    Misconduct Widespread in Retracted Science Papers, Study Finds
    www.nytimes.com/2012/10/02/sci...
    “Last year the journal Nature reported an alarming increase in the number of retractions of scientific papers - a tenfold rise in the previous decade, to more than 300 a year across the scientific literature.”
    Why people fall for bullshit, according to a scientist
    www.vox.com/science-and-health...
    “Pennycook is the lead author of a new study wonderfully titled "On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bullshit." In it, he and his colleagues asked questions no psychologists have touched on before. Such as: What makes a person a good bullshit detector? Why are some people more susceptible to bullshit than others?”

    One of the best videos from DNews in a long time. And this is what I love about scientific minded people: they are willing to be self-critical because science is all about failing often until you find the right answer. On the other hand, it's usually harder for religious people to be critical of their own religious institution, due to dogma.

    • @dudeistpreist5721

    • @mamaobama7132
      @mamaobama7132 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      actually I find it to be quite the opposite. Most of my atheists friends never admit anything bad about science and are constantly trying to provoke me by offending my religion. I also find that you are being stereo typical about religious people

    • @LunatiqueRob
      @LunatiqueRob 8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I HAVE NO NAME I think it's down to the nature of the two. Science's mission is to experiment and gather evidence to support or refute a hypothesis or theory, so it's almost subversive by nature. But religion is all about obeying the rules, and to break the rules is to be punished. Religion does not promote experimentation and overthrowing long-held beliefs or the tenets of the faith, while science encourages it.

    • @LunatiqueRob
      @LunatiqueRob 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ***** Not exactly. They were lying and committing fraud, and that's not really what I was talking about.

    • @mamaobama7132
      @mamaobama7132 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Rob “Lunatique” Chang no I think you've got it quite wrong. The vast majority of Christians support science its just that they don't support theories such as evolutionism and big bang. It makes a lot of sense as most universities in the Us and Europe are born from religions such as Christianity and clearly universities promote science. I also think that your overall understanding or religion is false. What you are thinking of is a cult. All mainstream religion are always born out of love, compassion and care otherwise there would be no one to believe in it. Just go to any place if worship and you can feel the kindness. You are somewhat correct about stepping out if order as if you commit any harsh sins such as murder and adultery, you will be punished but there is always room for forgiveness. In fact when Jesus was in Jerusalem, and Jews brought a woman who committed adultery to him to see how he would react, he forgave that woman. There are right and wrings of religion but nonetheless, we shouldn't judge other people for putting their faith there.

    Thanks Julia, very spot on subject for this channel! Not that I think you're BS-ing us... Because you're not, right? Also, it's ok to call shit "shit".

    there was this study that suggest that life began much more earlier than expected. i knew it was BS because they said life began around 4.1 billion years. i mean at that time i don't think that certain conditions would be meet for life to be sustained.

    There's a small but critical error in the title: it should be "why you shouldn't always trust scientists/scientific reports"
    The scientific process itself is sound, it's just important to do properly.
