I have a little over a year sober. Here’s what I’ve gained… A promotion and raise; My relationship with my husband has never been stronger; I haven’t embarrassed myself and forgot what happened.
Now, things I’ve lost… a whopping 50 lbs! Seriously, there is never a bad day to quit drinking. Good luck to everyone!

The hardest part of being sober is letting your friends and family down to the point where you no longer have their support and you have to go at it on your own

I feel you man it’s dark that’s for sure but keep going stay sober. there’s a price for thing you do and that’s the price of drinking to much all the time . The hardest part is feeling depressed after that and then go have drink to ease the pain that’s the hard part if you can get through it then i am sure people will start to see you have changed and then maybe they will give you support which is no longer needed because you will feel better about self. stay strong 🙏

I find it easier to stay sober without other ppls input or advice. Some old friends and family won't be able to accept the version you become when you've been sober a while, they will still have that image of who u were with alcohol. This is why I say it's easier to do it alone, alot of ppl prefer you to be in the *lost cause* basket and they've dusted their hands off, some will see your progress, be resentful they couldn't do it themselves and and try sabotage your journey. Stay strong. Alcohol killed my dad 5 years ago the day after his 62nd birthday, he not only had liver Chrroissis but he devolped Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome and it was absolutely terrifying to witness. I have severe PTSD, alcohol problems myself and mental illness processing rapidly after dealing with his slow death on my own at only 26, no support for 3 years while he sloely deteriorated because family washed their hands from him, hospital was over hid admission so everyone chucked him in the lost cause basket. But they were there when he died... they were there to get whatever they could from his home. They were there *WHEN IT DID NOT MATTER* thing is my dad raised me on my own, he was the strongest person I knew and I still have nightmares at the image of him dying.

I will never allow that "bottle" neuss around my neck again. Been two weeks sober and I love my old life again. No more hiding empty bottles from my spouse, no more chugging down vodka, because I had limited time to hide it from someone, no more secret trips to the liquor store, adding it to my Gatorade at lunchtime, or to my coffee sometimes in the morning, and my list can go on and on..... no more memory tricks the next day either!! Waking up in the morning and feeling like you were run over by a truck. This is not only mentally but physiologically great being sober all the time. I would never return to those dark days. They weren't dark at first, until I "crossed" that line.. Any alcoholic knows when the line is crossed. Takes time to realize it though.. When you start becoming "pre occupied" with it. it's time to make that change. I went to a baseball game last year, and made sure I took a bunch of mini nips with me, so I could drink them in the bathroom. I stuffed them in my socks, so my friend wouldn't see them. I had to get my buzz on, no matter what it took. I was really, really bad.... Well, enough of me now.. Best of luck to anyone who is struggling with this. Wasn't a struggle at first, but it crept up on me.. We CAN do this, quitting was the best decision ever!!! A sober life, "Is life"... 😊

Completely relatable, especially the pouring it into a Gatorade. Basically any sports drink I'll do that to be low key, constantly tossing bottles everywhere so no one would know, having empty cans everywhere in the back of the car, sneaking drinks anywhere and everywhere possible. I'm just getting on the road to dropping the habit but I've barely gotten any sleep the last few days with tremors/shakes that go up to my head/brain plus the chest discomfort and heart palpitations. Have you ever tried attending al-anon? It can be hit or miss and truly depends on the group, but I guarantee there are al-anon meetings in your city because they're everywhere. You can meet other individuals who identify with and know the struggle that is having a loved one living with alcoholism. A lot of people in your situation really get a lot out of it, especially a sense of community that understands what you're going through.

Not just dangerous. If someone is chemically dependent on alcohol, abrupt discontinuation of drinking can be fatal. The downregulation of GABA receptors over time and the upregulation of NMDA glutamate receptors that happens over time with alcohol dependence creates a dangerous situation. Not having enough GABA receptors causes overactivity in the CNS and can also cause massive seizures that can be fatal. It is true that there have been some promising studies related to specific psychedelic drugs like psilocybin being effective in diminishing alcohol cravings, but for long term alcoholics, detox should happen in a supervised setting like a hospital or rehab facility with an on site Dr. and nurses. I certainly wouldn't recommend taking shrooms during the acute withdrawal phase, but the Post-acute withdrawal symptoms seem to be helped greatly by psilocybin, with reduced or even eliminated cravings being the most widely reported benefit reported by study participants.

