I trained Peek-a-boo in the late 80s and that is very similar to how I wrapped and what I've shown boxers I've trained in the Army. Xing across the back tightens everything nicely when the fist is clinched, the palm is open, and KOs on the way. Anomaly from Streetbeefs Scrapyard.

I like this because if you need more knuckle protection you can just throw in a gauze knuckle pad and finish off with tape like you said and that’s damn near a fight wrap. Good shit jens.
