    QOTD: ⚡ It's been a while since I've seen a wallet that went the distance to design a wallet based on how people really interact with their wallet. What do you think?

    This wallet is magnificent! Picked up one from Sajid in Singapore a few months ago. Firstly, he is a quality human being and you can tell how much he cares about his products once you meet him. The usability of this wallet is perhaps the best I have experienced. I place my most used CC on the outside of the flap after it is closed and it works perfectly as a quick access card slot. I carry 7 cards as a general rule, but as mentioned there is an illusion that when you put extra cards or cash in the wallet, it does not seem to get thicker. Also great to only have to fold cash in half, not thirds or quarters, which I prefer not to do. Anyone thinking about this wallet...you will not go wrong!

    Very nice! I've had my eye on the Tauruscamp wallet for a little while now. Very interested in that design. Currently EDC the Gun Deck wallet from Open Sea Leather and now have an olive green Johnny Wallet on the way... thanks to their recent online promotion. But nevertheless... that Tauruscamp still looks great!

    I have a grain wallet with coins and the banknotes are not put like this but in length because the 500€ banknote is 16cm and folded in half is 8cm and wide is 8.2cm and with the unfolded side out to take just a banknote at a time even if it all together!
    And this material is buttero!

    I bought this one after I watched your video, and is my first minimalist wallet, but I do not like it and decided to use this to store cards which I do not need to bring out, I bought the base wallet which suits my needs but after using the base wallet for a few months I found that retrieving the dollar notes is very inconvenient luckily I watch your Exentri review which I love the feature immediately and most importantly the Exentri has a bill fold pocket.

    Most excellent! That asymmetrical cut on the flap is a genius bit of engineering and alleviates my concern about it being fidgety in actual use. Hey Mark, thanks for the video. I would be interested to see you do a side by side with this wallet, the Houbei and a Wingback. Personally, I find having to fiddle with a flap a little annoying, and why even have a flap at all when you cash slot is in theory open to the breeze? I also would have cut the card notches in the front rather than the back because again, it seems to me the flap would interfere with using your thumb to pull out a card for tapping etc... Overall though it is a quality wallet, love the leather an the slot for a key is genius.

    Let’s face it-a wallet is an accessory (like a watch) that helps define whatever image you want to project. Outside of the clothing you wear, your wallet projects who you are to others. Bull? Tell Harley Davidson who still has a full accessory line that is sold to people who think a bike is something with pedals. This wallet looks sharp, concise, compact and has it’s act together. Access to its contents requires precision and some thought-it carries your cards and cash smartly. The Grain wallet works with your suit to your Levi’s and unlike your chained Harley wallet, doesn’t get tangled-up with your briefcase. Simply versatile.

    Love leather wallets, especially the ingenuity of single-piece wraps. A couple nitpicks. Looks to me the innermost thumb notch could be a little deeper cut, but still maintain the offset with the other. The thinner leather and type appear stiff. Not a real big fan of leather you can “hear”. Regardless, thanks for reviewing this one. It would be in my rotation...if I owned one.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike, I'm carrying this wallet now and I would agree on the thumb notch, they could be deeper and not hurt anything. The leather is a low weight (thinner) leather, but it is a bit stiffer than you'd expect, but it doesn't affect usability and does keep its shape and that's turned out to be important with the flap.

      I just finished up a 3 week carry test with this wallet and that's one of my dislikes. The thumb and finger notched need to be bigger and deeper, you still end up digging a bit to get to those cards. The carry test video will be out in a few weeks.

      @@walletopia yea I see that as an issue about having to put in the effort to dig cards out. A minimal wallet in my opinion isn’t only minimal but being able to access cards without any hitches especially the card you use a lot. I don’t like having to open a flap to access my card I use daily. I don’t mind having to use a flap to access cards I don’t use much.
      The wallet I’m leaning towards is the Open Sea Top Sider Quick Draw. BUT I don’t like how the quick access slot exposes too much of the card. All I need is a enough exposure to get the card out of the quick access slot.

    • @kocho5612

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're both wrap wallets, but then they diverge. The Grain Wallet really makes accommodations for cash, only needing to be folded once and you can carry a number of them, the Port not so much. Once you get into Cards, they're very much the same, but the Port carries and presents cards better IMHO. If size is a consideration then the Port is a better choice and I personally like the leather on the Port better too.

      Looks awful according to you... most people appreciate new and innovative designs, even if it's a new take on the classic bifold. I have the base coin version and it suits me just fine.

      I design and make my own wallets as a hobby and I think you asked a perfectly fair question.
      The disadvantage of a bifold is that once folded, you have at least 4 layers of leather, the obvious stress points in the middle and if the wallet is made from thin leather, the edges can be a problem as well over time.
      With this design, you can minimize at least one layer at the cost of convenience but with longer life. It really comes down to how you use your wallet and how you carry it.