You realize how getting the most amount of oxygen to your lungs as possible is a better feeling that will make you feel high without anything except air. Watch this video when ever you feel tempted. Until the drinking gets so bad you lose it all. I got a fright reading this, I'm 39 and a binge drinker - I can go a week or 2 without a drink but when I give in I go all out on one night and get absolutely legless and blackout! I'm an alcoholic and I'm afraid I am going to die from binge drinking l, even tho I don't drink everyday I'm at high risk of a heart attack or just fallin into a coma from binging - I went sober for 1 months th back in march and I had the best time going to the gym an swimming l, just being healthy at the weekends for that month gave me a sense of purpose and loved not being hungover on a sat or sun. I'm going to do that month again and feel like I can do longer 🙏 I pray for people with alcohol addiction its like its normalised in our society today and its taking over younger generations today also, it's a scary thing and I pray for everyone trying to recover here x

I'm 22 and I feel that if continue binging this much I will have a liver problem or something like that. I drink a lot of wine, it's so hard to stop specially when you're depressed like I am. I use it to escape reality. I drink once every week, I start as early as possible. To enjoy the whole day. Then the next day is miserable, I'm so used to hangovers. I like the suffering. I need help! 😢

Having a community of people dedicated to your success is helpful. I am a peer support so anything I can do to help or encourage you I will try.

    • @heatherstone8109

@@isacmelendez990 Hi Isac, I'm sorry, I don't usually comment on videos so I hadn't seen that you replied. And this is a question that is not easily answered. In general, yes you will start feeling better, your brain will come back "on line" you will start to be able to remember things and have a better concentration level. But, for me, just absence of the drug was not the only thing that I needed. To get my brain working again I have done some weird and some normal things. Like meditate, sit in silence and not feel negative emotions towards myself, read an actual physical book, I started learning a Spanish, and (this is kinda weird) but I started learning to write with my non-dominant hand. These types of things help build new pathways in our minds and like jump-start it. I had to engage in positive activities. And they are mind numbing at first. Going to a high school volleyball game and not drinking was absolute hell at the beginning. Really being around anyone that did not understand what I was going thru was hell at the beginning. Outpatient therapy helped. Honestly, mostly, because I knew that I couldn't drink or I would get kicked out of the program. I had to live in a recovery house with 6 other women. And I hated it, but it was the only way that I could stop the behavior. Another really helpful thing is to when you have a bad thought about yourself, stop immediately and focus on something positive. This thing of creating new neural pathways cant be understated in my opinion. One way that I think of it is so I have a certain way that I always used to drive home from work. And one day I had google maps on and it told me to go another way because it was faster. I had been driving this other way for years. And so now I intellectually knew the other way was better, but at first I would just forget to use it. Then when I remembered to use it, my brain had this like negative reaction, although I knew it was better logically. Finally, it got to be to where this new route was second nature but I'm talking like 6 months before this happened. And now I do not think of going that route at all. This is what we have to do with our brains. Just stopping to drink is not enough. You have to do something else. Another thing that has been helping me recently is looking at why I drank, what caused my emotions to be so messed up. You know "normal" or "average" people treat it like a moral failing. But that is not it. I have been researching ACE's (adverse childhood experiences) and understanding that I had 8 of 10. So I experienced a lot of trauma and I could finally forgive myself for not being the person that I had always wished that I was or the person that I had tried so hard to look like I was. Forgiving yourself may be one of the biggest things that gets talked about so little. But it is like how can people expect a house to stand in a storm when it never had a foundation to begin with.
Yes, it took me a long while to smile again. To feel comfortable in my own skin. And it is important to remember that your recovery journey is your own. You can seek guidance, but that does not mean that another person's way is right.
Another thing that has helped me are anti-depressants (because you have messed up your brain's pleasure response so nothing feels good. We programed our brains to get the "feel good" chemicals from outside of our bodies so it no longer produces them), medicines to replace gaba, anti anxiety meds, and for a while I took a medicine that is called Vivitrol which doesn't help with the bad feelings, but it does help with cravings. I didn't want to mention any medicines by name because I am not a doctor or a pharma rep, but this one is very safe, non addictive, and being used for a wide variety of addictive substances.
Having as many different things to help your recovery will help you to have a good outcome. Like make a team of people that help you.
It appears that I am out of space but if you have any specific questions you can email me @ sunshine11404@gmail and I will try to help.
      Best, Heather

