A while back I changed the way I think about what I create. Do I like it. That is my only judgement. It’s different in my mind than “is it good?” Saying something is good or bad is comparing it to a standard. There’s no comparison if I ask myself if I like it. If I create something I don’t like, I take it as exploration not a failure.

This brought me real comfort during the lockdown (in Sydney Australia). Both the message, as well as the location (outdoors) and birdsong. It's good to revisit.

Love this! This is so important especially when starting a creative pursuit as your art likely will not stand up to that expectations you have! It’s also interesting as I listen back to old demos I can now appreciate them differently being abstracted from them as an expression of my own self worth 😊😊

Excellent sentiment. With parenting, we go into an interaction knowing what it represents (it's dinnertime, we're getting dressed, we're playing) but not how the interaction will go. There may be pragmatic and stratgeies at work going in (keep them occupied while I do x, kill 10 minutes before y) but those don't persist once the interaction starts, the interaction is compelling intrinsically. Same, i think, with art. You can go in thinking you know what you're doing it for (I'm going to crack this market, equal this hero of mine's achievement, impress my friends) but if the beginning of the act of creation doesn't get rid of those thoughts, the project fails (I've found), because the task isn't intrinsically compelling, it's not a true interaction with the 'child' that is your art, its only your intention to interact.

Thanks as always for the jungle wisdom! Being self critical and keeping the music to myself is all too easy and it's good motivation to push myself to share... You've made it totally clear what I need to do, grow my hair and change my name to Acedog

Love that! Share that magic Acedog 🙏🏻

When I think of the audience last I’m happy to create when someone says I should think of the audience first I loose all
Motivation to create, I feel that says if all in itself 😊

Make your own art like you want. And then just wait who likes it or not. For every artist there is a public, even people who really like it. And the most important public is oneself, do you like it yourself.

This is exactly the topic I've been hurting with, this is great advice but really hard to apply when ones concerned with finances or public opinion

Well, it's a pretty tough dilemma.
On one hand, as an artist, you must have the guts to say "I made a piece of shit" and throw it in the trash, even if it's a huge part of you and years of hard work.
But on the other hand, you need to have even more guts to say "This is a masterpiece. I don't care what people are going to think. I love it and it's going to see the light of day."
In the end of the day we don't have to follow trends, we are the ones who create them.

My arts been keeping me up some nights with its crying, im not going to judge but I can't put up with sleepless nights much longer so something about how I take care of it has to change. Idc If that makes me a terrible parent.

Art is like a child interesting. I remember one gig I kept changing the set list and ultimately it made no difference to the crowd. But do you agree that a set must tell a story to a degree?

    •  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

I would agree with you there - I love to tell stories with my sets. What kind of music do you perform?

You mentioned in a past video about the artwork for a single that shows up for example on Spotify when you are going to post a new song. Do you make the art yourself or have somebody do it for you? If you do it your self, what program do you use to make it?

I don't have any music theory at all, but I play from sound. The moral issue I have is, I at times use splice samples, so I feel like a fraud, I try and use the sample and change the sound of it but I have no idea how to make chords etc. TBF iv only been producing around 8 months but I ultimately want to create from scratch.
