    I wish they'd bring back the element. I have an 06' that still runs great. There needs to be car company that specializes in utilitarian cars like this. There's definitely a market for it.

    • @2bhobbyn
      @2bhobbyn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you def should clean it so it doesn't continue to feed into the cable but the corrosion is cause by gasses leaking from your battery when charging. Both cleaning and pads to prevent further corrosion would be needed.

You really don't need to have a big house with tons of things you just need to be happy personally with what you do have and then not one person will ever be able to bring you down in spirit ever!. I applaud you sir for doing what makes you truly happy and I hope that you really enjoy your journey!. And I thank you for sharing that journey with us all. 🙏🙏🙏

    greetings Nate, Love your videos and the ability to live in such a small space. I have to point out that your CO detector shouldn't be mounted as high as it is,,CO2 is heavier than Air and falls to the floor. If your CO2 detector is above your bed, you will suffocate before the CO2 reaches the alarm. The detector should be mounted at floor level. Do some research and you will find my advice sound. Best wishes .

    • @raysills
      @raysills 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The main danger from CO (carbon monoxide) is that when it's breathed in, it will absorb into blood 270 times faster than O2. It crowds out the vital O2, causing asphyxiation. CO2 (carbon dioxide) is a bit heavier than air, which is mostly N2 and O2. So, I don't think the CO detector placement would be that critical. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations, of course. I have a CO detector that plugs into a 110 volt wall plug.. which is about 2 feet above the floor. And, that's where it's designed to be located.

    • @znovosad555

      dkh1020 CO detectors should normally be mounted mid level in a house. Right under a curling is fine. Putting it lower in a car isn't a bad idea. This was one of our training nights at the firehouse.

      Kube Dog, the difference between African lifestyles and his is choice. He is choosing not to live in excess when he clearly seems to have the resources to do so. Most americans throw away in a day what most in this sub-saharan African life you're talking about use in a month. So I fully agree. It is cool what he is doing.

    I sometimes camped out in my 1999 Chevrolet Blazer! Had a few storage shelves for my clothes, toiletries, etc., mattress pad, pillow and comforter...I would hit up the local Flying J to take a shower (I never stray too far from the city). I’d keep snacks and I had a AC adapter that fit into the cigarette lighter to charge my MacBook...I didn’t have curtains or anything, but my windows were dark enough (not tinted) that you couldn’t really see in there.
    I haven’t had that vehicle for 8 years, as I have a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid now (and have a house now...no more apartment living!), so no more camping!

    Amazing stealth camper! You have done a great job turning this small space into a livable area. You might be able to put 2 or 3 more solar panels on the roof to ramp up your solar power. One of the major auto companies should learn from your ingenuity and build a stealth camper vehicle for consumers.

    The element’s rear and front seats combine to a bed, and still can store stuff under, and it folds against the window when not using, seems more effective to leave the passenger rear seat in place.

    • @billwilliams9897
      @billwilliams9897 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If its just for you, I recommend removing the passenger seat....it opens up a ton of space. and it allows a space to get to the back of the unit. put the foot of the bed where the passenger seat was, now you can go from the bed to being behind the wheel really fast if necessary. And you just gained 4 or 5 feet up by where the head of the bed would have been. You can use that space for a bigger fridge, cassette toilet etc. It also allows you to start the vehicle from laying in bed in case you get a little too cold or hot. That heater set on floorboard setting feels mighty good on some cold feets lmao.

    That is, indeed, impressive! I actually have the exact year, make and model of the Honda Element this guy has. And I can attest they have quit a bit of space in the back. Particularly when the 2 bucket seats are not there. However, I would have never conceived of getting near that much stuff set up in there. This guy is skilled.

      One of, if not the best vehicles! I heard Honda is bringing it back...but it won't be nearly as good.....It's going to be smaller in size and have a smaller engine.

    My wife and I have recently started building camper vans, it's such a great inexpensive way to travel and see places you otherwise would not have. You have done a fine job there in such a tiny space. We want to build another van soon, but this time will a permanent bed , lpg cooker and heater. We do have a toilet and shower in ours which is great. You should think about getting a bigger van, I reckon you could do a cracking job on it and it would be comfier long term.

    This is AMAZING! I'm blown away at how comfortable this looks to be. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I could totally do this in. Well maybe. Behind my back seat is the spare tire, but if I took the back seat out, I could make something work. I just want to get out there and start taking short trips so I get familiar with the lifestyle. I love the unit you and your Grandfather built! I am really excited after seeing this video. Glad you posted it!

      First thought, contain battery in a covered clear plastic bin with leads coming in through holes and gauge mounted on outside.
      I don’t know about battery requirements for venting, or sealed or unsealed, etc. but don’t like all the cables exposed.

    Nate-Nice setup. I have not viewed all vid's of yours but did want to leave a comment if you have not done so yet and you are traveling solo; the passenger seat. You may be able to very easily swap it around 180 degrees so you can use it for seating to the rear rather than only for 'stuff' while driving. Not familiar with your specific vehicle, but, if you move it fully forward, look for access you two mounting bolts for seat-to-track. Same for front. Four is usually the case I have found. you've then got use of that seat while not driving. Move the seat fully forward then (rearward) tilt it back and put your feet up. Easy to swap back. Best of travels.

    I’m a Ford Bronco and Toyota 4x4 guy, but I’ve always found the Honda Element intriguing. I know many Element folks may disagree, but I would like to see one with a modest lift, say maybe a 2.5” ARB lift and a custom winch bumper, along with front and rear Toyota straight axles. That would a very unique bad ass little rig. You might need some engine and transmission mods, but I think with Element’s wheelbase it could hold it’s own on the trail.

    Very cool! Just enough space to do what you need. I like you can be stealth too. This would be best for people who like to do hiking/ backpacking or hanging out on BLM/ National Forest land where the public land can be your living room. It might otherwise be hard to live in here for an extended period of time.
