Yes there is significant inequity where the distribution of wealth and compensation for labor are concerned in Jamaica but I do believe that a lot of money is wasted paying persons who aren't deserving of those wages or compensating positions which arent relevant. U mentioned how different the approach to work is here in America and how the general pace also differs. That's so true. One reason for that is the fact is that people know they can't just slack off on the job and still expect to be compensated like others who take work more seriously or even remain in that posotion. U cant just decide to come to work an hour late everyday or call out every other few days as ur wages are specifically monitored and calculated here in the states based on ur presence at work versus in Jamaica where u can call out any number of day or show up late and still get paid ur full wages at the end of the month- especially when working in the public sector- as most workplaces havent a very keen monitoring system set in place. Persons up and leave work in Jamaica for hours taking care of their personal business negatively influencing the workflow and there is little to no accountability. U cant try that here as the moment u leave the compound u have to badge out and once u get back u have to badge in again or u will be considered absent. Yes the liberties we enjoy in Jamaica are good but life isnt always about what's pleasing to us. As the saying goes "u want good; u nose affi run!" I dont think the more stringent expectations here in the states are at all an injustice. I believe that if we decide to accept a job we ought to put in 100 percent while at work as that contributes to the overall efficiency, productivity and eventual sustained growth of the revenue pool for that business- the very same revenue pool from which we will be getting compensated. A lot of positions in Jamaica need to be made redundant and that money being paid out reallocated to others who are more serious aboht work or to other areas for which greater compensation is needed. Yes we aren't to be treated unjustly being overburdened on the job but should we consider it justice to not be putting in the relevant labour while expecting full compensation?

Excellent video. Thank you. You appear to be an excellent nurse. Keep up the good work. Jamaica tend sto lose the good professionals to other countries. I have witnessed some very low quality of care when I take family members to hospitals in Jamaica, many of the doctors and nurses act as if they don’t care and they are the center of the universe (unbelievable) In many countries, staff is held more accountable for the quality of patient care.
I thank you so much for enlightening those back home. I too work in the USA, I never have 5 or 6 patients, it’s always have from 7-10 patients and I’m responsible for that district, it’s very hard. Yes you can always apply for another department, but it’s not that easy. Talk about money, my rent is $2400+light bill, phone, national grid that’s gas bill. Food not in it etc… not discouraging anyone but be prepared.
We all say it. We are grateful for the opportunity but the quality of life was honesty much better in Jamaica. My mental health is super important so i finally left the hospital. A whole lot more to say but thats for another day. Stay strong bro.
You are telling the truth. That is what the health system lacks here team nursing. I walk away from bedside nursing after 7 years in the hospital and went to education and supervision. No more bedside for me,it is truly rough.
Very fast paced and you have to be organized. Experienced Nurse here in Florida, but I was educated and trained here. Good that you decide to specialize. Things has def changed since COVID, but you will make it if you have good strategy. The best profession in the world as you will always have a job.
My lady is a nurse and she works in the ICU. She is assigned to not more then two patients. She i a very good nurse and she do tutoring on the side.. What i noticed is that she always busy and i have to tell her she must take her break and eat because the same bed she is looking at is the same bed she may end up in . Yes you are right sir . And they cut back on CNA too .
Cost of living is high in America. There is no comparison where cost of living is concerned. Yuh work fi every penny yuh get in America. As a medsurg nurse it is very rough. At the end of 12 hour shift is as if someone gave me a good flogging. Body tired. Non stop work from yuh clock in. Not even bathroom break yuh can't get sometimes.
I got sick on the job by not going to the bathroom when I needed to. I was a new nurse trying to keep up with twenty patients. Can you imagine? Twenty? I was hospitalized on the other unit on my floor because it was new years even and I could not go to another hospital at the time. I was out for more than a week. I took the ICU course they were offering and was off that floor in less than three months. Never looked back. 😊
Everything you said here is 100% true! I'll also add that we are also working holidays and weekends and odd hours and bereavement time and vacation time aren't anywhere what we deserve for all the work and massive workload we put in. Nurses are getting burnt out earlier now than before Covid. Shorter staffed with a heavier workload, same pay and not much support. It's crazy for bedside Nurses.
