  • This is a tutorial for pinballx. Tried to make it as brief as possible as I was in a rush to complete the video.

    I can't thank you enough for this. Within seconds of you pointing out thay the settings program was just dumping to an ini file I was able to figure out a resolution issue I was having with the back glass screen.

    Thanks for explaining all of this. I had purchased a new physical system and wanted to learn about the internal workings. Thanks again.

    I grew up with the flipper arcades. So two weeks ago I started into virtual pinball simulation...starting with Visual Pinball X my first time trying a table the ball physics was completely wacky. Concluded it totally sucks ready to uninstall. After several days googling and asking in discord/youtube, someone finally pointed out my xbox controller sitting on my desk was registering nudge inputs! I wish I saw this video from the beginning because you mention that fix and would have saved me days of headaches haha. Great video by the way, looking forward to watching more as I continue down this virtual pinball addiction...

    Thank you, you helped me figure out my problem. I didn't realize you need to manually add all tables in manager.

    Could you share links from Pinball X and the table archives and everything you need to run the tables well? I am building my own virtual Pinball, but I have had severe problems to run very specific tables when it comes to testing software performance, and I can't find solutions in internet forums. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

    9 years later They apparently heard you. now its as easy as having a front end. Start the Editor and it automatically opens the file menu and you start the game by selecting one, then when u quit you go right back into the load game window. Where u just keep picking games to play .... if u want to be in editing mode instead you just close the file window and then use the editor normally

    How did you get different versions of visual pinball to work? Are they in different folders? I set my versions up like you have shown with pinball x pointing at each exe file but pinball x will only load my original visual pinball exe. I am wondering if they need there own visual pinball folder. Thanks for the great video.

      Garry Hammond Thanks for the positive feedback. Sorry there was a delay I was playing in Pinburgh for the last couple of days and just got back.
      So I have one main folder named Visual Pinball and that has all the typical visual pinball folders plus a folder inside for pinmame. This is for my Visual pinball version 9.2.1 (which I treat as my base install).
      I then create separate folders inside of this Visual pinball folder for each other version I want to install. Inside of each of those versions I only duplicate the users folder, Music, VBS, .dll's, and the exe for that version.
      So my structure looks something like this:
      Visual pinball:
      (bunch of folders, pinmame, dlls, exe)
      Visual Pinball 10
      Music
      VBS
      user
      dll's. exe's etc
      Visual pinball V99
      Physmod
      Let me know if this made sense if not I can cut a video soon. Now when you point pinball X to start these various versions you point directly to the EXE of that version. Create a VP99 entry in pinball X, and have it point inside to the exe that is in the visual pinball v99 directory.
      Let me know how it turns out.

    Great tutorial! You ever do that one to set up Pinball FX2? -- and have you run Pinball Arcade on your Pinball X setup?

    • @pincade1609
      @pincade1609  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have pinball fx2 running but I think it looks and plays like shit on my cabinet and is a complete hack to get it running on the frontend. Pinballx has been updated to support an easier installation but I haven't bothered to mess with it since I have constant flipper delay since I'm using a input controller for signals rather then a keyboard like it wants.

    Wondering what nudge kit you have ??? and if your values would be a good place to start to make my own Batch file to launch before. I got mine from Zebboards.

      Standard virtuapin controller... Different boards will require unique settings especially depending on cabinet type and location of board

      +Pincade could I just set up the tables one by one in Visual Pinball and would they carry over to pinball X?

    • @Viktory2k1
      @Viktory2k1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vance Mathison I have the v2 plunger kit and I think yes you can but not that far yet.

    • @pincade1609
      @pincade1609  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely. I test the table with visual pinball directly. When I know I want to add the table to my library then I go to the pinballx application and update the database. Then it will show up on your frontend so you can select it.

    Hi mate
    I have a 3 screen cabinet but I am struggling to add tables - each time I download them I am missing the DMD - is there a site you can recommend for tables and media other than VP ?
    Should the DMD work straight off the VPT download?
    Thanks

    • @pincade1609
      @pincade1609  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tables:
      vpforums.org
      vpinball.com
      vpuniverse.com
      Issues:
      If you are using a third monitor as a dedicated DMD any table will support that as its built into visual pinballs program itself. You may have turned off the option to automatically have the software dmd displayed or you have to go into the script and just look for the line of code to turn it on. Its usually like displaydmd or something in english like that. Then load the table and move it to the third screen and adjust as you like.

    Hi, I watched the video 10 times and the thing I don't get is how to actually add a table, I just tried mystery castle and named if perfectly and doesn't show up, I am missing something here, great video BTW! Thanks! Is there a way to just upload everything in visual pinball?

      I would make sure that you are able to play the table without the frontend first. If that is working outside of pinballx this tutorial shouldve gotten your table running.