@@damien1781 Hi Damien, sorry I don't check my messages much. I would be careful. It is much easier to detox at a hospital with medications that will help prevent complications. I hated the idea of being stigmatized as an alcoholic in the beginning. I was drinking about 3 pints of heavy liquor per day. The first place I went to for help wanted me to go to a detox facility and I refused for about 6 months and things just got worse. I'm not a medical professional, just a person with experience with addiction and as a peer support in a hospital helping people with addiction. My honest advice is to talk to a doctor about what is going on. I know it is scary but doing this alone is hard if not impossible. Many factors would go into whether or not you have a seizure, like age, health, amount and time of drinking. But even if you don't have a seizure you should not try to do this alone.

It's very tricky. I been and on and off this year.
    1 month sober, 1 month drinking, 1 month sober , 1 month drinking .
When i'm on alcoholic mode i drink usually 24 white claws during the day.
The withdrawals suck, and i've always been a shy guy so thats why i mute the shyness with being drunk at work. I'm a salesman also, and I know my clients can smell it off me but dont say anything. In fact when im buzz at work some clients have flirted with me and have invited me to go to the bar after I'm off work.
I don't know its a very tough decision because yes It feels very good , but I need to stop.
Because being sober is ten times better and you have more money to invest or save .

I gave up alcohol for 6 months. Felt great and thought that I’m not a alcoholic. When back to drinking moderately. Ended up drinking every other day for a year. Then I went on a 7 month sobriety. And again started drinking every other day. I keep fooling myself. Denial it’s a terrible human trait. Going to try to get off this roller coaster for good.

Now it's a routine a must for me. I can't go out downtown to do an errand without drinking while walking, then I come back and go for the rest of the day. Sometimes I just pass out on bed without noticing. Now I also got the practice of smoking weed when I get drunk. I get anxious, I want to stop but I can't. The most I've been sober is a week.

My wife was diagnosed with stage 3 liver failure and she started having seizures with her DT's when she cold Turkey-ed her drinking. They put her on 30 MG Valium per-day and she's fine now. The transplant committee says they are OK with Valium but if she takes ONE DRINK she will NEVER get a liver! ASK YOUR DR. FOR VALIUM (30mg PD) if your having uncontrollable withdrawals! You can taper Valium but plan on 2 years as it takes a LONG time to do it without going through hell.

