    Good video, I also was lucky and found a nice Fossil Chronograph watch a Goodwill store and like you I really like the looks of it and wear it quite often.

      Thank-you. You would be amazed where you can find watches. Goodwill is a great place and getting a Fossil Chronograph is awesome. Congratulations!!!!

    I love the analogue digital watch. The early miyota 4800 movements used part of a 2035 quartz movement, which is one of the most reliable movements you can still buy. The digital part was the part that failed. Later movments T2x0 had its own quartz section that fails more than the digital. If only they could have kept the 2035 analogue part with the newer digital section.

    "I wear gloves because I don't know where these watches have been." You said,
    I know where your food has been, places watches have been are the least of your worries I assure you.

    14:05 that watch would look nice on a tan leather strap.

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, but to be honest it would look good on most leather. 😁

    The watch you were thinking about gifting a lady friend. I personally don't think the watch has ever been worn, with the clean applied protective sticky backing you removed. The band is passable but would look better with a lighter colored tan or brown leather. But yes gift it to her and say just what you said to us, you remembered she wheres tiger type print and thought she might like it. Cheers. 😊

    Hilarious in episode one use nitrile gloves to examine the watches in case he catches anything from them as you never know where they have been .....very sensible . Then ........takes gloves off and handles all the watches lol. Couldn’t stop laughing.

    Hey Mark, is that Fossil mechanical or quartz?

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is, although it needs work. The negative contact was broken off.

      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fossil is quartz.

    Is that Fossil watch missing the stem cap?

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't even looked, but that could explain the moisture damage to the movement. I will check when I get back to my shop. Thanks for the suggestion, nice catch! 😀

      Elgin is a place in Scotland, the home of Lord Elgin, who brought the freizes from the Parthenon in Greece back to the UK, where they still are, and are known as the Elgin marbles.
      In every case Elgin was, and still is, pronounced with a hard G.
      The fact that Americans pronounce it with a soft G is neither here nor there.

    • @tonyrome655
      @tonyrome655 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually it does matter that it is pronounced with a soft g because that is the way it is intended to be pronounced. That is the name of the Company, named after Elgin (soft g) Illinois the city were they were made before ownership change and production shifted to China. The fact that Elgin in the UK is pronounced with a hard g is neither here nor there as it has nothing to do with the watch or the city in which it was made.

      @@tonyrome655You are 100 % wrong. The town has everything to do with Scotland. See quote.
      Elgin: - When James Gifford founded an Illinois town in 1835, he named it after his favorite song, "Elgin," a Scottish tune written about a village in the Scottish province of Moray, according to a local historian.
      Try doing some actual research in future.

    • @tonyrome655
      @tonyrome655 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, I’m 100% right. It doesn’t matter what the origin of the name is. I’m from Illinois and it is pronounced the way we speak here in the USA. We booted the Brits out well over two hundred years ago and we can pronounce things the way we want to.

    I love mechanical watches there a work of art anything with a battery is not a watch and is only fit for a garbage bin I like that fossil watch.

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are a work of art, especially if you consider how each part is dependent on each other to perform one task. The Fossil watch needs work and I will be doing an update on the required repairs. Stay tuned!

      @@steadyjumps I am an old retired mechanical engineer I love mechanical watches and I know I could repair them but my old hand's have tremors and my eyesight is not once what it was.😡

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's hard to take! A good friend of mine was an amazing watchmaker that could perform the most delicate tasks, but over the years his eyesight started to go. He went from watches to pocket watches and now to clocks. Being a mechanical engineer you would have made an excellent watchmaker I'm sure.

    China actually also produces good watches by the way, like the mechanical Sea-gull they made for their army ...don't look down on China, they were making top quality porcelain, remember, at the time, the Americans were still running around in bearskins in a Russian forest.

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is very true, I mentioned in one of my earlier videos that it is a shame that they make Rolex counterfeits because the quality of some of these knock offs are quite amazing. If they were to replace all the Rolex logos and put their own company name on the dial, it would be quite the homage.

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed, since a lot of the watches are broken, but you would be surprised at the parts that can be salvaged. As for quality or taste, I guess that is personal. If one can afford Rolex or even a Tag, then looking at fashion watches are junk. Surprisingly I am often shocked at some of the detail that goes into affordable watches. I guess that is what makes the field of horology so interesting. Thanks for your comment.

    You paid to much money

    • @steadyjumps
      @steadyjumps  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One would think so, but I recoup the costs by salvaging parts for custom pieces, third party repairs and of course resale after restoration. However, I definitely get burned from time to time. 😅

      Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. You bring up a good point, I should wear a mask. Honestly it didn't even cross my mind, thank you. My content is real though and I guess it's up to you if you trust it or not. I am not that great of an actor to fake surprise and I have nothing to lose or gain by making these videos.....let's be real! I have 60 followers that I greatly appreciate, but I am nowhere near being a TH-cam star, so why on earth would I fake it? I will keep the mask idea in mind though.
