Vanessa, do you have a video where you talk about your first few weddings or maybe the first year? Your videos show a commanding presence from you and it’s definitely intimidating as I start out thinking I need to be this perfect! 😅 Love you videos and checking out speed posing now! 👀
Not yet! That would be a good discussion though. I do have to say that part of how I learned to be like this was 1 - working for another Photogrpaher for 5 years and learning from him and 2 - working in a children’s photo studio and getting over my shyness and learning how to get attention ☺️
Nice job. Honestly it made me appreciate my small wedding even more. Can't imagine the planning and headaches into putting a wedding that large together.
You deserve a medal, what a nightmare, I'll tell you what I'd have done differently, get someone else to do it, next time I get asked to shoot a wedding I'll give you a call! 😃 I have a love/hate relationship with flash and I sometimes go to extraordinary lengths to avoid it, even LED work lights haha, light and shadow is a game, and I love it!
@@VanessaJoy haha for sure, anything with groups of people can be, especially when you've just got it all sorted and Dave spots uncle John that he hasn't seen for 20 years and goes running off and the whole group falls apart... No thanks and, you're welcome to it! Lol
Well, at least you picked a really simple and easy wedding group to use for the first example!! Wow, this was amazing to watch, so helpful. This is an example of one of the most daunting challenges I could imagine shooting, and watching you direct everyone is SO helpful. Thank you!
It really isn't a comparison or "vs" of what is better or stylistic differences. In this video its totally situational on a wedding day. A comparison would be flash vs no flash on the same day or at least same conditions. The first part is on a very cloudy day, you could practically shoot in any direction. The second clip from an older video, is on a sunny day with light wispy clouds only. The subjects are back lit (smartly so). You have two options over expose a Stop or so for your subjects and just blow out the background loosing any details from the cherry blossoms......Or use Flash to fill in shadows while recovering some of the background detail.
@@VanessaJoy I did it says the same as the Title...Natural Light vs Flash. Its not a VS video. Its a when to use video with no real explanation to why you used your techniques. But I covered that for you :)
I was flicking through this months PhotoPlus magazine here in the UK, and was surprised to see a 2 page spread on you and your gear. Normally I put it back on the shelf, but I couldn't resist buying it this month 😊
I couldn't mic up and wear a bodycam like you, because not only would I be cringing at myself watching afterwards, but all my snarky muttering and cursing under my breath would be revealed! My career would be over if some divas and princes really knew what I was thinking from behind the lens!
12!!!! (TWELVE!!!!) Bridesmaids!!!! WOW! That's ONE BIG Bridal Party....26 people, just incredible.... what's fun is even if you have a bridal party of 4 or 12, it's the same conversations, giggles, posing fun, lack of attention, positioning... LOL That Guy Walk... OMG LOL, ROFLMAO!!! Everyone turn towards each other and say "hey"... 😆 and they always do.... Gotta Love how the 'masks' will be the dead give away as to the time frame in history/ 😥 so GLAD thats over! SUPER GREAT VIDEO with Very CUTE Shots! Love how your assistant is on it... I haven't had the same one twice, they seem to loose focus fast 😥 TWO things I would have done, that first Large set, get the (your left side) people out from behind the bushes and in the last one move the wood benches out of frame, just so you don't have to in post for some of those shots.
Wow Vanessa! How do you manage the time, or budget the time in terms of how long you need to do, say the bridal party, or all of the pre-ceremony shots and all of the post ceremony photographs when everyone just wants to get the party going? And how do you get them all to co-operate and give you the time you need. You’re very efficient and it doesn’t look like you keep folk waiting around too long.
Helpful video, especially the backlighting situations. It needed some narration so that you could describe your thoughts. I hope that some of the shots you showed us weren't the final edits/crops. As a married person buying these, I wouldn't want a photo with a shrub or bench arm in the shot.
Just curious, was this a moderate to fairly overcast day? Also, and I understand monitor issues, but in the natural light, it looked like some detail was being lost in the upper part of the dress and in the blonde hair, did you have to do a fair bit of recovery in post? Would love to see some of the final edits from the natural light.. Thanks for these videos as they get me thinking and not falling into ruts on my sessions!!!
As someone who does more garden photography than weddings I was looking at the grass and wondering if there was an area without bald patches and an even cut. I did get the mower out before one wedding and cut the grass! 😂
Nice video.. I use Flash, only when I really have to.. otherwise, I shut it off and save the planet.. ;-) OT... I ordered my RF 135mm f1.8 as soon as it became available.. Unlike the last time, when I ordered my R5, I didn't wait a second longer than I needed to when I pre-ordered it (& waited nearly a 1/2 year before getting the R5 delivered), but when I thought I'd be among the first to get the RF-135 delivered, I am still waiting....past the 2nd shipment....etc.....smh.. Is it true that Canon prioritizes who gets pre-ordered new gear, based on their Social Media following..? I hope I get my new lens before the thick of the wedding season begins.. If that is the case, I wish Canon would just tell everyone, so I can expect to get mine after at least 6 months, rather than getting my hopes up..! :-(
Maybe a border collie or an aussie could be helpful on the next shoot? Herding is their speciality after all! 😅 I could never do this - but respect to those who can.

Haha I thought of throwing them all in a book that’s for sure!! Rob keeps telling me to do a podcast
The choreography and placing of that MASSIVE bridal party was absolutely outstanding 🔥🔥🔥
Thx ☺️
I don't think so, there is a shrub cutting into the legs of the people on the left. Not acceptable when you have loads of room outdoors.
Nice job. Honestly it made me appreciate my small wedding even more. Can't imagine the planning and headaches into putting a wedding that large together.
Thank you so much!

I love how you snap a pic of the bride and bridesmaids so quickly! BTW, do you also include individuals w the groom and each of his guys?
Sure do!

Amazing video, may I ask, is there a reason you are not using a hood, especially with that brightness?
Personal preference. I like getting Sunflare and haze in my images occasionally ☺️

As they say: "Learn from the masters!" 👍👍😀😀😀
😊Vanessa...Whats the bar code sticker on your lens for? Recovery for when stolen? Inventory control? Rented lens?
inventory :-)

I usually ask for an hour total of time with the bridal party and bride and groom. I don’t usually get that with things running late tho
Haha and as for ppl listening, I’m not sure why they listen to me 😂
Are you using your 28-70 for these group photos?
heck yeah :-)

Another fantastic video 👌 which size proffoto flash do you use on location outdoors for group photos?
B10 and XL translucent umbrella - link in description ☺️
I know that you love to use the 28 to 70 F2 but with such a large party and being outdoors it looks like you closed the aperture down, why?
Better depth of field
Try getting a group to all stand on the same focal plane, impossible!
I liked getting flashed

VERY overcast day and yes some detail loss still - editing would correct it easily
How many people were thinking move away from that bush

Interesting lesson! You must be a special type of „Kameltreiber“ to move the persons in the right position. Amazing. 😅😅😅😅. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! 😃
Great video!
at 8:41 I don't care for the bush in front of the bridesmaid.
Ok?
Bout time you upload another video. I need more JOYful knowledge. 📷🤓💁🍎🏫📝🎓

Demonstration of herding cats.

Really True!

I really like watching this. But could not do it personally. More than 3 people is like herding rabid ferrets for Me.
Tout ce travail pour une photo qui ne sera regardé qu'une fois moi j'ai plus la patience
Most people look at their wedding photos more than once and their kids look at them even more ☺️
Whew…. This stressed my out, can’t imagine what you must deal with.

Flash I love flashing , ummm whaaaat Harry , grow up dude lol , depends I guess
