keep the drill bit cool,, and you know when you are through because the water runs into the bottle
I seen incense burners made from old whiskey and wine bottles with a hole in the bottom. My question is does the hole have to be in a specific place at the bottom does anybody know.
Long time did not have your video :(. And what will happen to the bottle? Did the foundation for a table lamp or she will be filled with Christmas garlands;) Mark Fisher. Ukraine.
+AlfFisher Hi Mark. Yes, I've been busy with work (-: There are a few things you can do with the bottles or the glass jars once you drill a hole in them. I will upload a video with some ideas soon.
glass is very hard. requires diamond or carbide drill bit. tile drill bits are used since tile is similar to glass and inexpensive, they are mass produced.
Yes
Christmas lights
That's exactly what I came here for

GREAT idea Saeid. I like all your projects. Most can be done with common tools and we get wonderful results.
Thanks again.
+Sebastopolmark
Thank you. Common tools is what I have, so that's what I work with.
Thanks so much. I was going so slow with the drilling and I was exhausted. Now I know I can apply some pressure.👍

+not2fast4u2c
Hello. These drill bits I'm using are very cheap and are made for drilling tiles. Each hole takes roughly 2 minutes.

Can you do it with a unopened bottle?
Like the eg Civic shirt
would you apply the same pressure to the bottle while drilling as you would to wood or other materials, I'm just scared of shattering the bottle?
Not at all. you have to press very gently
Nice I have same drill
Question is: where are you getting the 2 types of special drill bits at ??
I suspect the greengrocer does not have them.
Please text what is exactly head which drills bottle how to find ebay or homedepot?

Will these bits be good for drilling through much thicker glass? Like a solid casting ( say 5cm) Thanks!
+Ernest Ruger no!
Thought not. Thought it might be a good way to explode your piece :( What (if anything) would you use?
شكرا لك

How many bottles do you think you can cut before you have to replace it?? Do you think it would drill like five or six bottles? Do they have to be diamond bits?
+Jennifer Strausser I start with a small bit and work my way up. That way my bits last maybe up to 10 bottles, or more. They are not diamond bits
