I am most certainly dedicating more time outside of my office in front of the very people whose pain I am solving to show them the gains I can create for them. This I will di virtually and F2F. Thanks for a very informative talk.
This is an insightful conversation about starting a business. My main takeaway was the value of customer interactions and how to develop products that they want, need, and desire
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me.
Excellent insights, practical advise and tips about starting, growing and scaling your company by Steve Blank. This video should be "required" watching for anyone considering or currently launching a startup. Steve shares his vast knowledge and sage wisdom for entrepreneurs, especially in regard to product development, listening to customers and critical steps to starting and growing a business. Love his "behind the curtain" expertise & tips on sales, VC secrets, failure and listening to customers by getting outside your building. Bravo!
I've made number of English mistakes, I only do such in typing but not in speaking because some times I forget to type a word or a letter or a verb but I still pronounce it silently.
Theres a question that I've been dying to ask Mr. Blank. If your goal is to get funding from people who are going to eventually replace you with an operating executive once your business is scalable, then what's in it for you to find a feasible business model? If you won't reap the liquidity of your company, then do they give you some kind of severance check? How will you be compensated for your hard work?
@38:48 I'm not sure it has to do with a belief system, it's just that you usually want to give it some time so that you can understand how a change will influence your whole model. That's about it.
Man I love real oldschool nerds. This guy is great! Thanks for the excellent content! Just a heads up, I'm an audio engineer and producer, there is a strange low mid nasally muffled tinge to both speakers that I'm guessing is coming from the lav mics. Might wanna try swapping those out. I don't hear the same issue with the HH wireless in the audience. It's not anything 99.9999% of people would notice, but just a heads up. Thanks again!
The exchange at the end alone is worth the investment of time. You have to align the customer pain point with the pay point - the quicker and more efficiently you discover this the greater the likelihood you can build a sustainable business. My opinion is that VC investment Should be delayed, hopefully permanently, until this alignment of pain and payments is demonstrable.
This Commonwealth Club interview is insightful for those of us with good hearing, but there is no transcript or captioning provided. Approximately 20% of the online market would be grateful for more accessibility. I'd be happy to offer ideas to make that happen. Thank you in advance!
There seems to be something genius in the name Steve... Love the way he teaches, with such enthusiasm and humour and he is so knowledgable and explains his concepts in a very understandable way, great teacher. Would love to have him as a mentor :-)
the guy that asked the question from Cabulus (company name now flywheel) seems to offer a cheaper version of Uber for some reason Uber scaled up faster than flywheel (and they launched after) anybody know why ?
Good advice if you are a start up with financial backing, fact is most start ups are small scale businesses that consist of one maybe two people, who have no money or very little. This is where advice is needed, ok listening, going out to meet the customer is obvious enough, it is getting those contacts that maybe are in another country (not all small start ups aim for their own town), how to find them who to speak too, what advantages do I have, how does business work etc etc, ok sales people understand this but start ups don't they develop a product/idea and have no idea how the game works and no finances to employ someone who does. I would not be surprised if many great ideas are not out there because someone could not go it alone. Yes I have developed a product that is very unique and global potential, have had sound feedback but no understanding of how it all works now? wasting a lot of time looking for advice on youtube and never quite finding it.
Pat Castlearchers Curious about how your product is doing now? Have you considered face to face advice with a organization like SCORE? They are national. How about an Incubator. I've done SCORE twice in the past, and they've been helpful.
Question for everyone - how do you get user feedback (b2c) on a sw product before investing to even build an mvp? I thought about sending an Adobe xd wireframe design out to test a concept and get feedback. To understand if people would pay for it, I thought I'd offer a ~$40 lifetime membership (the service would be about $10-20/mo) once built... how have others done it?
Anyone who has ever tried to launch a startup knows that all great advice goes out the window when practice is in play so out of curiousity, how do you guys apply this type of knowledge to real life situations? Kind of a vague question but hopefully you guys can give me some insight!
It's a good talk, but also a lot of hollywood style exaggeration. "Every 9.5 minutes a VP Sales is being fired in silicon valley" But i have seen dramatising tendency with most American speakers.
I am intersted learning how about to build a great company step by step this difficult and seriously, concentration, and ambitions for studying continue , developing company is sames high risks
dear sometimes I use rude expressions but no longer because you've to know your ex-partner in terms of what it conceder as valuable thing. For example, some do like money and thinks it is life but others thinks time is worth more than money so the underestimate money, and rare characters do appreciate knowledge and overestimates it and if they are so the money ranks always last and time in the middle. It seems to 5 billions people in the world as it unacceptable because naturally all people like money the most. despite of that, time only who can tell whom such people are by encountering the money-test in reality which I believe that no less than 99% percent of world people would fail to do.you've set up an hour discussion about how one could make money, I would say have you seen an employee have discussed how such person became a staff member? no, because all what you've to do is follow the recruitment dept. instruction if you're applicable, for business, all what you've to do is make the scale larger not dept. of a company but a country. public misconception is that business people are smart than other people, no at all some are hard workers, some have particular support in the market, and many have variety of reasons that let them function properly. The most complex question a rare person would ask, how fair and accurate the nation business rules are. Since you've made eight and succeeded I would say the U.S. is business base nation and it do appreciate the value of money more than the other preciouses things that I have stated above. thanks boy.
ONE OF THE BEST ENTREPRENEURIAL DISCUSSIONS I HAVE EVER HEARD......
Amazing talk. Decades of experience packed in a 1 hour long conversation. Thank you Steve Blank!
I am most certainly dedicating more time outside of my office in front of the very people whose pain I am solving to show them the gains I can create for them. This I will di virtually and F2F. Thanks for a very informative talk.