Good day am sorry to intrude on your page.Well I wish you all d best in what you doing. Just that NURSING was my goal, growing up but am slowly getting there. So my encouragement to you is hang in there, fight for strength coz God have your back n He is still in control . ONE LOVE BRO. keep PRAYING God is good ❤❤❤❤
Rough Baadddd!! Listening to you I'm retraumatize!!! I don't know how I did it for 9years...Alarm Fatigue would kill me!! For the last 3 years I have been a procedure nurse, I could never see myself doing bedside ever again!!
You are speaking the truth. .the pace is very fast, If the patient asks for a bed pan, you can't say I will send you the attendant like I experienced in Jamaica.
Sounds like you worked in ER. I worked in a big hospital for 32 years, it was not easy but the love and bond with your peers and some patients I would not changed it. Now love and compassion is the key! 🙌🏿💚
I have to subscribe to your channel because you are speaking facts. I am living in the US as well, and all that you are saying is real. I am not in the health sector but in a different field, and yes, i am making way more than what I was making in Jamaica in a month. Additionally, cost of living will take all that you worked for. No Joke!!!
More 💪🙌to you take care while you're striving thanks for opening the eyes of those with the misconception of coming to and working in America no road is paved here in gold.Respect
Respect my Bro. Thank you for sharing that it is not all littered with gold in the US 🇺🇸. It’s the same in the Uk 🇬🇧. Wages might be good, but the cost of living ain’t no joke 🤷🏿♂️….. All the best 👍🏿
I wish all the nurses in Jamaica are watching and listening. And I wish some of them to get the opportunity to witness and experience all that you have Experience...
Thanks bruh for your insight /your lived experience Health care system worldwide is a Business If you don’t have a passion can get caught up.. I have been a nurse for over 30 yrs What really keeps me going is my passion to help others who are going thru health challenges . Thanks for sharing real!!
I’m really glad you can see the difference clearly you have to work your ass off here to pay taxes and take care of everything yourself and you don’t have nothing left for yourself. Most of the time you need another person with you to share your bills. Brother you speak the truth.
Sometimes money is not all, having peace of mind and lots of sunshine. But its all a lie leaving your home land, if you are not properly educated, to take care of all you worldly needs. ( it can be very stressful, and over loaded with responsibilities ).
ALL WELL TRAINED NURSES FROM JAMAICA WHO WANT TO RUN TO WORK IN UNCLE SAM LAND, JUST NOW THAT YOU ARE INDIRECTLY AND ALSO DIRECTLY FORCED TO DUMB DOWN, AND WORSE, TO PEEPLE WHO WORSE DAN DUNCE BAT!!! IT NUH NORMAL. IF YOU ARE NOT GROUNDED, YOUR PROFESSIONALISM WILL BE ERODED. I SEE JAMAICAN NURSES START DRESSING LIKE MADDA BUNGLE AND SWEAR DIRTY SHOES. IT NUH NORMAL
Real experience, real talk I am not in health care and I have never traveled to work overseas but you have given a good explaining of what happening so it give an idea that for those who’s want to travel overseas get a good synopsis of what to expect!!,big up yuh 👍
You’re correct! It’s important to find your comfort zone and stick with it. I worked dialysis and thought it was too slow and got tired of doing the same thing.
That bro. is spot on. Am a RN and I worked in the ICU for over 20 years and was a nurse for over 40 years and and am telling you I earned every penny I made. Not being able to eat your lunch even finding time to go to the bathroom was tough. Nursing is no joke when you work those high speciality units like the OR, ER and critical care units. Am retired now and so glad I could come out. I had good and bad times but I loved helping people thats the reason I stayed so long. A lot of nurses leave because the work is so hard its not for the weak..😊
I hear you! Worked OB for 20 yrs. Many days lunch break was non-existent and I did 12 hour shifts. Went to the clinic after grad school pursuing the FNP track. This was a killer. Up to 20 pts with 15-20 minutes to see each one. It was a huge learning curve. Thank God I am retired 🙏. Nursing in the US is not a bed of roses. It wasn't for me. Working on the OB unit there was a feeling of belonging, but the pressure and stress was still there. I missed the feeling of belonging when I left for the clinic.
