This video deserves way more viewers, IMO. Clear, engaging, salient points, tight editing, and generally just good info. Thank you for the content!

Thank you for this video. The groundbird bag is unavailable at this time. Ill probably end up with the ruffwear.

Ruff wear came out with an upgraded version that allows you to remove the bags from the harness

GroundBird still isn't taking any new orders... I'm thinking of getting her the ruffwear or kurgo packs

I have the Groundbird gear pack for my dog Mako too..we are training as I see you and Stella are getting ready for the AT. Fits him perfectly and when he wears it he feel like he has a big job to do!!! Still getting all his gear figured out. Keep up the great work out there, hope we meet us somewhere on the trail!

The problem with the groundbird pack is that it's just not as well designed for comfortably carrying weight as the ruffwear. Look at almost any ruffwear pack and you'll notice some huge differences. Almost all of them have a cutout at the shoulder blades and the panniers extend forward and are angled towards the front. This places the weight forward and over the sturdiest part of the dog's back, which is at the shoulders, and allows for freedom of movement. The groundbird pack is way too expensive to get a pack that isn't designed to carry weight in the most effective and comfortable way possible, but that's where a big company wins, they can put money into researching ergonomics of weight bearing and design something superior.

Nice video. I have both the Front Range and the Approach pack and am deciding which to go with. The say the Front Range is a day pack but to be honest it has plenty of room and eliminates that to much room in the pack you talked about .I have been carrying all of my dogs stuff but after our last 100 mile hike on the Long Trail I knew things had to change. Ruffwear does make a pack that you can remove the pack from the harness. I looked into the Groundgear but she is not taking any orders until the end of August and then it takes weeks to be made. I did purchase a fiber bowl from her. I am returning to the LT in September to finish the last 173 miles or so. I will see how the
Ruffwear works out and report back. I think I will use the Front Range. I plan on doing the Colorado Trial next year to maybe I can get that custom pack made it this goes not work out. I did run into a man and his dog that had done 1700 miles with the Approach pack and he said it was very good. I have a lot of high end Zpack gear so I am not afraid to spend the money. I am not sure why Groundbird is not taking orders, maybe business is to good and she can not keep up. Take care

Great video. I can stop searching for a dog pack now. I have decided to go ultra light and just paid $475.00 for my new pack. And my dog is easily worht $280.00
