  • Technics' SL-G700 MkII is so much more than a CD player. For audiophiles looking for a multi-purpose bit of kit for their hi-fi system, this has it all - from streaming to use as a DAC.
    The SL-G700 can be thought of as more of a digital hub; an all-in-one piece of equipment that's perfect for the home.
    Being a digital piece of equipment the SL-G700 works perfectly with the fully digital amplifiers in Technics' line-up. This means the sound quality is faultless and each piece of kit complements the other to the maximum.
    As with the rest of Technics' products, the build quality is next to none. Its aluminium tray proves that it doesn't just look good on the outside, and it's just a beautiful piece of equipment to use with a fantastic knob that really enhances the experience.
    Audiophiles know that the small, marginal gains are what can make or break a hi-fi system, and it's this that Technics is so aware of. They continue to smash it out of the park with the SL-G700!
    Special Offer! Buy any Technics product with HiFi Corner and you will receive a free pair of EAH-AZ70W wireless headphones for free!

    I had a Technics system for 35 years, and I used it a lot. Eventually the CD player died and I decided to get something new. I've got a decent stop-gap set-up for now but I'm looking to get this piece for my future set-up.

    The attempted cover for why the SU G700 amp is not a balanced design or does not have XLR is an ABSURD cop-out at this price

      It’s simply missed on this amp to save on cost, you get it on the 1000 amplifier

    So at the 8 minute mark or so, you're saying digital out is best, but does that include SACD's as well. I ask because a common talking point on SACD players is that the digital out quality is not full SACD, it is a PCM section of the disc (or something like that; lot's of back and forth arguing in forums).

      Yeah this won't be able to digitally output DSD from an SACD.

    You mention that it’s Roon ready or can work with Roon, 100% wrong, I’ve even used your staff Tony to investigate that one thing he tried for hours to find a way to get Roon working or connected to this SACD player, no joy, this product isn’t Roon compatible.

    Does it have volume control on digital outputs? I recently read about the Peachtree GAN1 which is a fully digital amp with only a coaxial digital input and therefore needs a digital transport with volume control. Thanks

    In all of that, you didn't mention anything about the most important improvements that set this MKII apart from the original, one of which is the DAC. Honestly, the only difference that he even mentioned was the knob.

    • @hi-ficorner

      The transport is also improved :)

      Is the new Sabre ESS ES9026PRO really better then the old AKM chip? Some say, Sabre is more clean, analytical and AKM more warm. Some say, that‘s a lot of BS, cause the programming of the chip and the other components in a DAC matter most/more. How would you compare the AKM chip sonicly with the new ESS Chip in the mk2 version?

    Hi Joe. Thanks for this video. Like you, I'm not a streamer, but I do have Roon. Kevin states that the SL-G700M2 is Roon-ready, and I believe him...I just don't know how to make that piece work. Do you? Maybe through Google Home somehow? Via Chromecast? Maybe it needs to be connected to the Roon source via USB? I do have the latest update installed. Thanks again.

      It will be ROON ready they’re currently working on the update then when it’s ready they’ll release it as an official update activating that functionality.

    I have the mk1 version. Would I gain anything by upgrading to the mk2? I'm using the technics su-r1000 amplifier

    • @kevinwalker8639
      @kevinwalker8639 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kenneth the improvements are in the DAC so it depends on how you are outputting from it and the Transport plus it will become ROON ready via an update.

    • @AudioheavenDenmark
      @AudioheavenDenmark ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinwalker8639 I'm using roon. And can't use roon with the mk1. They should do a lan firmware update to adress this. Cause I really like the akm dacs in the mk1. Not a. It fan of Sabre dacs. I was hoping the mk1 could be used with roon via the network. But it onky works with chromecast over roon. And that really don't sound good at all. So I'm just using it as a transport in to my technics su-r1000 at the moment. And then roon via USB to the amp

    • @kevinwalker8639
      @kevinwalker8639 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kenneth yeah my personal SL-G700 is mk1 and it bizarrely not only needs firmware but it’s also a hardware change that is needed hence why they can’t do that. I don’t use ROON so doesn’t impact me luckily as the streaming capability is really very good. Out of curiosity have you tried the Technics audio Center app?

    • @AudioheavenDenmark
      @AudioheavenDenmark ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinwalker8639 yes. It's horrible unstable and very laggy. The UI is so bad I can't bare to use it. But I must say that the amps internal digital playback is so good that I really only use it as a transport. And for sacd. But I'm thinking about maybe selling it and get the mk2.

    I have seen a comment that Tidal is only received as Red Book resolution, not as hi res because of its link to Chromecast. Is that true?

    • @fabrized
      @fabrized ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it isn't true at all. The Technics supports natively Tidal and mqa full rendering, which is the way through which Tidal delivers hires audio. You can also choose to go the Chromecast route for convenience but yes, in that case I think the mqa decoding won't happen so you'll be listening at cd quality.
      That said, mqa is now in bankrupt so if you're interested in hires streaming my suggestion is to go with Qobuz, which the sl-g700 mark2 also natively support (mark1 didn't).

    • @ron101346
      @ron101346 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm not referring to MQA. My point is that the Technics only communicates via Chromecast (built-in) or via its app which communicates via Air Play---both of which only pass CD-quality music (16 bit/44 Hz), not hi-res. The only way to extract hi-res music, I believe, is to play SACDs via analog output, and use the Technics remote control, not the app. We need confirmation from Technics about this, not guesses from readers.