Terrific organization, right in my old office building in San Francisco. They have a GREAT library!
Steve Blank is so engaging and inspiring. Guy on right is so dull and monotone, my brain goes to sleep whenever he speaks.
+Pareto8020 Apple vs Microsoft?
+Pareto8020 He's trying to not interrupt Steve to much, just add a point or two, here and there.
I viewed them as Steve Blank plays Johnny Carson. Dan is asking questions and is the “straight guy” in a comedy routine.
@@WallaceBMcClure That guy on the right was apart of the apple team and also the NEXT team with Steve jobs . But does anyone know his name?
Dan'l Lewin, is horrible and he spoiled the show

+Matthew Pinkney You own part of your company, and you can cash out. There are a few people who managed to stay in power though, like mark zuckerberg
Great advice. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Steve Blank has a unique way of speaking his mind.
Thanks for the insights and summarizing it to what its all about 🙏🏼 Just amazing

Inspiring, focused and rich $$$$ to say the least.
Steve Blank is still the guy
What's the name of the first book he mentioned? Anyone help?
and some times I forget the s letter in plural or I forget the ED in regular form verbs, because I sometimes only remember their old look.
There seems to be something genius in the name Steve... Love the way he teaches, with such enthusiasm and humour and he is so knowledgable and explains his concepts in a very understandable way, great teacher. Would love to have him as a mentor :-)
Exactly, talking in such a passionate way, he must have a very deep understanding on the subject.
Totally worth the investment of my time to watch.

The advice does not become useless, it is your job as the founder to put advice in the proper context IF the advice is applicable in the situation.
what is the problem with the microphones? sounds like they have their mouth full of bread?! otherwise, great talk! :)
No something else is in the mouth.
It's called gum
At least 20% of time talking to customers. Great founders are curious and recognize patterns.
Startup definition... 22:48
Steve always delivers. Even if they are kicks in your behind!
This video is helping me in the building of my start up.!!
Very Good!!

Great talk!
Was hoping Steve would ask the dude to pay for the book there and there.
Re five year plans: Have friend in Russia who shared a saying they had, "Five year plan in four years! Hurry!"
There's another Steve Blank?? Oh, that's hilarious :) I know a Blank drummer up here :)
It's like warren buffet and bill gates had a child lol
By the way, China still has 5 year plans and they inherited it from the USSR...
Great SB! The interviewer doesn't seem quite interested, though
Looks like it was all about the interviewer for the interviewer ... which was as grating to see as Steve was great to watch.
Awesome..........
Wonderful :D
Two men that's be the actor
Look at their faces, the reaction...
You guys are beautiful; gracias!!!
I was just about to say that!
Appreciate the video being uploaded, but it was kind of a slow interview.
