As a life long organist I’m really looking forward to seeing this instrument put back together and hearing how it sounds in this building. Praying you succeed by Christmas. Blessings, Keith.

As a pianist me too. In my early childhood, I used to kick the organ bellows when my mother played. 🎹

Having been the daughter of an 40+ year organ player... And sometimes playing myself... We don't take our shoes off because we are afraid to scratch the pedals!😂 We take them off because it gives a more tactile feedback and allows for our feet to glide across the pedals instead of modern soles(rubber) causes our feet to stick on the pedals. Also, the width of most shoes is cumbersome and prevents you from playing just one pedal at a time...
My mom would wear ballet slippers or a training ballet slipper instead of going barefoot... But these slippers were super thin and very flexible. She said it was almost like not wearing anything at all.
Also, a really good player can do 4 notes at a time. 6 if you are straddling multiple pedals, 2 side by side with the toes/ball of the foot and an additional pedal with your heel. My mom could make the church vibrate when she played 6 pedals at once. The pastor asked her to 'tone it down a bit' once. 😂

fellow daughter of a organ player for decades - this is 100% true. My mother always played with just pantyhose/knee highs covering her feet. Gave her just the right amount of slip to slide between pedals quickly and have the dexterity of her toes when needed. Organ players are just truly impressive creatures to me. :)

@@williambrown355 with that organ in the middle, the whole building is going to become a musical instrument! One of my first roommates had a Hammond B2 (electric) organ, and he would make the entire small, shanty of a house we lived in vibrate. We also put together more than a few speaker cabinets and glue was essential (along with screws of course) to give them a "solid" sound.

There's our Yannis! Mopping that huge expanse and getting all the traces of residual grouting off is no small task. I'm sure Billy is glad to be shut of the task. The organ is going to be absolutely splendiferous. I am sure of it. The drone shots really show how beautifully the Ozmo oil brought out the grain in the alter space. Thanks to Nick for coming to help out. But I really should say "Thank you, Jenny, Toby, Charlie, Rupert, and Oskar Robin for th loan of him." Especially Jenny, who has a wicked cold and is looking after the animals on her own as well as the boys.

It's all so exciting! I have been an organist and really look forward to hearing this one sing in its new home. Kudos to Nick for his help; I am sure it is a sacrifice to leave his family. Billy, congrats on the floor! Two favorite moments: "I'm just going to quickly mop this [9 miles of] floor." Also when you placed that perfectly cut, oddly shaped corner border piece. Just wow! Michael, Yanis, Ryan, good to see all together again as a team!

I just stumbled on this fantastic channel last week. Billy, I'm really enjoying this convent renovation! An organist, myself, watching you breathe new life into the organ is simply wonderful. It's a shame that all the hard work you put into the altar platform and beautiful tile is now hidden. Crack on, men, since Christmas is only 6 weeks away!

I think this will look great when it is finished. I'm really looking forward to see and hear it. A small thing: Please make sure that there is power at the organ, either USB or outlets. This will make life so much easier later for the player when he can just plug in an extra light for the score or something else that needs power at the driver's seat. Installation will be much easier now when the planking is not done yet.

  • @Cherishedprints-stationery

Actually, you wear special shoes to play the organ. They have a soft thin leather sole to feel the pedals and a heel to help you rock your foot from heel to toe so you can go pedal to pedal or do scales with your feet. Scales with your feet are pretty fun. Holding on to the bench for dear life while trying to go as fast as possible, making a loud racket in a cathedral is allowed because you are practicing. 😆Organ shoes are extremely comfortable, and you never ever wear them outside on pain of death by your organ professor, and it's sacrilege as well.

I am an organist in Salt Lake City Utah. My family lived in London until I was 15 years old. I studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later at Brigham Young University. The bench needs to be able to go much further in so all the sharp/flat pedals and swell pedal can be reached easily. Right now, the bench can’t slide in far enough.

Lovely to hear some of Murray Gold’s score from the Eleventh Doctor’s era. Sets a wonderful mood for returning music to the convent.

I have always played with the bench the other way around. That is so when my feet aren't busy playing, I can rest the heels of my shoes on the railing under the bench. In Canada we are taught to wear shoes when we play. My organ shoes were tap shoes without the taps on them - leather soles and heels too. The wood of any pedal board should be sturdy enough for the organist to wear proper organists' shoes when they play.
My first pair of organ shoes I used for about 25 years. The soles were very nice and pliable by then! 😊

Very exciting. And such a nice crew. Can't wait to hear Michael play.
I listen to a lot of political channels and as you may know the political climate in the US is tenuous at best. So your channel provides a nice, hopeful, peaceful respite from all the noise over hear.
If so inclined please add the people of the Ukraine, the Palestinians and the Israelis to your prayers tonight.

Good job gentlemen. I’m not religious one little bit, but your reconstruction of this ancient church organ makes me very happy - that you’re rebuilding something that would otherwise be lost to history., is a very worthy endeavor. I’m looking forward to hearing it breath life again 🙏

ADVICE: remember… the seat needs to be close enough to reach those sharps & flats easily with your foot. I believe you’ve short shot the stool by several inches. Go back & review a picture before disassembling. I’m 75 & played organ for years. Know nothing of assembly but a lot of comfortable playing position!!
