Hi all, I've recently been using this little clamp a decent amount off camera, and finally decided I had to restore it! No need to fear, I have plenty of hardware restorations coming up, but it's nice to have something different from time to time! Enjoy!

It is a great color! I doubt it’ll stay looking like this very long though since I plan on putting it to use in future projects. With that said, it would take very little time to re-restore it in the future which is why I went for the circlip rather than riveting the jaw back into place. Thanks a lot for watching!

I liked the different green ... nicely done. I liked how you did fill the imperfections despite using textured paint. Sure you didn't need to but I think it's more professional to do the complete job.

Just a quick tip, cleaning inside diameters like bolt holes can be done very easily if you use gun bore brushes. They can be obtained in diameters from .177 inches up to .775 inches (10 gauge). They are available in bronze, stainless steel and nylon. Brownell's is always your best source for all your gunsmithing needs. (Dental picks, teeny-tiny files, specialty tools, etc.)
Good to know, I’ll have to look into them and test them out! The Dremel does work eventually, but the wire wheel attachments are definitely lacking in shapes and sizes, so I’m always open to trying out something a bit different! Thanks a lot for watching!
Hello again! A fun little project, though I personally really liked the green lacquer, please use that in a future project if possible. Did a bit of digging, that is definitely a hold down clamp for a Landers, Frary & Clark "Universal" brand bread dough mixer, though I can see how it could be mistaken for a jewelers anvil.

I was pretty bummed it didn't match well enough - I think if I'd added a bit more blue to the mix it would have been close enough to use, but I didn't have time to redo it. Very nice find! I've been so busy over the last few weeks that I didn't have any time to research this, but you're absolutely spot on with your research. I had no idea this was going to be as old of a piece as it is! I suspected it wasn't a jeweler's anvil since the top had never been machined down, but it's nice knowing what it is now. Thanks a lot! I ended up using a flat black primer by Rust Oleum, and a Deep Green Metallic "hammered" paint, also by Rust Oleum. It's pretty nice looking paint but honestly really doesn't hold up with extended use I've found. Thank you for watching!

LOL that's not a clamp but a jeweler's anvil. But however you use it, it looks gorgeous with the textured paint. Whatever floats your boat. :) It's very pretty now.

I used a Hammered Spray Paint by Rust-Oleum for this project, but I've had mixed results with their hammered paint in the past. With that said, I'm sure any hammered paint that you find online that is grey will work just fine for you. I know Hammerite offers hammered paint in many colors and it seems to be the most popular brand for this type of paint. Thanks a lot for watching!
It's probably already been said but I dont think this is a clamp. I don' t know what it is but seems like the reverse side goes on top of a table. Looks great though.
Someone mentioned what it was and was a clamp to hold a mixer of some sort to the table. I’ve decided to repurpose it as a small clamp to hold down parts that my larger vise wouldn’t be able to efficiently. So far it’s mostly been used to clamp down my airbrush stand to the table haha. The main products I used were: Evapo-Rust, which was used for rust removal. I used "Aircraft Remover" for the paint stripping - You can get that in either an aerosol can or in a gel form. I used Birchwood Casey Super Blue for bluing the jaw and threads. The paint I used was a Rust Oleum "Hammered" paint. The rest was pretty much just using metal files to smooth the surface, followed by sandpaper to remove the deep grooves made by the files. Thanks a lot for watching!
It’s coming out beautiful but look shouldkind of match function. I know I like a not so smooth surface to twist with. That way my fingers don’t slip off easily if I have oil or other slippery substance on them.
I totally see where you’re coming from there! I plan on using this in future restorations, so we’ll se both how well the paint holds up, and how well it works in its current state. Usually used with a table top meat grinder or an old hand cranked bread mixer I have both here some where

Since the big clampdown I only employ water based paints , they can get hammered on their own time🍻

Who makes the green paint you used? I am restoring a vise and I need paint with that texture, but in grey.
