I love seeing how many Baba Yaga variations there are depending on where you're from. The house on chicken legs is pretty universal but I'm sure your Russian version is different from my Hungarian one! What's funny is I only ever heard Baba Yaga stories from my Hungarian grandfather (on my maternal side), never from my Russian/now Ukrainian grandmother (on my paternal side). I'll have to look into that more 🤗

i read a book when i was around 12 about a girl that was cursed to live in a house with legs and she had this tea that reversed her age and when someone asked her a question she had no choice but to answer truthfully. i only just now remembered it because of this i don't know if it's related to this or not i can't remember anything else about it. but cool, nice video :) Edit: i looked into it and it is! the book i read is called The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson. it's a good book!

I skipped a few minutes into the video, and let it play on headphones to fall asleep. It sounded so similar to the noise around my house during summer nights that I forgot I was listening to a video, so when the footsteps and laughing came out of nowhere I flipped out

Baba Yaga doesn’t fly on a broom, she flies in this kind of bucket-like thing (stoopa), steering with the broom. Also you can get into her house if you tell it “house house turn your back to the forest and your front to me”. Just from the Russian here, some pointers if you should encounter this in the forest-wait for her to fly off and say the magic words and you can go inside her house and relax. Just be careful to get out before she returns!
Not sure about the whole "relaxing" part. As if I correctly recall my childhood stories, her companion is a Cat "Bayun" the men eater, he is left to guard the house when she leaves ;-)
@@Magister.of.the.pendulum not in all stories. one had these geese that would bring her children to eat. but she can be tricked. I read many stories of heroes having to go in there for some task and emerging victorious
The Dream Stealer by Gregory McGuire was one of my favorite books as a kid. I ended up later buying a copy of my own as well. This reminds me so much of it and it's so awesome. For anyone who hasn't read it and gets the chance to, definitely go for it!

That is a common story in Poland. Most Grandmothers did it to calm more faisty Kids.