Hallelujah my brother thank u for this video u r absolutely right I highly agree Jesus mi God a true I have experienced all that u spoke about I truly enjoy watching and listening to u . My Brother I am so Proud of u it's so refreshing to see my Jamaican brother in such a Positive light keep shining thank u so much.🙏🙏🙏🙏
I am, certainly not a nurse, i am an educator. I enjoyed watching your video. I learned a lot. I have never been one to look for greener pastures. I am very realistic, a dollar is a dollar wherever you are, so spend it wisely, and, its not what you earned, but what you saved. Continue to do your best. God bless you. Some persons are certainly in the wrong field. Work ethics are so important. Selflessness is also key in every department. ❤
Thanks for informing those in Jamaica, life abroad in America is no walk in the park. YES you work HARD for the mon$y. Yet family and friends bleed you because they think life is easy. I enjoy nursing, your kidneys can fail because bathroom breaks are a luxury. Eating your lunch 😳😳😳There are times when you return home with your lunch untouched. Most of my nursing experiences you were entitled to an hour lunch break. Glad you’ve adjusted and found your sweet spot.
Great points you made. I’m not a nurse but I can definitely agree especially with working here. I consider myself fortunate because I’m educated and I make a great income but the work life balance is crazy. I’ve actually worked with people who worked until the ambulance came and got them. I can’t wait to get back home to enjoy life again. 🇯🇲
You spoke with such clarity. I’ve never wanted to live or work in America - but generally, people believe if you’re overseas, you’re earning bags of money. It’s not realised that costs of living can swallow up wages/salaries. Glad you’re enjoying your work and being grateful is a wonderful segment of one’s character. Blessings.
You have to plan your career in nursing. In your 20’sand early 30 use your body, Then plan your transition to use your mind. Never stay at the same place for a long time so that you can be paid what you are worth for your experience and education. Nursing values experience over education in many areas. You can get to the point where you are making excellent money. Do your research.
People are saying the grass is not greener.. negative! It’s very much greener! Nursing is a very wide profession with countless specialities.. I’ve nursed in Jamaica, England and now I’m in the US! So I have feet to stand on and compare! I’ve never worked over half a million dollars in three days until I came here.. the way u work and how hard u work has way too many factors for one to just be generalising! Your city/state but most importantly your speciality will determine your pace and work load! I cannot relate to breaking no back because my specialty is not about that.. everything here is dependent on a factor! Come and have ur own experience!
You’re so right 100000% I’m a CNA and had to run away my feet hurt until they numb and me fat so the running around all day nonstop 12 hours just like you said it’s not bed of rose
Yes, it’s very true! I was a CNA for many years! So I understand what you talking about! Very different from Jamaica! Life, and job are totally different!!
Very good video u are a very smart and patient man thank u for telling us the difference between the two countries im glad u found something u liked in the nursing field god bless you

In every country a dollar is a dollar. Prices differs. We here in America working paycheck to paycheck. We have to work second jobs to survive our living conditions.
Boy I tell you the struggle is real, them nursing home ain’t joke either trust me,I can testify to what you are sayin..God will am going for something else and get out of this field stressing too much confusion 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Facts. I think the work load is a bit liter in unionized states like NY and as u mention, there are multiple disciplines to choose from. Glad u found a liter workload
Well thank you for being so transparent...it is rough..I've been in nursing for 18 years...trust me it hasn't changed and I grew up here. I've been in the critical care area mostly & it is rough. But I can say you have to find your niche and be comfortable. The more you make the more you're taxed. But there's alot of avenues you can experience & take advantage of that.
Facts! The compensation is better, but the grass is definitely not greener. Culture shock! lots of racism, lack of community, lack of support, slavery mentality with superiors because you are a minority (black and an immigrant). The healthcare system is a BUSINESS, you have to protect your License at all cost. Your value and worth in nursing in the US is far more when you have experience and when you pursue graduate and post grad degrees here such as a MSN, DNP, PhD. It's also much easier to move up the ladder as an RN with specialities. Kudos to you. Definitely look into becoming certified as a Dialysis nurse, if you aren't already Derron. I definitely left the bedside after a few years here! It's slavery and got burned out! Now I'm a Clinical Professor, Simulation expert and Certified Nurse Educator, the pay is far more than the bedside with little to no stress! Always let your degree work for you. Options are here!
I have always said that we should work in America in the day and go home at night. This mean that it is the only way our money might make sense. A dollar is a dollar where ever you are, one cannot compare the money. When you work here you work in the true sense of thee word. I see some work attitude in Jamaica among nurses as well as in other profession, in this country they would be fired. Everything you said my brother is the truth.
Where you are sounds like better accountability and service for patients and family. I wish Jamaica did it like this!! Team nursing means ppl hide, lazy & cause "slip" responsibility.
