@@Kathy-pr4wu there a short clip of what appears to be her mother, who is an actress, in a clip with her “boyfriend” which is david bowie. Its hard to spot but its there. Its like a tabloid clip on her vanity/dresser
@@Kathy-pr4wu if you look closely, everything in the film is foreshadowed in her bedroom at the beginning. The entire trip through the labyrinth is a manifestation of Sarah's fantasies. You see a newspaper clipping on her dresser of an actress who has a steamy kiss with her co-star, the implication is that her mother left her father for her co-star, who is David Bowie in the picture. It's laid out more explicitly in the novel adaptation, Sarah has a kind of crush on the actor, he takes her mother and Sarah out to dinner, and he's the first man (out adult even) to ever treat Sarah as an adult, he doesn't talk down to her and takes her thoughts and feelings seriously, he dances with her and she develops a kind of crush. Ultimately it's a coming of age story, and Sarah is grapling with moving from childhood into adulthood, and her sexual fantasies also help to manifest Jareth as we see him. Next time you watch it, see what you can spot in her bedroom, the Escher stairs, Ludo, the cleaners, the goblin King doll, it's all there.
David IS her mother's boyfriend. Watch the tracking shot across her desk in the beginning that reveals all her belongings. That tells the whole story right there. Her mother was an actress who ran off with another man. The daughter aspires to be like her mother: to be an actress, run away from her home and responsibilities, and find a man to fall in love with. When overcome with the responsibilities of looking after her little brother, she descends into a fantasy world where she imagines what it would be like if all her dreams came true. In doing so, she realizes what she's giving up and must grapple with her desires and responsibilities as she transitions from a child to an adult. The Labyrinth, David Bowie, and all the friends she meets, are merely reflections of her subconscious as she struggles with these psychological issues. It blows me away how people can watch this movie and not understand it. It's basically a loose retelling of The Wizard Of Oz, where the moral to the story is "there's no place like home", except with the added dimension of her transition from a girl to a woman.
This made my entire day like brooo the ballroom scene where she gets to dance with Bowie makes me so jealous and to think she wants to get back home and not stay with him blows my mind, imagine having to do the last scene knowing it's like the last time u be with him like ahhh!!

@@daviddemar8749 I agree with you and this is one of my favorite "cult following" movies. Another movie that I think was under appreciated was Legends with Tim Curry, Mia Sara and Tom Cruise at the very beginning of his career.

Wow ive never heard of that one either. I didn't know that mia sara had been in anything else besides ferris bueller's day off. Gracias para su recomendacion yo mirare esta pelicula esta noche!
David Bowie the Legend, and the Movie still to this Day a Masterpiece
My daughter watched this movie on video when she was a teenager, many, many times. She loved it.
There's never been a movie made that comes close to comparing to this masterpiece.
Loved it. A cool and unique movie. I would love to see it remade with today's technology. Really miss Bowie and his music. Always look forward each holiday season to see and hear David and Bing doing the Little Drummer Boy. A totally unexpected duet that kicked Ass
I was just watching this. I love this movie. One of my all time favorites. And david bowie is a legend one of my fav singers of all time. This movie will always be a part of my collection. Such a phenomenal magical just all around amazing movie. Loved the acting the music loved everything about it. And Jennifer Is such a beautiful soul. RIP David Bowie you may be gone but you'll never ever be forgotten💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 david bowie played Jareth so flawlessly like that character will always be my favorite.
His Talent spanned over 45 yrs for me, The most original artist I have ever seen.
Such a great classic movie. Still a popular movie years n years later.
How have I never seen this. Seriously, I’m an 80s kid..Graduated 92. This has to be in my time era? Something “tragic” must’ve happened in my teen years that sent me under a rock. 😂 Jennifer looked SOOO different when she was young!
I TOTALLY agree!!! Dental work is one aspect that has changed. And just the natural aging process.
This is probably my all time favourite movie. Great that this rare gem got released.
I know a man.
What man?
The man w/the power.
What power?
The power of voodoo!
RIP David Bowie.💗🌹
Voodoo?
@@reachandler3655 You do!
