      @@PhilVarone333 Cheers Phil. You're most welcome. I'm in England so the only time I got to see you guys was back in '91 at the Button South in Hallendale Beach as we were on a 3 week vacation and did all the usual Florida touristy stuff but being fellow long haired rock dudes (the hair's long gone now lol) we liked to check out the music scene too and you just happened to be playing as we rolled into town. Fantastic gig!

      I've had this song in my back pocket since I was a teenager in the 90's. I was 11 in '92, so it was a little before my time, but when I heard it first(15-16 yo), it quickly became one of my top Power Ballads.
      I came here a little tentative, thinking that I might ruin an awesome song for me, by watching a sub-par performance of it live. I worried for NOTHING!

    In their prime in 1991-1992, my band opened for Saigon Kick to a full-capacity crowd at the Rockit Club in Tampa Florida two separate times. As a local bar-star and seasoned player eight or ten years older than these guys, I couldn't help but be amazed with the amount of command they had over the audiences at those two shows... It was both awe-inspiring and a little humbling knowing we'd never come close to reaching their (albeit fleeting) level of popularity. They effortlessly connected with any crowd they encountered, and rightly so because they rocked. All pretty nice guys...Tom was always the coolest, Matt was generally pleasant and polite, Phil shagged our girlfriends, and Jason was a little to aloof and distracted to notice the relative strangers occupying the same space as him backstage. And now some thirty-plus years later, we all work at the same carwash... Their charisma level is still the same, but their energy output is lagging, especially on busy Saturday mornings...

  • @tjborekvideo

    Lightning in a bottle. This band had it. The songs. The vocal harmonies (Matt and Jason blend so well). Musicianship. Beauty. Aggression. Right place. Right time. I was glad to see these guys on the Lizard tour. Great memories. I still listen to the first two albums fairly regularly.

      I saw them in '91 at a festival in the middle of a Florida cow pasture. Soundgarden had just finished and as much as I loved them, they were horrible. Plus their mix was muddy, so I was expecting it was gonna be a night of bad festival sound. Then Saigon Kick hit the stage and just owned everyone. The band mix was to die for, the vocal harmonies sat above it all crystal clear, and they just held the crowd in the palm of their hand. Turns out it wasn't just a case of bad festival sound after all.

    Growing up in Florida (Daytona Beach) I have been lucky enough to see SK at least 30 times. Great band that still gets regular plays on my iPod. As a drummer, I credit Phil Varone as a direct influence for learning hi hat sweeps and integrating tribal rhythms in my music. World Goes Round and One Step Closer for the win.

    • @bellaralte1317
      @bellaralte1317 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude, Grunge did not end this kind of music it ends (?) itself means there are so many bands emerged at this time same looks, same music, same attitude etc and the people are sick & tired of them and that is the biggest reason, imo. There are great bands as well as not so good bands and this diluted the industry.

      Yea they had a "thing" didn't they? I had 2 of them. Always hated how they tried to get away from you while sitting down playing tho lol

    I love the Lizard, however once Jason took over all vocal duties, they absolutely blew my mind. Water is a monumental album for me. Lots of memories from childhood associated with that album
