SHE DID SOME CLEANS ON HANDSHAKE WITH HELL AS WELL AS BEING FEATURED WITH OTHER ARTISTS AND WITH THE AGONIST, THO I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR IT MORE IN ARCH ENEMY, DEATH METAL ISNT KNOWN FOR CLEAN VOCALS AND IM GUESSING AS WHY SHE DOESNT DO IT MORE, BUT MAYBE THE BAND WILL COME AROUND TO SEE THE VALUE OF DICHOTOMY IN VOCALS TO GIVE A DIFFERENT FLAVOR AND EXPRESSION, AS WELL AS ADDED DISTINCTION TO THEIR MUSIC AND THE GENRE. JUST AS LIGHT AND DARK DEFINE EACHOTHER.
This is not how arch enemy should sound. They should start and do some heavier shit like the songs with angela. But it would be awesome if alissa had another band with cleans
Arch Enemy is a melodic death metal from the beginning. Death metal sound doesn't require clean singing because it should fill with growls from start to finish.
Nita is awesome. I've seen her live a couple of times with Alice Cooper. The drummer (and manager) in the video and on her album is her fiance, Josh Villalta.
Alissa has described her "true" singing voice as being mellow, almost bluesy. The clean parts in this track do seem way higher and brighter and twangier than she usually uses. I wonder if the B side version of "Demons are a Girls Best Friend" in which she sounds almost like a lounge singer may be a truer example of tone/quality. In terms of being a soprano or not. I have no idea! But it would be fun to play "Swan Lake" from The Agonist album "Lullabies of a Dormant Mind". There's no video footage, but just give it a listen to hear how high she can take her voice. Whatever she is doing, though, makes her a fascinating and dynamic vocalist who uses texture the way most singers use pitch. Nita Strauss is also playing the bass in this track. Obviously the guitar isn't actually plugged in because it's a video, but I do get a kick out of her neck grab technique when she does it live for real. It really does take stage craft to be interesting to look at while also producing musical excellence - you can't just stand there in a power stance. Am always impressed by her live work because it is never static.
According to the range planet her range is C2-F6, but they count distorted/growl/screams, they list a clean C3 though (they list a B♭2, but there is some weird formatting going on so I'm not sure if that is a typo or not). The Swan Lake you mention they list as E♭6. That list is also 3 years out of date, so it is missing stuff.
At long last, one of my favorite Vocal Coaches analyzes this thrilling song by one of my favorite guitarists! I have soooo waited for this. Thank you, Beth!!!
I continue to enjoy seeing female metal musicians emerge and achieve recognition like this. By now I hope the longstanding skepticism against them is eroded more than ever. And I just want to mention I made a similar move away from social media. I was turned off by the increasingly political content and people’s nastiness towards each other. Online I would rather check out some incredible music.
These women are so badass. Powerful, classy people. Another artist on Nita's album I would like to see you react to is Lilith Czar, "Monster". If you're looking for another wolf related song, country rock artist Jax Hollow has a song called "Wolf in Sheepskin". Jax is a fantastic guitarist, and a wonderful voice.
Hi Beth, I know you didn't really like "Make Me Famous" by Kim Dracula, but they have some other incredible songs I think you'd really like. In terms of music videos, they have "Drown" , "Seventy Thorns", and "Superhero" and in terms of vocal talent I would recommend "Land of the Sun", "Rose", "Kitty Kitty" or "Luck is a Fine Thing" PS I have been loving Power of the Wolf!!
I love the wolf series :) But this one was a bit of surprise :D Generally I got surprised this year on how much vocal coaches are interested in growl singing... I listened to quite a lot of metal in my teen's twenties, I kinda grew out of this kind of vocals, I'm much more now into powerful clean voices. But if you do like some metal I recommend checking Danggisio's 'Fake Love' cover. There's really amazing mix of different singing styles, though there's no growl.
You should listen to older Arch Enemy with Angela Gossow. She's mother wolf. And I've been listening to BAND-MAID and the lead guitarist sounds a lot like Nita. Also the lead singer has the most gorgeous voice I've heard in god knows how long. Any song will do. I'm pretty sure you'd love them all.
I think I may have commented under the original video there that they should do an entire album together. I stand by that! These two ladies kick all kinds of butt (despite being vegan...but being vegan is fine so long as y'all ain't preachy about it)! I do find that I can _usually_ tell just by the voice if the growls/screams are being done by a man or a woman, but it's undeniable that there are outliers. Fantastic ones, like Alissa sometimes (when she wants to), or Tati from Jinjer...crap, I discovered someone new to me not long ago I was going to leave as another example and suggestion, but both the woman and the band elude me presently...dammit.
OK - I see that you've come across Alissa too 😳 She actually can sing so well in a normal pitch, I think it's such a pity she chooses what most people call the "growl". I've listened to a fair amount of Alissa and also Tatiana Graychuk(I think - the Jinjer front woman), and they really have much more talent than they use. Oh great, you mention the Two Wolves concept - it was actually a Cherokee Wisdom - I should upload the image I used as eye candy for this haiku I posted a while back Two Cherokee wolves. You decide which one to feed. Choose good or evil. Discussing that "growl" effect, my 2 cents worth - to me it's not growling or howling, it's a strident croak. Try during your voice warmup making growling, howling and croaking sounds - see if you agree.
ITS A CHEROKEE OR KITUWAH PROVERB OF A GRANDFATHER TALKING TO HIS GRANDSON, SHORT VERSION: THERES 2 WOLVES INSIDE ALL OF US, FIGHTING, 1 GOOD, 1 EVIL. THE GRANDSON ASKS WHICH 1 WINS? THE GRANDFATHER REPLYS, THE 1 YOU FEED.
Today Cartola, one of Brazil's greatest composers, would turn 115 years old. May I suggest you reacting to Cartola being sung by Ney Matogrosso, one of Brazil's greatest voices? The song is called "O Mundo é um Moinho" ("the world is a mill"), video ID dy2TsEk-ZfA. Thanks, I love your work!