@@dg271 Do what?
@@reachandler3655 It's from the Magic Dance in Labyrinth, similar to one in the 1947 Cary Grant movie "The Bachelor and the Bobysoxer"
What power? Power of voodoo
Who do? You do
@@dg271 I know, I was continuing the song.
I absolutely love this movie and Jennifer Connolly rocks this movie!!!
Grew up on this movie! Sounds like she picked up our accent while she worked over here on the movie haha
I noticed that as well. There is a slight but noticeable English twinge.
I'm an American and it seems to happen to me as soon as I get off an airplane in London! Haha!! Some people are definitely more susceptible to picking up on the accents around them and Jennifer Connelly is probably the same way. I know I have to consciously fight it off and I think most of the time when I'm in England, I end up sounding very similar to Jennifer Connelly in that clip. A Londoner once even assumed I must have lived somewhere else other than America because my American accent was so "light". Nope, just a full American trying desperately not to float into your accent while I'm talking to you. 🤣
I noticed that too. I searched the comments to see if anyone mentioned it!
I was wondering about that how her accent kept slipping.
I was confused at first because I could have sworn she was American. Thanks to the comments it's clear now that it's just that accent drift that sometimes happens when you're in a different place.
The song during the ballroom dance is so good I'm surprised it's not really known out of the movie
RIP MR. DAVID & MR
JIM. You both are missed.💮🌸💮
One of a kind film, absolutely awesome, unfortunately there'll never be another one like it.
Jennifer was only 14 and carried herself with such grace and was so articulate if only young girls carried themselves like that nowadays, She still looks as beautiful as ever, David was the perfect choice for the king 👑
My writing is to Jennifer she has inspired me to try to make a film by her to make people understand alot more about what people with disabilities have to go through especially people with head injurys like myself
This movie is beautiful, but there shall not be a remake that can rival Bowie's Jareth.
Give the re-boot ie regurgitate generation of " creators" some idiot will. AND they'll ruin it and tick all of us off.
I agree with you. There are just some movies that the second someone utters, "remake" or "reboot", that person should be escorted off the set/lot and permanently banned from reentry.
It's been years since I've seen this film. Time to revisit it again.
This is 1 of my favorite movies! I could watch it all the time
RIP Bowie, he was truly one of a kind
She aged like fine wine
I was obsessed when I was a young girl. He was one of my first crushes… could never understand why I was so attracted to an older man in makeup 🤔😆 Clearly I wasn’t the only one! RIP handsome…I would’ve stayed 😏 You had all the power.
Labyrinth which I read about from the internet is basically a retelling of beauty and the beast.
I watched this as a child and I still have a crush on Jennifer
We will miss you David and I don't really think they should make a part 2 because without David it will be nothing
Love the movie! David Bowie was fantastic and Jennifer Connelly was lovely. She still is.✨✨
Bowie was a genius
Didn't know I needed to watch this again thanks for reminding me.
Such a wonderful and enchanting movie, cast and crew. Definitely more than worthy of being a cult classic 🥺
I miss Bowie I wish he was still here in this world he deserves to live rest in peace Bowie we miss you❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Bowie❤ icon ❤my hero forever❤ everything about him..and the movie Wow my best memory as a child .. that was it i fell in love with the coolest persona and music ❤
Jennifer Connelly - what an actress
I was 10 when I saw this for the first time. And 34 years later I still know the lines by heart, despite English not being my first language.
Happy anniversary labyrinth
"A genius who had the time to be kind." 💖👑💎
My WORD. Jennifer was STARTLINGLY gorgeous!!!!!
Oh Jim and David, miss you both so much
My Favorite film of all time ^.^
And Never ending story.
@@federicosagun4615 My video tape of that was absolutely battered too 😂
Not sure why they never made a proper sequel 20yrs later
I use to know all the words to that movie!
I like Jennifer Connelly’s shirt, especially with the sleeves rolled up.
David gave us SO much for so long. He was a great loss.
Had the DVD so long takes me back.
I remember getting a new Trinitron and getting this movie for it on the same day. It was a good memory.
Bowie was too damn cool for us.
