      Some of the stuff was overpriced low performance vintage. But the Pathos mono blocks and preamp are amazing best electronics in the store by far, and the clearaudio concept wood was probably the best TT in the store.TEAC DAC was one of the few newer ones I saw. you could put a very high performance system together with the Elac speakers or B&Ws they had, or the Fyne audio monitors, pathos Monos and Pre, clearaudio concept and a TEAC DAC. it’s just too bad they didn’t have any Esoteric Brand CD players or furutech Cables.

    550,000 Yen is $3,483.77 in American currency, for anyone who's curious. The gear in that store is amazing. Vintage Hi-Fi is making a huge comeback, especially re-capped and restored receivers from the receiver wars of the 1970's. When Technics and Marantz were cranking out monster receivers that pumped 300+ watts per channel into 8 Ohms. Hi-Fi stores like this are a treasure trove.

      And that is about $2000 OVERPRICED for a Garrard 401. Prices in that store are insanely high, at least for the US.

    • @bertroost1675

      @@ASennaFan Probably due to it's origin. Japanese made items might be cheaper there than here in the US.

      @HeinrichGermany1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ASennaFan Yes, that's true. When I'm in Tokyo, I like to go to "hard off" and look for nice vintage Hi-Fi equipment. The prices for American or European top-of-the-line equipment are very high. But Japanese equipment is much cheaper there than in Europe. The condition of the equipment is very good (not when the equipment is offered as defective).

    • @trevor245
      @trevor245 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ASennaFan I do think it is on the expensive side but you are ignoring the tonearm. A sme 3012 broadcasting arm like that is worth in the 1000-1500 usd range, the 401 goes for around there as well. I don't know the condition but given that it is all likely fully restored I don't think it is terrible. That being said for Japanese standards it is very expensive. These devices are likely rarer in Japan than they are in EU and the US though, as garrard was a UK brand. I am surprised to see a relatively large amount of thorens, garrard, quad, jbl and other European and US brands here. Japanese made aucio equipment is typically way cheaper if you import than if you purchase it in the US or EU. Not so much for non Japanese brand equipment ofcourse.

      @ … yeah, I’ve noticed prices have been going up lately. A beautiful Sansui amp was plentiful and very reasonable just a few years ago, now it’s becoming harder to find and when you do, the price had doubled or tripled within recent years. When something very special does come in, you have to be quick. I’ve seen some unbelievable items in this place within the last ten years and it moves. I try to make the rounds at least once a month. Purchased a Sansui AU 7500 here for roughly $900 seven years ago in totally mint condition including work done internally by the in-house technicians. I thought it was a little high at the time but todays prices are double or triple if you can find one in good condition. Still haven’t seen another as clean as mine.

    Great video! I love the glass display cases with the smaller components in. Sad but if shops still had displays like this in the UK, most of the stuff would be stolen by shoplifters. Very few UK shops have this kind of display now. All of these small items are always behind the counter. The low crime rate in Japan is a lesson to the world.
    The junk section is incredible. More shops in the UK should do this to minimise wastage and increase recycling. Thanks for showing the cassette decks and turntables, beautiful!
    @Hifihobby Technical insight, a 4K camera, ideally with a minimum 60fps would help a lot with the small writing on price boards. You're in the right country to buy one if funds allow...

    Hello, from Chiba, Japan.
    It wasn't great video, but I certainly impressed, because of your eager to depict what you have seen shops like that in Japan with relatively long reportage of somewhat thorough one.
    As a Japanese locals, I would recommend for you to pay a visit to any of Hard-Off(s) but think twice before buying things. Their pricing is relatively expensive and most of them are guaranteed for a month to nearly 3 or 6 months and sometimes a year at the best. So you will never know until you take it home and power on to see.Although some shops may let you know before you buy some expensive ones from them. I personally trust ? or rely on to online shops like Merucari, and because their pricing and also the quality of those goods being sold are relatively secured with return policy and those buy-and -sell communications between the two so called haggling or things like that.Some tips being said, as a conclusion to say is that visiting any of those Hard Off is fun and exiting to see before you would buy something like Audio equipments or Digital cameras.And if you have enough time in Japan to stay, Hard off offers some on line shopping sites in Japan, if you are curious about it.

    I am a fan of this audio equipment myself.
    However, the selection in Japan is mind-blowing. There is no such selection in Germany and neighboring countries. For fans like me, it is a rarity.
    Yes, I have this type of equipment, but bought in Germany for little money, which I am happy about, because it is high-class equipment made on high-quality components, where no money was spared for their production at that time. In the 80s and later, the main focus was on the final quality of audio equipment.
    This type of store is a treat for fans, where they can freely choose the audio equipment and others they once dreamed of.
    It is a pity that in Poland there are no such stores with such a selection of goods .

    That JBL 4311 which is pro use of JBL L100 century speaker, at 4:33, price of whopping 880,000 Yen is about 880,000/157 = $5,605 U.S. dollars. If I paid that much for 4311 there, I can buy the same one in the U.S. for about $500.00 each, so I can buy more than 10! This is not just this store but most stores in Japan importing foreign stereo equipments will charge very high. I used to live in Japan back in 1950s and 60s and it was the same story, especially any U.S. made items were very expensive. They charge import tax very high, plus the middle man. It's worse now because the dollar to yen exchange rate is about 157 Yen to dollar, before was 360 yen to dollar for many years. This is why always do the shopping before purchasing anything.

    I've done my share of browsing used audio gear in Tokyo. My general impression is that they value US-made and Euro-made gear above Japanese gear. Some of the prices on used gear made outside of Japan are ridiculous. Thus there are bargains to be had in shopping the Japanese brands.