My husband came up in january abd started the hha, i can see its taking a toll on him, the medical field is not fir everyone, i will contiue to pray for him, thanks for the video, i can try and put myself in his shoes, as someone born in America, this transition must be rough

I have witnessed some very low quality of care when I take family members to hospitals in Jamaica, many of the doctors and nurses act as if they don’t care and they are the center of the universe (unbelievable) In many countries, staff is held more accountable for the quality of patient care.
Yes he was😅
As a fellow male nurse, I appreciate you talking on this. Much respect
NYC 😅 they national grid bill change , can fare or MTA train and bus pass. Health insurance, life insurance I mean the list goes on.
We all say it. We are grateful for the opportunity but the quality of life was honesty much better in Jamaica. My mental health is super important so i finally left the hospital. A whole lot more to say but thats for another day. Stay strong bro.
RN here, I have story too …I had some rough days
You are telling the truth. That is what the health system lacks here team nursing. I walk away from bedside nursing after 7 years in the hospital and went to education and supervision. No more bedside for me,it is truly rough.
Very fast paced and you have to be organized. Experienced Nurse here in Florida, but I was educated and trained here. Good that you decide to specialize. Things has def changed since COVID, but you will make it if you have good strategy. The best profession in the world as you will always have a job.
He told no lies. When i was in Jamaica i left work and went to the beach after work. Now when Saturday morning come i dont even want to leave my yard.
so true jamaica is the best we may not be rich
Burn out is real, you lucky if you can get out a bed.
I agree with u all the way i am a nurse here myself and its hard true
Wow… Burnout!
Tell dem !
I was scrolling and saw this video I stopped by to listen and it informative, mark you I’m not a nurse lol God bless you and your family sir 🙏🙏❤️
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching !
Happy I scrolled and stopped to watch your video
Same !
God Bless you for having her best interest at heart. You are correct & I pray she takes yur advice.
Talk truth !!
Absolutely true!
Very nice and well put together….good listen
Thanks for listening !
You spoke up more ways that it is better in Jamaica so it's a no-brainer I would move back there
Everything you said here is 100% true!
@@mercyh193 thanks for sharing !! 👍🏾
Good day am sorry to intrude on your page.Well I wish you all d best in what you doing. Just that NURSING was my goal, growing up but am slowly getting there. Who feels it knows it, never easy been a NURSE, whether in JAMAICA or outside. Dont feel bad about it, yes its hard sometimes, but look back where God brought you from .Hello God have you there for a purpose, little that you do while God is in it its good.

Well said, nursing has so many opportunities you just have to find your comfort level.
You are speaking the truth. .the pace is very fast, If the patient asks for a bed pan, you can't say I will send you the attendant like I experienced in Jamaica.
Exactly !
Although I'm not a nurse, I find your video very intriguing. I know a few nurses who also made the switch
@@sAb316_ thanks for watching! Appreciate it !
When Derron speaks, we have to listen!
😂
Thanks bruh for your insight /your lived experience
Health care system worldwide is a Business
If you don’t have a passion can get caught up..
I have been a nurse for over 30 yrs
What really keeps me going is my passion to help others who are going thru
health challenges .
Thanks for sharing real!!
Having a passion for it definitely makes the difference!!
Welcome my Jamaican bro. Thnxs for the video.
Thanks for watching!
I’m really glad you can see the difference clearly you have to work your ass off here to pay taxes and take care of everything yourself and you don’t have nothing left for yourself. Most of the time you need another person with you to share your bills. Brother you speak the truth.
Sometimes money is not all,
having peace of mind and lots of sunshine. But its all a lie leaving your home land, if you are not
properly educated, to take care of all you worldly needs.
Thanks for keeping it real. Very very much appreciate it.
Real experience, real talk I am not in health care and I have never traveled to work overseas but you have given a good explaining of what happening so it give an idea that for those who’s want to travel overseas get a good synopsis of what to expect!!,big up yuh 👍
Real talk my youth jah bless the I cool more strength
You’re correct! It’s important to find your comfort zone and stick with it. I worked dialysis and thought it was too slow and got tired of doing the same thing.
Yes each person must find their own path !
We all experience it my brother working in the USA is not easy. Perfectly said.
That bro.
My Brother I am so Proud of u it's so refreshing to see my Jamaican brother in such a Positive light keep shining thank u so much.🙏🙏🙏🙏
Bless you and thanks for watching !