    • @Viktory2k1
      @Viktory2k1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pincade This thing just gets worse, last night I recorded all tables(260) and had the pinballx logo in the dmd and all recordings were animated clips, worked great! Today, I turn it on and all messed up so I have no clue as to what happened. My question is, I am now recording the videos again. Where did the pinballx lodo go for the DMD while scrolling? Is there a way to alter the recordings once they are recorded so I don't have to do this again?? This is really taking the fun out of it and I cannot complete my cab until I can get this to work, and I still have the DOF to do!

    Hi Pincade, thanks for the tutorial. Very nice ! I found your video because I was searching PinballX bugs and am curious. I got 99% of this software running I believe correctly. I'm only using Future Pinball for now but a couple curious things are happening. 1: all my dmd's are grey instead of the reddish orange we're all used to. And 2: I noticed the ball is moving in slow motion. not really slow but noticeable enough to make me not want to use this front end. Have you ever read or experienced anything like this ? I brought it up at their forum and they want me to send files but jesus the inductions he gave me are insane. anyway, thanks for your time.
    I'm using Windows 7 ultimate and only running on my PC for now. starting my cab hopefully this month. Thanks again :)

    • @pincade1609
      @pincade1609  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont use future pinball so havent hit this. Do you have enough resources to run both simultaneously? Future pinball is resource intensive and then you have pinballx sitting in the background plus other system related tasks running. That would create slowdown as the system grinds

    • @redpiper1
      @redpiper1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pincade Thanks for the reply. I did find the lag issue and cleaned that up but it's a mystery as to why the DMD is grey. Thanks again

    once again you've made an awesome video to try to help up out with installations and set ups.
    when i try to load my tables up they are not showing up,is their something you think i could have done wrong.i'm running DT and i got 2 b2s tables and they read and shows up but my other tables don't. i'm kinda stuck in that spot. thank you in advance for all you're help and knoledge you share ith us.

      I would advise against running B2S tables as a DT user. However, I wont get too much into that at the moment (ill cut a video next week on b2s to explain it). So if im understanding this correctly you have some tables that show up on the frontend and others that dont, but you have confirmed they all work correctly without the frontend.
      Here are some things to check:
      Did you update the game manager listing so that the name is identical to the .vpt file?
      Are you putting your png image files into the correct directory in the media folder so the frontend sees the files?
      Is your pinballx settings pointing to the correct table file for that version you are setting up for?
      I would recommend watching the video slowly and looking for these parts and verifying that everything is done similar.

      +Pincade thanks for replying back o me, and yes my tables i normally play before i install pinball x will not show up in the tables path, let everything install on default paths. so my tables are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Pinball\Tables. but when i go to game manager they don't show up and they're not showing in my databasses either. just two b2s game files that i have in my files that i don't use. i will go back and double check this info hoping i can find the error.

    Thank you for this 😉👍 i will check the settings in PinballX because VPX not complete Exit by pressing escape. First comes a little choice Window and after that full VPX Window staying open. Could your exit.bat solution kill all Tasks and go Back to PinballX? 🤔 FP Exit normal & go back to PinballX hmm.. and PinballX runs with sound/Video playing in background from the tables... you can choose/start other tables without seeing it 🤪 i have no idea why 🙈

      I would confirm that your VP installation is working properly prior to working on getting the front end configured. WPS.VBS sounds like your missing VBS script files that were required during installation. Core.VPS sounds like your missing a file from the Visual Pinball Application.

    • @RedBoyke.

      +Pincade thank you for your reply. I did follow your other video about virtual pinball but some downloads are missing from the site that you went on. i tried future pinball but the ball just go crazy at times. does the visual pinball ball feel like the pinball FX2?cause that game has some good ball physics. i dont know much about pinball.i usualy dont have this much problem setting up other games.i dont know if windows 10 is an issue too.i 've been looking for a specific table that involes basketball and getting the ball trough the hoop but other then that i dont know the name of it. i feel kinda jalious when i see all those pinball tables on youtube. kinda like a kid that knows that knows that he will never get that present that he wants haha so if i could get it running on my laptop i would already be happy. you have to enjoy the little things first :P

    • @pincade1609
      @pincade1609  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Philippe Dejaegher
      I checked my table directory and confirmed that core.vbs and WBS.vbs are files that are during the install process. I would go to vpforums.org and re-download everything and drop it into the directories again to catch anything you missed. As for a good basketball game that involves a hoop I would suggest NBA fastbreak for visual pinball.

      @RedBoyke. 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pincade ok thank you i will give it another try not that i see the side of that table i think that might be the one. i was typing basketball pinball and it totally gave me differend results then after i typed in the name. thanks alot! i lost alot of pesos on this game haha :P

    • @RedBoyke.
      @RedBoyke. 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Philippe Dejaegher just wanted to add that i got it working. vpforums realy should make like all in 1 installer. and i didnt know that you had to get 2 files to get 1 table working the vpt and the zip rom file. i thougt it was just one file like any other rom i ever download from other emulators lol. now the great challenge await try the other tables :P
