In my opinion, Continental Drift is the most over-hated film in the franchise. Yes, the plot rehashes The Meltdown, but I really like how we get to see Manny, Sid, and Diego being the main characters again and interacting with each other more, something we haven't seen since the original film. I know Manny can come off as over-protective to Peaches in this film, but it makes sense considering what happened to his previous family during the cave paintings in the first one. Plus, Captain Gutt is a great villain. Can't go wrong with Tyrion Lannister voicing a monkey. I think here would've been a great place to stop as well, as much as I think Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a great ending to the franchise.
I agree. This one is just as good as the third film imo. Plus, we have another Soto-like villain with Cpt. Gutt, which was a breath of fresh air, those types of villains being absent in the last two film.
It was just very different. The pace was changed, they added a song which was not in the previous ones. I think people didn't like that. Oh and I think adding the Sirens was just a bad choice. Suddenly you have these mythological creatures in a series where there was no "magic". They screwed the 5th movie with that even more. I think they just went a little bit too over the top with some stuff.
@@Sway22 I also consider Continental to be the movie where everything started going down, and that ultimately affected the 5th movie. But hey, I still enjoy these movies, even the 5th one, just because it brought back the original movie's soundtrack
"Master Of The Sea" was my favorite villain song at one point. It's still pretty good, and Captain Gutt is still great. Plus, the stuff with Granny is pretty good.
The crazy thing is that just one year later after Josh Gad voiced Louis the Molehog in this film, Josh Gad eventually voices Olaf the Snowman in Disney’s _Frozen._ Literally, I noticed that many of the celebrity actors who were involved in the animated films from either Blue Sky Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, Netflix and/or Illumination they end up appearing in a Disney and/or Pixar animated film just 1-5 or 10-12 years later. Think about it: 1. *Josh Gad* - Ice Age: Continental Drift (Blue Sky Studios); Frozen 1-2 (Disney) 2. *Jemaine Clement* - Rio 1-2 (Blue Sky Studios); Moana (Disney) 3. *Jane Lynch* - Shrek Forever After (DreamWorks Animation) and Rio (Blue Sky Studios); Wreck-It Ralph (Disney) 4. *T.J. Simmons* - MegaMind and Kung Fu Panda 3 (DreamWorks Animation); Zootopia (Disney)
Wowwwwww! I noticed some of these, but not all of them because when I watched the Blue Sky and Dreamworks ones, I was simply too young to know celebrities' voices or remember them, but I've definitely noticed Maya Rudolph being a great mom in "Mitchells vs the Machines" and "Luca," so there's that. I also noticed John Leguizamo in "Encanto" simply because I watched the Ice Age movies so much as a younger kid, and watched "Encanto" as a young adult, so I was old enough to notice he sounded like a lisp-less version of another awkward, well-intended character I already knew and loved. Thank you for putting up this list, I NEVER would've guessed or known about these otherwise!
Thank you so much for this complete list! I know some people think it to be trivial but I just find it really interesting. Everytime I watch any movie, I always check out the cast after. I just love knowing this stuff 😅
I know this movie gets a bad rap but I love the relationship between Manny and Peaches it’s a relationship most girls feel with their dad at some point. I also loved meeting Granny Sloth; granny’s scent killing the fish because she hasn’t bathed in “decades”, best scene of the film.
Fun fact mammoths actually could swim very well, there were some species of mammoths that swam in the ocean onto islands and became dwarf species. The cool part is this happened twice completely separately, once on some islands of the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean, and another on some islands off the coast of California
Louis was such a good friend, stepped up for Peaches when she rlly needed help, saving, & Sid’s family was hilarious in the scene where they’re driving & hit Diego, & Gutt was a good antagonist, amusing, & Sid bonding with the hamsters, all in all not a bad movie
bro diego's love life is all i needed in these movies, my man went through anime level of character development and after overcoming his fears desperately needed some strong lady by his side 💜 great reaction!
This movie is a real guilty pleasure for me; I can't call it good, but I think the creators just threw up their hands and said "Screw it, let's go as crazy as we want with this." Granny's hilarious as this senile grandma, I actually kind of buy Diego and Shira's chemistry, and I strangely enough really like Ellie as a mom
I consider Continental Drift my favorite of the IA franchise. I like how the story focuses on the main three characters (Manny, Sid and Diego), plus Granny (Wanda Sykes was hilarious voicing her btw) on a sea adventure and tangling with fun pirate characters with a catchy song to boot. This movie was made for 3D and I really enjoyed that cinematic experience, it was a blast!
I absolutely loved this movie when I first saw it. It wasn't trying to be serious like the first two, they just went crazy and I had a good time laughing at all the references. I especially loved the entire siren scene bc I'm almost 100% certain that was a reference to the movie "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" by Dreamworks, which was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
I still love how one of the main things I remember about this movie is Nicki voicing one of the mammoths, "she's a mammoth, of course," live rent-free in my mind
I actually still quite enjoyed this movie, it has some good stuff. Plus, I really like Shira. It's nice that Diego found someone to be with. But I think, that for me personally this was the last good Ice Age movie.
This is kinda my second time watching this movie. I don't remember a lot of it except for one part: The sirens. They were scary looking for me when I was just a kid, but today, they look and sound beautiful when their in disguise
What’s really funny is how the squirrels of Scratlantis, being so intelligent, were stupid enough to have an acorn-styled drain plug 😂. That said, it’s not entirely Scrat’s fault for sinking them

Continental drift doesnt happen that fast guys, the earth moves like a reaaaaally slow fluid. But again, this is a film not mmeant to be realistic, so we can enjoy it. tho the whale looks like leviathan melville, a prehistoric toothed whale like the sperm whale. I remember as a kid we had McDonald's stickers for some of the characters there were duplicates of the same characters doing the same pose god that was like 6 7 years ago?
i hate how much ppl try to push this narrative that the Ice Age sequels are all bad & that they should’ve stopped after the first one. the 2nd & 3rd are really good too, possibly better than the first, & the 4th is still a really enjoyable family film you’ll laugh & have fun with… now the 5th one, i feel about that one how i feel about Toy Story 4, is an unnecessary cash grab.
i see why people dont like this movie out of the series but it actually follows through the changing climate tone very well and the family dynamnic. We actually grow up through this movie series if you were a small child since the first one it actually lines up pretty well. I believe there was actually a deleted scene where Louis meets Buk bur i cant remember for sure. I remember Buk does make an appearance in one of the deleted scenes. I really loved your laughter to the silly gags, those gags also make my brother and I laugh to this day. We watch through all these movies each year. The last movie is probably the most far-fetched story wise but the relationship stories are great, like you said. Its not just a movie about animals these are real stories now so I really recommend checking out the last one for that aspect.
OK this is completely random!!! BUT you guys should really watch Independence Day with Stella and Haley!!! Literally the best movie ever!!!! Its got Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, and Randy Quaid in it. Those three together are the best!!!! You guys would love that movie!!!
The realistic details, smooth physics, and vibrant colors of the ice age movies is just such a vibe, it's the main reason why I love this series. It's such a shame that blue sky studios is no more. They were quite unique. Now the sixth ice age looks so bad. I try to pretend it doesn't exist lmao☠
Well the human evolution started from an earthquake. Half the herd of human ancestors were on the side where there were fruit trees and the other half was on a barren side with acces to sweet water and fish.
