Excellent demo. I own an ER44 and you managed to highlight a remarkable feature of this synth, which is that despite being based on an FM chip it can sound more analog than some true analogs and at the same time being capable to emulate the classic FM character, with a lot also possible in between.
I think it is mostly due to the 2 MN3009 bucket brigade chips (also used on the Elka EK22, Kawai SX210, Juno 6 and 60, etc..); but also I think the implementation with two sets of 4 oscillators within each DCG that can run the same algorithm and can be detuned individually, if I recall correctly, against each other contributes to create a lot of movement and creaminess; equivalent 4OP Yamaha synths, and Yamaha FM synths in general tend to sound a lot more metallic.
Looking forward to get my ER44 out of storage and starting to re-use it.
Well done also on the playing, so refreshing to see someone that can actually play properly rather than pushing buttons.

I have the ER-44. Lots of people could think It Is a limited machine but It looks fabulous, Is bitimbrical and has a very clean, smooth FM personality. I will keep with me forever.

These sounds are so premium, so nostalgic

At first, I thought it was a variant of the analog Poly-800. You know, cheap plastic preset synth, which I really like to have. But in the end digital sounds came through, and I thought it also had wave table oscillators. Then I finally read the video description, and it is indeed an FM synthesizer.

Those 3009 BBD's are really put to work, huh. What a warm and lush sounding FM synth.
Defo sounds cleaner than any other (4-op) FM synth I've heard, but I don't mind that at all even though I usually make grimy industrial patches on my synths haha
It's a different flavour, that definitely works!

'Abas2' sounds very close to YAMAHA DX7 'Bass 1' preset.
Also, 'Stratus', and 'Pasiphaё' remind me of 'Liquid Stack' from the Emulator II. My Favourite sound, by the way 😉

Right x) Actually half of the sounds are copied from DX21 patches!

Sound really good! And pretty different than any other synh. I have one laying somewhere, totally broken. One day I'll find the time to fully recover it.

Lovely demonstration! I just got one, but info online is surprisingly scarce. I can't even find an English manual. Would like to transfer entire banks to a multibank cartridge, but this seems impossible. Only one by one preset.

Mine works sometimes, then shuts off and won’t turn on again. Anyone with the same problem? How did you fix it?

I would start with refurbishing the power supply. Could very well be the capacitors are out of spec.

That, unfortunately, happens with old synths as time goes by and you play them and eventually they'll need mentaince. Also, never turn off your digital synth while saving a patch it can corrupt them.

Does anyone have the user's manual? PDF or else?

It's a 4 operator fm synth with 8 algorithms. I think Operator 1 has feedback.
