    The more I watch and read about the SL2s the more I think it is a valuable addition to an M shooter’s kit. The pixel shift, the low light capability and IBIS extends the use of M series lenses into new and interesting territory. Thanks Math.

      Fully agree. Since I finally have the SL2-S now and own it, I shoot it more regularly. And the more I shoot it the more I think this might be THE Leica camera everyone should have :)

      Wow Math that’s very high praise for the SL2S, especially coming from you. And here I’m referring to your praise for the SL2S. It’s true that there’s something special about it. I do love mine.

    I've owned the SL2-S since launch. I love it so much! I'm thinking of upgrading to the reporter edition simply because i love the look and why not for my favourite camera! The grip also is very appealing. Luckily Leica resale value is really good!

      Much more convenient here than with other brands where you need extra software. Here you just get the high resolution image directly out of camera.

    Great video..... Just saw Peter McKinnon also picked up this camera and did a review video yesterday... Math your review as always went much further than Peter's review. Bravo! I have the SL 75 APO Summicron as well. I think its awesome! It pairs well with my SL 35mm APO Summicron. I am waiting for the 21mm SL APO Summicron to be released. Then my kit will be complete. I hope Leica comes out with a good ultrawide prime for the SL eventually. Like a 15mm or 16mm. :-)

      Many thanks for your kind words, I would never dare to compare my channel with Peter McKinnon's channel, he is THE influencer in the field and his channel/platform is huge :) As far as I know Leica will come out with a wider Apo-Summicron-SL coming year, let's see and looking forward to it as you do.

    Wonderful video as ever. Would really like to hear what camera one camera and what one lens you would use if you could only have one. I have too many myself, but would probably pick my original SL with the Sigma (gasp!) 45f2.8

      Thanks for the positive feedback. Your question for me is a tough one since I really choose camera and lens w.r.t. what I want to shoot. A lot of people asked me your question in the last few years, maybe I should seriously start to think about it and try to answer the question ;)

    • @mathphotographer

      I would go for the Leica APO-Summicron-SL 28 f/2 ASPH because I love the 28mm Field of View, and being an Apo-Summicron this lens is super sharp! You find it on my channel :)

    Hello ! Thanks for this video. Is it possible to do multishot taking the milkyway for example ? I imagine the sigma 14mm 1,4 l mount with 3200/6400 ISO and 25 seconds exposure ? Or it's usable with a limited shutter speed ? Thanks ! Important question for me because i hesitate between the sl2s and fuji 100s for nightsky photo (100s seems tricky without stacking...)

    I own an SL2-S can I ask how you are getting ISO's of 5000 , 250 and 500 when the intervals are full stops? Is there a setting that increases ISO intervals by 1/3

  • @lovrencg
    @lovrencg ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video and camera SL2s and APO SL 75mm combination.
    I have a question. It is possible to shoot multi-shot images in Drive mode "Interval Shooting." So to have a multi-shot picture every 10s.
    Would need this for time-lapse photos of the rising full moon.
    Best Regards
    Lovrenc

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lovrenc, this unfortunately is not possible with the camera only since in Drive Mode you need to pick either Multishot or Interval Shooting. What I think might nevertheless do the trick for you is to use an external interval shooting device where you can program your interval sequence, connect the remote control to the camera body and then remotely shoot the SL2(-S) in Drive Mode set to Multishot. Let me think about it and come back

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, this would need quite some capacity on the SD-Card you use and the card should also have a very fast transfer rate since there is a lot of data to process.

    • @lovrencg
      @lovrencg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mathphotographer Hi, Thank you. One solution could be with MIOPS but no cable for SL. Leica should remove Multishot and Exposure Bracketing from Drive mode to another menu, combined with Intervals Shooting and Self Time 2s or 12s can be combined. Next fool moon is on 6.1.2023 on 15.49h. I am inviting you to Slovenia for shooting.

    Now that lens is epic like all the other SL lenses, they did a real good job designing and manufacturing those lenses to support the SL range.
    And here we go again with the Megapixel madness.
    Zooming in to a level that has only use on a monitor.
    You know what's much more important, dynamic range.
    Talking to some photographers who shoot models and fashion (e.g. Vogue stuff) and changed to Hasselblads H6 100 MP, from 50 MP , they rather have a 40 MP with a better dynamic range and I totally agree.
    Now for commercial object shooting a 100 MP make find it's use over 50 MP (just for the pixel count) when used for large posters like car commercials.
    Do a search on YT "Diving into Dynamic Range" by Filmmaker IQ (although it is subjected to film making the theory is the same"
    You'll love it.
    Since you like to zoom in, go to Gigapixel with the Dutch nl domain behind it.
    Add wa50 behind it with a forward slash.
    This a Gigapixel shot on the Dam square in Amsterdam during the 50th birthday party of our King Willem Alexander
    The shot was taken with a 150 MP Phase One (a rental cause they rented at a camera shop where a acquaintance of mine worked - who is the Phase One specialist)
    Nice detail, everybody in the shot could identify themselves and got a print.
    Go zoom away and I hope you like it.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • @roscot40
      @roscot40 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's only a handful of fashion photographers who actually shoot Vogue on each continent... Who were you talking to?
      The few I know love their cropped medium format cameras, though one still insists on using an APSC sensor for his work. Go figure.
      Megapixel madness is madness unless you have the glass to resolve it. If say you're printing a fixed piece for sale at a gallery wanting A0 at 600DPI, that's a 5000-600MP image.
      It might be overkill, but those prints look amazing.

    I would like to get your opinion and advice. If you had to choose between the Hasselblad X2D camera and the Leica SL2S, which one would you choose? And which one, in your opinion, is better for night photography and low-light places?
    thank you.

    I purposely bought this SL2-S for shooting Northern Lights. Though I would prefer using a wide angle lens, your comments on this 75 mm have changed my thought a bit. I think your ISO setting at 6400 is right on. I typically do not go above 3200 for my SL2.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Wilfried, on the SL2-S you can easily shoot with ISO 6400 and then correct noise moderately in post processing. This 24MP sensor with back-side illumination is really capable to catch light and process it for a high ISO image.

I know many Swiss aim for perfection, so here are two picky requests, thanks😅

    Find it hard to choose between the 75 and 90

    • @davidkieltyka9
      @davidkieltyka9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I chose the 90mm for the L system since I use 75mm lenses a lot (often paired with a 35mm) on M rangefinder cameras and didn’t want to duplicate. They’re both excellent, so I’d pick the one that fits in best with lenses you already have or gives you something different (field of view, maximum aperture, etc.) to your existing lenses.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think David is right, pick the focal length that best complements your own lens portfolio, that's the way to go. Having said that, if you also wanna use the lens for landscape with some tele compression effect in the image, the 75 has the slightly wider angle and might then be a very good choice.
