  • There’s only one city in Wisconsin with “dam” in its name: Beaver Dam.
There’s only one city in Wisconsin that makes Philadelphia Cream Cheese, houses the Dodge county Fair and designs water parks: Beaver Dam.
There’s only city that’s home to Wayland academy, BDACT, Palenque’s, the Metz’s and Lois the sewing wizard: You guessed it, Beaver Dam!
Yep. Beaver Dam is truly one of a kind - and it’s a great kind!

Thanks to the entire Around the Corner crew for visiting Wayland. It was great fun to host you on campus. And we hope after seeing the show, many more families will come visit us to learn about our one-of-a-kind campus community that prepares high school students for college and life success.

In 1993 my mother moved my brother and I to Beaver Dam Wisconsin. We lived on the south end of town in a decent place where I had a lot of room to branch out and explore. Evening football games with the neighborhood kids, endless days of exploring through the woods, and sunsets beside the lake.
I started school at South Beaver dam elementary school where the foundation of my life was set. Small class sizes with great teachers like Mrs. Fritz who taught second grade, Mrs. Mueller Who taught fourth grade and the legendary Mrs. Prowlwitz (spelled wrong I’m sure) I found my way just Fine. Middle and high school the same.
In the earlier days my birthday was celebrated at the old skate rink on the outskirts of town. Nothing like mid 90s music, arcade games and the smell of that old nasty pizza at a roller jam! I spent many long summer days on the lower bank of that damn behind the shoe factory. Friday evenings at the old Ponderosa restaurant every week with the family, to the days of hanging out with friends at the herbergers mall. And who could forget walking through the doors of Walmart and hearing “hello and welcome to the Beaver Dam Walmart”
Today, I am 31 and live in Jacksonville, FL. In other words, the polar opposite of Beaver dam Wisconsin. I am a Journeyman licensed electrician and I am bound to this area for work and have started a family here and am happy But it is surely the little things about a small humble town that I miss. Beaver Dam is the kind of town do you want your child to grow up in. I don’t have a bit of doubt in saying I know I would not be who I am as a person today and if I grew up in a large city like Jacksonville. Just as Christmases and holidays have not been the same since I left. There is no spirit down here lol!! I miss small town beaver dam and these days find myself thinking the same thing my mother was back in 1993, Beaver Dam is a great place for my son to grow up.