If you are in the trenches and cannot quit, read this…
In 2020 my career was cut short, and the world lost its mind. I had always just had a few drinks here and there… Mostly beer. I became stressed and anxious because of my life situation. I started to notice that the more I drank the easier it was to fall asleep at night and turn my brain off. Little did I know that I was not reaching REM cycle and the sleep was abysmal. I began feeding my habit more and more until I was hiding vodka from my wife and children. As Jordan Peterson perfectly puts it: “ alcohol doesn’t make you forget… It just makes you not care.” And: “abusing alcohol, will always turn you into a liar.” I started making terrible choices on social media in my personal life while I was under the influence, and my family had no clue. I was now making terrible personal choices… And self-medicating even more by drinking every single night. I drank heavily on and off for the last three years. I completely lost my job as a professional drummer and completely ruined my marriage as a result. And last fall, my wife even had to take me to the emergency room for alcohol withdrawals, and that was the first time she found out. I I had to be put on benzodiazepines to help me wade through the worst symptoms in the beginning, and to help me mitigate things like seizures and delirium tremens. I’m absolutely appalled and embarrassed that I let things get so bad… That man doesn’t even seem like the same person anymore. One of the biggest influences in my decision to change was Andrew Huberman’s three hour podcast on how alcohol affects the body… It’s absolutely mind blowing. When I first quit cold turkey, I felt so anxious, and so terrified… It was the worst feeling in the world. If you are a heavy, heavy drinker, alcohol is one of the few substances that can actually risk death if you go cold turkey without it. That should tell you everything you need to know. I fell hard, and I knew the rules of the game… I played and I lost and the consequences are still haunting me to this day.
Despite how dark things got, and how awful the withdraws were… I am a testament to the fact that there is a better life ahead of you. We drink alcohol because we think we are free to make whatever choices we want. But when we drink, we are creating our own slave master. I have tears in my eyes writing this silly TH-cam comment from my iPhone, because there is an intrinsic beauty about life that cannot be appreciated under the influence. And for those of you that are struggling to go a single day or even one hour without a drink… I hear you and I see you. In 2020 they quarantined and closed the gyms but they kept liquor stores open and alcohol got even cheaper. The most free way to live is without alcohol as a master. This is coming from someone who was terrified he would never actually achieve sobriety… I’ve now been sober for five months. I’m now a volunteer fire fighter and hoping to get hired on by a fire station soon. And I am cognizant and awake to enjoy every minute of baseball with my son, video game, that I love, and book that I read. I’m still not sure about my marriage, but for the first time, I’m confident that I can bear the weight of whatever is coming confidently, awake and aware. If I can do it at 39, anyone can. Life is too short to live in the fog. I was in the fog for 3 years straight. This is me leveling with you as an equal. You’ve got this.
For anyone wondering how I mitigated some of the more severe withdrawal symptoms. Here are some suggestions:
    EXERCISE (seriously)
    Vitamin B complex daily
    Fish oil daily (omega 3)
    Vitamin C daily
    Balance your food and diet
Take magnesium before bed (try the calm supplement)
Drink a fuck ton of water
Replace the urge with something else (new skills, reading, exercising, learning - I became a badass chef)
You are loved. Now go tackle that beast head on 💪💪💪💪💪💪

I’m 21. Have about a third litre of vodka a day, unless I’m goingout and I’ll have at least 12 drinks on top of that. I’ve been to detox for a week and failed. I didn’t know what I wanted. Now I’m possibly going to rehab (my choice). I want to live a life without alcohol for breakfast, lunch and dinner. People don’t take me serious when I say “I have an alcohol problem” when I’m 21. They say “don’t we all. We’ve all been there when we’ve had too much” I tried coming off it on my own once and was the worst experience of my life. Genuinely thought it was how I was going to die. I've been cutting down and it's rough not being able to sleep well and wake up with tremors and shakes and heart palpitations, plus it's been a bind in my relationship with my GF bc she's noticed my mood change never wanting to go out or be as adventurous as before. I've told her I need her help bc she's the only one that can calm me down and want to delay that first drink as long as possible or almost not even drink at all.

I'm always in pain and the booze fixes the mental burdens and pain. Last doctor visit I had a while back labs came back fine so I was so confused and just kept on drinking to numb myself. I'm hurting the people I love but I'm in pain. I'm trying to quit, tapering for now.

