- Arriving into Las Vegas after a very short night flight from San Francisco, on one of United's Domestic 777s. I love flying widebody aircraft on short flights; I'm not sure exactly why they upgauged to a 777 that day (they did the same for two other flights), but I was glad I got to fly one. This particular aircraft was Boeing's second prototype, and had its first flight on July 15, 1994, making it the oldest 777 in service today.
Our approach path started west of the airport, heading east to pass the strip & the airport on the south side before flipping around to line up for landing onto Runway 8L. After landing, we crossed the adjacent runway and made our way back to the D gates. It was a pretty quiet and routine arrival from a flying standpoint, but things were a little more interesting in the cabin, with two people in the lavatories as we were landing and someone getting up while we were taxiing. But the flight attendants were really awesome on this flight; we chatted a lot while we were boarding, and they even came to check on me and my video a couple of times during the approach.
In case you missed it (and if you want to hear some great PW4000 engine sounds), check out the takeoff video here: • United 777-200 Short T... .