30 minutes lunch and two 15 minutes break
Thanks for a balanced perspective on living overseas. You are very good at explaining...you would be an excellent teacher
This is reality, and I like how my brother just break it down simple.
You would be a good lecturer. Well said and much blessings to you young man. 🙏🏾
I love your honesty, spoke truth about the constant on the go flow of the job. Happy you found a place in the profession that suits you.
You are definitely telling the truth 💯✅
On point. Everything he said is true. That's why I work for the VA where there are much more resources
Very good advice
Take it easy and don’t stress yourself !
Great insight and Thankyou for being a nurse, I have tremendous respect for what you do!🙏🏾💪🏿
I appreciate that !
Thanks for speaking on this Derron. There's so much misconceptions in working in the USA. God's blessings be with yuou always ❤❤❤
Yes, it’s very true! I was a CNA for many years! So I understand what you talking about! Very different from Jamaica! Life, and job are totally different!!

Real chat bro! As for compensation, the retirement package is way better than anything that you would have received in Jamaica.
True !
Talk truth. I love how balanced you are in your experience. You are so right about working much harder here than in Jamaica.
Hey
This is the reality . And ppl love to judge others expecially when persons talk about their reality. Sir you're on point with everything that you spoke about. Migrateing to USA is no joke. Other ppl just talk bunch of lies. The energy in the US is faster that Bolt Ooo. I am encourageing you sir I am applaud you in such a time as this it rough but keep going up ward.

Blessings ! Have to keep going !
In every country a dollar is a dollar. Prices differs. We here in America working paycheck to paycheck. We have to work second jobs to survive our living conditions.
It’s tough !
Boy I tell you the struggle is real, them nursing home ain’t joke either trust me,I can testify to what you are sayin..God will am going for something else and get out of this field stressing too much confusion 🙏🏻🙏🏻
very insightful bro ...Keep doing your best !💯🙏🏿😇🗣👊🏿
Thanks for sharing this hard reality. A dollar is a dollar everywhere. Be prepared, and don't burn your bridges behind you if you have to migrate.
Well said!
Thank you for sharing your experience. As an Healthcare Administrator this is spot on. You do have to find the best position for yourself❤
Great video Derron! Very insightful !

Facts. I think the work load is a bit liter in unionized states like NY and as u mention, there are multiple disciplines to choose from. Glad u found a liter workload
Tell them mi son. I’m glad it’s better for you, which I think always happens. Good luck with everything. Reach for the sky, it waiting. ❤
Thank you for sharing. I was planning to go for the LPN .
Bless up Deron I know I haven’t seen you on Facebook and I’m scrolling through TH-cam and here you are 👍🏽
Glad you found me 😂
Well thank you for being so transparent...it is rough..I've been in nursing for 18 years...trust me it hasn't changed and I grew up here. I've been in the critical care area mostly & it is rough. But I can say you have to find your niche and be comfortable. The more you make the more you're taxed. But there's alot of avenues you can experience & take advantage of that.
I understand and agree with everything you spoke about...cost of living is a big factor...
👍🏾👍🏾
Yes, you will feel nursing in your bones here. Appreciate your transparency. Sub👍🏽
Straight 💯 real talk me bredda.
Thank you for that video , will always listen to your videos. I am proud to be a Jamaican, due to your honesty. God bless you you.
Very informative. Good to do the research and explore the options. That must have been so stressful. 😔
Yes it was! Thanks for watching!
Derron!!! Good to see u. Been so long. Continue doing what ur doing. God is good!
Hey Kerri !! Long long time for real. I hope you are well, and thank you for watching 🙏🏾👍🏾
I totally agree. You took the same path that I chose. I left bedside and went to dialysis, and I never regretted it. Acute dialysis is less stressful.
I always say immigrant nurse have it harder than even the black Americans…..lots of racism…even with patients
Exactly! Work ethic in Jamaica is sick!
Ur sooo true my handsome Jamaican guy u talking about facts love ❤️ that
Where you are sounds like better accountability and service for patients and family.
I'm not commenting on your husband, but you are so right. The medical field is not for everyone.
Apartment rent is now higher, In some gated communities in Portmore two bedrooms going for $80,000.00 per month.
In Kgn, it's over $100,000 per month
Very true son..America is rough..but by the grace of God we make it..not easy..
By His Grace alone !
Yes you are telling the truth about the work. Team up with your peers trust me it help but all the workers are not the same. Do your best move on if it’s too much for you.❤
Thank you for watching !