    • @Ur2ez4me81
      @Ur2ez4me81 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Tristan Louise Contaoi Yes brother. Turn to the lord first & foremost bc this is a spiritual battle. I know everyone’s situation it is different but it was a demon that was passed down from my abusive drunk father too me. My pride blinded me to the fact that I thought I was better than my father & years of heavy drinking I became worse or just as bad as my Father. Denial & deception is one of the tools the enemy uses to trap us. I still remember all of the shame I felt as I poured that last bottle down the drain all the while tears streamed down my face. Knowing the pain I caused others & how things got so bad I pushed my own Wife & kids out of my house away from me... So the first step was to tell myself that I had a major problem & that I was hurting myself & others. The second step was surrendering this addiction to God & allowing him to cut off this demon of addiction. This is the thing that will make you feel sickly during withdrawal & make you feel confused. Yes it physical but make no mistake about it is Satans Demons last desperate attempt to dragging you back into this trap. You will experience some nasty symptoms. Most of mine symptoms involved dry heaving & also vomiting. Shaking & trembling, heart palpitations, severe confusion & hallucinations. One night as I was praying to the lord Satan or one of his demons tried attacking me. I’m not going to describe it all in detail but this hideous face appeared out of the dark. It was attempting to mock me as I prayed & it was trying to make me feel guilty & as I prayed it moved it’s lips along with mine like it was mocking & mimicking me every step of the way. Suddenly the thought popped into my head that it would be best to kill myself than to go on further in this life & that because all of the pain I had caused it would be better if I killed myself that way I wouldn’t be such a burden. I almost broke down while praying but then I felt the urge to use my authority through Christ & rebuke that evil. I told this demon that I am a child of God, how dare you try to tell me to harm myself & I am done with this addiction. I surrendered this addiction with alcohol & I am forgiven for what I have done! That was the last time that I was attacked by the devil & yes going on almost 4 years of being sober I’ve been tempted to drink but I don’t want or need it... I’ve been to parties where you can tell that the people drinking seem to need it just to have a good time which is not true... So having said all that brother the first steps I would take is turning to the lord & admitting to him that you have a major problem. Ask him to forgive you & that you will need protection & strength from him as you journey down this path to recovery. Surrender this addiction to God. The withdrawal symptoms should last for only about 2 - 2.5 weeks & then the symptoms should fade. As far as the heart palpitations have you ever gotten checked by a doctor for that? I too had that as a result of a slight heart murmur when I was like 18 & it ended up correcting itself over the years. As far as my diet I didn’t eat too much during this time period, it was just enough to get by day to day but I did drink lots of water & non caffeinated drinks. You can do this brother... Just remember even though we walk away from the lord, Jesus Christ will never abandon us or give us too much that we can’t handle, even though it feels like it at times, he will never leave us... Anything else I can help you out with let me know...

I've not binged drunk for five weeks almost. I was the same, didn't drink every day but once or twice every other week heavy. It effects your brain and well being, and totally screws up your anxiety. Kick the habit and genuinely your anxiety comes down after a few weeks

It’s day 6 of me being sober after almost a year of me drinking everyday with my SO because it was a really rough year for both of us. Withdrawls fucking suck and make you feel like you’re going crazy and want to die but once you are past that it’s so satisfying

But but I picked it up a little am cutting wayyyy back even on the weekends. But dude, I’m sweating like sooo bad at night and haven’t gotten more than 1 hour of sleep in the past 5 days. Any advice??? Also the bottom of my feet inside the arch keep tingling which is weird

My grandma died from alcohol withdrawal. My mom had a really tough time. After over a decade of drinking I decided to break the cycle. I’ve been sober 8 months now. I’m lucky. I really didn’t have any withdrawal. I had a fast heart rate and sweating for 24 hours. Craving for about 3 days and then I was fine. I won’t ever go back.

I have a very interesting question that I just cannot find the answer to so I figured I’d ask on an MD TH-cam channel lol. I use a hair product that contains cetearyl alcohol as it’s 3rd primary ingredient and I wanted to know if that gets into my system. I always get this tingling feeling on my scalp and feel weird. Feeling like I need to find an alcohol free hair cream. I am a recovering addict and quit drinking 9 months ago, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, love the channel!

I've accepted at this point that very few days ago by without rationalizing drinking in the evening... Every evening... I was an opioid addict turned alcoholic.. addiction is addiction whether legal or otherwise.. I find quitting alcohol more difficult than quitting crack and heroin at the same time
.. btw, I was "clean" from heroin by way of methadone.. then I got off methadone and nosedived into alcoholism because it was easier to remain addicted than to face who I am as a human.. I feel like we should be doing something.. choices are made but consequences happen.

Alcohol withdrawal took away my ability to relax and sleep more than anything as well as palpitations etc. i started Taurine 500 mg to 1000mg at night with 300mg magnesium glycinate and sleep like a baby now. I used to be up til 11 am no sleep freaking out with anxiety snd heightened senses and now i can relax and drift to sleep peacefully.
