I am telling you. You gotta see Bruno live. I wasn’t a fan of Bruno until I saw his Moonshine Jungle World Tour. From there, I became a fan. His live version is definitely better than the recording. I was in awe when he sang Gorilla. That man can sing!
From the sound of his performance here, I think there is little doubt that he must have been under the weather. He avoids some of the higher notes, which is typical if you have a severe enough throat infection. And as you say, in other tv performances he has been immaculate, effortlessly holding his own next to Bruno.
I just saw SILK SONIC last month at the Park MGM. Las Vegas. Best show I have EVER seen! It was so much fun. Bruno, Anderson and the rest of the band sounded amazing. Everyone sang and danced from beginning to end of the show. That includes BTS (they were there in the audience)!
Ive been a fan of Anderson since 2015. You know hes not just into rapping. His songs Silicon Valley, suede etc. you can literally hear he has great vocals as well
I won’t argue that Bruno is a superior vocalist. Anderson has more R&B raw sexual energy coming at us. The perfect magical blending of their 2 vocal styles, the harmonies and masterful songwriting is what makes Silk Sonic even better than the individual artists, to me.
One thing I will say, is that while Andy did have a really cool unique voice prior to working with Bruno, his vocals/vocal technique has gotten SO MUCH better! This was still one of their first live performances together so u could hear that real gritty sound in his voice, which he still has but he utilizes it a lot better now, and how he could be a little off from the notes. But as time goes on his vocal performances just get better and better and I'm honestly so proud of him. Cuz i LOVE his voice, it's such an awesome pairing with Bruno's. I just rewatched their performance of Smokin Out the Window at the AMAs right after I watched this reaction and his voice is so smooth and his pitch is great and he's able to hit the notes of that song really well. I would imagine that Bruno and some others behind the scenes have been able to help him with his voice cuz he's improved so much and he just sounds so good now!
Bruno is the ultimate showman! Love him and Andy together...saw Bruno live twice (solo) and it was everything! I'm 74 years old, love almost every genre of music but Bruno knows how to make you have fun! Just subed!love your reaction! Thanks for the vid! 💓

Aside from their love for the genre, BOTH Andy & Bruno, are great at improvising their melodies & adlibs, which you can hear when checkin out their other live performances (AMA’s, Grammys ‘21, BET awards). Anderson definitely improved his vocal game coming alongside Bruno, & has admitted that Bruno pushed him. You can hear the difference checking Anderson’s own work with the Free Nationals. He’s had the stage charisma for awhile now, but has increased quality of his vocal work with Silk Sonic, in addition to doing things most folks can’t when it comes to drumming, singing & rapping simultaneously. They also trade lines & harmonize so well because of their elite musicianship, compared to many industry artists. Ex: Put On A Smile, from the album, & latest live performance, the ConFunkShun cover, Love’s Train. Cool reaction. 👍

I think Anderson was just tired for this performance. They had done a ton of award shows and their residency in Vegas. But Anderson's vocals add a lot to what Bruno is doing, what they call a "friendly competition", as was shown here, playful. This reviewer says something about how it isn't fair to put Anderson's voice up against Bruno's, that is not what they're doing at all. When I listen, I don't compare them, far from it, I enjoy how well they mesh.

If you were to go back and look at some of their in-depth interviews, Anderson talks about how Bruno was pushing him to take his voice where it wasn't meant to go. Their voices are meant to compliment one another, as in contrast, not imitate one another. Anderson's style is completely different than Bruno's. If you were to go listen to and watch Anderson's videos you would know this. While "Leave The Door Open" is the first song that they released, it's not the first song that they wrote together. Their first song, "Smokin Out The Window" they began writing when Anderson's band was the opening act for Bruno. It was years later, during the pandemic lockdown was when the song was completed. This album, if what I have heard is correct, came about as a result of not being able to tour for either Anderson and Bruno because of the pandemic. They seem to genuinely like one another and have enjoyed their journey together. There was NO Silk Sonic prior to Bootsy Collins giving them that name. Anderson Paak and Bruno Mars = Silk Sonic, it's not Bruno Mars and Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars featuring Silk Sonic, or any other iteration. These two guys are the group, Silk Sonic. I don't know if the other two singers and band members fall under that name, but to reiterate, there was no group. I think when they wrote the song, "Smokin Out The Window" it was just a song that they were collaborating on, and the album happened organically.

It is designed to pay homage to the R&B/ Funk/Soul groups of the past. Anderson’s voice is not damaged 🤦🏾♂️ As he got more comfortable in this character, he intentionally put rasp in his voice to sound like soul legends such as Eddie Levert, Paul Williams, Otis Redding, James Brown, and Teddy Pendergrass. It’s wild that you would jump past all of that, or vocal fatigue, or a cold, and went straight to “his voice must be damaged”… smh

They're making show shows in Las Vegas, everybody who goes says it's mind blowing I think the last dates is the August if I'm not wrong.
