Just found out this channel while I was looking for more history on radioactive materials and x-rays. There aren't many podcasts or videos like this about x-rays and it's history. Really enjoying the videos!!
When a HS senior in 1964, a classmate and myself found an old cold cathode X-Ray tube in the physics lab storeroom. The physics teacher gave us permission to see if we could get it to work. My friend and I designed a power supply using an old neon sign transformer and a 1B3 HV rectifier tube from a B&W TV. Out first try of taking a X-Ray of a leather key holder using a sheet of 4X5 Kodak Verichrome film did not work. The film, when developed, showed no sign of being exposed. For our second try, we put a sheet of phosphorescent paper in with the film. This time the outline of the leather key holder with the keys inside were clearly visible. The teacher was impressed as he did not think that we could get it to work.
In german speaking countries, the X-rays are called Roentgen rays and the process itself is described by the verb roentgen. Thank you for the very interesting video!
Top of the week to you Katy. I have to say your youtube channel is my favourite programme about science, since cosmos a spacetime odyssey, love what you have done.
The most interesting X-ray I had was the whole mouth one done for my wisdom teethe extraction. I don't remember the X-ray procedure all that much as these taken just before I had my wisdom teeth were pulled. The extraction was a breeze as two of them had already erupted and the other two had grown in place in a vertical orientation. I was driving 4 hours after surgery and I went to the fair the next day. This was done a week before I went into the US Army.
your explanation is really good and your information seems to be reliable. I would love to use your information on a paper for university. however your "reliable sources" as you call them in your account discreption dont list where you found the information. (at least I didnt see it) You would help me out a lot if you could maybe give me your sources. Thank you in advance. Keep up the good and interesting videos ;)
Two videos ago you promised to tell us how this guys life fell apart after he took the first X-ray pic then last video u repeated the same info as the prior same scientist etc and now halfway through this video u repeating the same info I watched all your videos from the beginning and hundreds of times I’m just moving into the radio stuff but I’m a little flustered at the redundance of info from this vid and the two prior ones same info for 3 videos regurgitated

😮😮😮😮wow!!!
"I have seen my death" - with 15 minutes of X-ray exposure, it's quite possible!
proudsnowtiger ha! Luckily for Bertha her husband’s x-ray machine produced very little x-rays so it wasn’tu as dangerous as it sounds.

Same in Poland 🙂
Thanks. Did you know that German hospitals don't have x-ray departments? It's always the Roentgen department.

LFA the Movie That is such a lovely compliment, thank you!
I'm a graduate student and I loved this video, it helped me a lot to comprehend the X-rays. Greetings from Brazil!
Greetings so glad you liked it and good luck with your schooling
@@Kathy_Loves_Physics Thank you!
Good video for comprehensive explanation on the scientific process of Roentgen's discovery. Really helpful!

AMIT PATIL so glad you liked it
your all videos are very interesting and informative
Physics by Akshay so glad you enjoyed them
Just accidentally found this channel 😮 same way as XRays were found😊😅 learnt something interesting today
That is a fascinating video.
Thanks, glad you liked it.
Excellent
Very interesting.....I loved it.
Great video series Kathy!
Thanks Freddie
I was born on the 100th anniversary of the discovery of X-rays. TIL
Great video subscribed.

So glad you liked it, feel free to share
Great video.
Colombian flag glad you liked it.
I find your videos penetrating and illuminating!
Thanks
Great videos.❤❤❤
Glad you liked it.
In my humble opinion those who succeeded in physics are the messengers of creation .
so become one yourself ❤😮😊
Tube had an opening in end and yet was a vacuum, or connected up to a machine that would create a vacuum. Didn't this cause a problem?
1:22 “can be moved with a magnet 🧲 “ but why not with an electric ⚡️ source????😮😮😮😮😮
I like the new mic!
cathy - tell us about your journey. how did you learn all of this??😮😮😮😮❤❤❤😊😊😊
can i use an incandescent light bulb 💡 to create an electron beam? 😮😮😮
I have a medallion of w,c, roentgen 1895 -1995 do any one know its value?many tnx
William Morgan discovered them 110 years before in 1785
if the cathode is losing electrons - would it not run out of them? 😮😮😮
"Hold up varioua items" ... Probably not an electric hand dill thouh.
Aww brutus
I over this

I've been pronouncing Roentgen wrong all this time.
You said "develop the film" when you meant "expose the film" ... just sayin'
Go fast
mota moti biswas kora jai....90%....with love amd.
Handcuffs…
Sorry but Ivan Puluj discovered xray....
I've wondered why there is no mention of him in this series.
Johann Puluj admitted that Röntgen was first.