This is one of my favourite songs of the last year. The whole of Nita's new album is superb.
She got so many amazing vocalists to collab with her on that new album. Absolutely awesome!
This song - how Arch Enemy should sound like in the future as long as Alissa is their vocalist =) More use of her cleans to contrast the harsh vocals.
Exactly, loved her in the Agonist but I feel she’s wasted in Arch Enemy.

Crazy to hear Alissa mix up the vocals. Her and Nita are just killing it
I love how much you're into it, when you're explaining it and expressing your thought.
At long last, one of my favorite Vocal Coaches analyzes this thrilling song by one of my favorite guitarists! I have soooo waited for this. Thank you, Beth!!!
OMFG!!!!!!! Two of the most beautiful and talented ladies in metal in a collaborative together............ Mind blown!

This song is off the charts mad !
Love it !
Cheers from Australia 😎🤘
..how the guitar sounds.. thats amazing ❤..Nita is a genius..❤
Thank you for this reaction. This is my kind of music.
My favourite song of last year ❤
Mine too
Best song of her new album. In the wolf theme, check out SheWolf - The One You Feed
Maybe I missed it, but Nita is a descendant of Johan Strauss II (Die Fledermaus among other pieces).
Wow. Makes her even more cool...

Alyssa’s best work was with The Agonist (IMO of course). Check out Thank You Pain or Panophobia. This song is very much in that league.
You should check out Otep Shamaya of Otep. She was one of the early female singers doing harsh vocals. She's also a voice actor and a poet

PS I have been loving Power of the Wolf!!

Another good wolf themed song, Wolf or Lamb by League of Distortion.

Yes!! That must be the one I am thinking of!
@@BethRoarsABSOLUTELY, ALISSA PUT HER SPIN ON IT.
If you think Alissa has a lot of false chords, you need to hear Jinjer.... I'd recommend Pisces.
Hey Tim! It was once of my very first songs on this channel!
YOOO! wannna meet a new Female Deathcore Vocalist? MADE REATC PLZZ _*

Wow I never knew Nita was vegan!
