  • What up guys in this video I head down to lake Cathie to chase come flathead I ended up with about 12 fish in 2 hours all on the one lure a diawa double clutch turned out to be a great session comment
    Down below what you guys believe should be done with lake Cathie as in open it up wider maybe put in a break wall keep it open permanently or maybe leave it and wait for it to open naturally #thefishingcartel #lakecathie #fishing

    This is where I gained my passion for fishing. I first fished there 45 years ago when I stayed at my grandparents place. I can remember one day catching 14 flatties in one session, a great lasting memory for me. I’ve got to say the exact same discussions were being had back in those days. Should it be opened or closed? Should council do it or should we wait for the big tide. It makes sense to flush it to me. Good luck, great memories.

    It's been a problem for a long time. The lake has always opened and closed naturally. The issue now is lack of water flow when it's open due to when both bridges were built they were narrowed significantly to what was naturally there before. The lake is slowly silting up because of this reduced water flow. The council and government know this and how to fix it but continue to do nothing. If they widened the main bridge and kendall drive bridge nature would do the rest. It use to be one of the most beautiful places going. Very sad!

    Great vid mate. I’ve had my best ever flathead session there taking in 4 fish over 70cm in the space of half an hour. Great just to watch them swim away as well. Yeah it needs something done there to retain good quality water for the fish and birds etc. those few deeper bends before it heads into Innes lake supposedly hold the odd school Jew and maybe a few bullies as well. With water that shallow bassday sugarpen would be crazy fun for a surface flathead strike. Get your hands on the crossfire lure 120 mm bent surface minnow..

      Yeah I could imagine there are some big girls in there swimming about and bullsharks I was thinking that when I was there if there were any in there haha I’ve been looking around for a crossfire

    Great 12 flatties not knowing the area but seems the same as Smiths Lake which needs some rain to fill up then before it floods they open it up.But we are just not getting that normal Mid coast rains.

      Yeah it’s a very similar lake to smiths lake but not as big

      On the twitch twitch pause I get the DC buried in the mud a bit in shallows at lake Cathie which seems to put off the big girls in the deeper water it works well though I caught some nice 65 cm plus in the lake the other day. She is nice now the lake is open again thanks to some locals who dug it out in the night 😂it’s been open for about 6 months and looks good for the current Christmas holidays

    Great fish bro I think they should open it up can't just depend on rain to fill it

    As a kid 20 years ago I remember when they would open the lake yearly. We would bag out on flathead to the point the freezer was full. But the water was beautiful we would swim all day. Ive heard in recent years its got bad without the council opening the lake. Build a break wall, might cost the hip pocket now but in the long run will save and make money by not having to keep dredging the lake and bringing tourism to the area.

      @@phillipfoster7849 swan bay near queenscliff in vic has lots of shallows around it used to pull lots of flathead out when I was a kid in the 80’s also the water around portarlington is also good for a flick in the shallows

    They need to get rid of the small bridge on that side road and put in a long bridge. Tear out the wall that the road uses so that when it’s open it can clean out properly and stay open longer. But for now it would be nice if they opened it to save the fish that are there from dying. A break wall would be the ultimate problem solver.

    • @TheFishingcartel
      @TheFishingcartel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      aww okay interesting i wounder what there reasoning is for not opening it. would be awesome if they put in a breakwall tho

    • @chopppacalamari
      @chopppacalamari 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Fishing cartel yeah opening it now would just drag more sand in. We need big rains.

    • @TheFishingcartel
      @TheFishingcartel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww okay so we need loads of rain before they consider something

      The Fishing cartel yeah the council only thinks Money. They don’t care about the fish. Or the lake. Or as they have shown, the tourism. It costs money to open the lake. So they won’t open it until they are at risk of being sued by people who’s houses are flooding because of too much water in the lake. Then they don’t open it for Xmas so the tourists have to swim in the brown yuk and say let’s go somewhere else next year. It only makes sense if they are money driven. No foresight.
