The Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that divorced Muslim women in the country have the right to claim maintenance under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), saying that the “secular” provision is applicable to all married women irrespective of their religion.
The decision came in response to a challenge by a Muslim man from Telangana who contested a High Court order to pay Rs 10,000 in interim maintenance to his former wife. Justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih delivered separate but concurrent judgments, affirming the applicability of Section 125 CrPC to all women.

SC should assist the Modi Government to bring in equality in all religions and not appease only Muslims for their votes. I strongly disagree with UCC. Why we should worry about others faith. Peacefuls should be forced to follow Sharia law, both civil and criminal. That's the only way they will realise their great religion.

Why do you let Mr Choudhary spout nonsense. Civil laws have nothing to do with religion. Civil code(laws) concern the relationship between citizens. Religion is the personal connect between the believer and the Almighty. The converted Indian M*sl!m is quite confused because of political !sl@ m. Sharia law is in fact the civil law of the Arabia/ Caliphate. Bharat is a sovereign country with its own Constitution. When the Constitution became valid, all other laws became subordinate.
