Bung'o

Bung’o, Binazi mamba, Bunzi are local names of the Flower Chafer beetle bugs insects among the Mijikenda people. So the instrument is an inspiration from the flower chafer beetle. This is a blowing instrument, which is usually accompanied by Mugabe instrument another fascinating percussive instrument, also indigenous to the Mijikenda people. Unfortunately, as modernization takes root and traditions increasingly fading, there are very few practitioners from few clans and sub-clans currently practicing and teachers of this instrument. It is therefore considered an endangered species instrument at the brink of extinction.
