    Thanks for this great video! But now you have HA on 2 routers with a single switchs as spof?

    Great informative video as usual, thank you! Had no idea the much beloved EdgeRouter had VRRP. But wouldn't it be cleaner to use .2 on router #1, .3 on router #2 and then use .1 as the virtual IP?

    I'm just getting into VRRP. Would like to see you do a new video expanding on different options. I don't think you ever revisited the topic. Thank you for the informative video.

    How do the routers authenticate each other in their VRRP partnership?

    The VRRP setup works great for the LAN side of things when the primary router is down, but what about the WAN side when the ISP connection is down?
    How would i configure the primary router to monitor an external IP for connectivity and if that is lost, it redirects traffic to the secondary router, then returns as the primary when it detects connectivity?

    I have multiple WAN IP address using on same interface and which are NAT to internal computers/server, But now I am planing to add another router to prevent hardware failure, can I add all the WAN ip to VRRP in both Edge Router infinity as well as the LAN with VRRP?.

    Hi Willie I really like your tech videos. I am learning a lot from Ubiquiti especially EdgeMax products. Can you do a more in depth VRRP with multiple vlans. Is it possisble using the Layer 3 Edgeswitch? Thanks again!

    i know this may be a dumb question but is their any way of doing this with a Public static IP.. my only thought is most businesses that has this type of Need for a redundant Link will also probably need a static IP address.

    Does the USG-Pro have this VRRP Option?

      through CLI, yes, but your config is wiped when you apply any changes to your network through the Controller.
      There is a way to re-apply the config through a json file, but i never got it working.

    With only one WAN address- and that address being dynamic from a single ISP, in order to play around with this could I throw an dumb switch in front of the 2 routers to account for the redundant links to the ISP gateway?

    • @Meddle_is_way_underated
      @Meddle_is_way_underated 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WillieHowe Check that - it would have to be a another router, in the case of a dynamic IP from a single ISP. We know Spectrum isn't handing out 2 for 1 and I got ahead of myself with the dumb switch Idea:)

    • @Elucidator

      @@Meddle_is_way_underated you could buy a cheap L3 switch for 20-30 bucks and put it in front of the 2 routers so you'd have 2 different ip addresses for the routers or?

    Thanks for the tutorials!! This could save our lives in a near future as we still need to walk to both ER-8 and switch manually 4 x cat6 cables when a router fails!
    For switch we use 2 x Cisco 3750x (stackpower failover) and LAG at this time but we need to fix our router issue (Ubnt ER-8) and you showed us something really interseting here. Again Thank you :) Just missing dual power supply on ubnt..

    • @DaveyHoogland

      Agree, the dual PSU is really a problem, the only SPOF for us is the PSU.

    Can you demonstrate how this would work if the WAN was PPPoE instead of just DHCP? Would it still be possible?

    • @undergod1987
      @undergod1987 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes this doesn't rely on the External Link as much as the Communication between the two routers on the LAN. So the only thing different from his video would be the WAN Set up on each Router.

    Can you do this with two USG's?

    • @darrenoleary5952
      @darrenoleary5952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i hope you've found your solution in the 2 years since you first posted this question, but if not, the answer is yes, but...
      it can be configured from the CLI of the USG through SSH, but the in reality the config needs to be saved to a json file... given that you're using a USG, any changes that you implement to your network through the UniFi controller, it will erase your personalised USG configuration so you'd have to have a method of reinstating that config after the controller has made any changes.
      I tried doing this on two USGPro4's then gave up and purchased to ERs.
      It meant a little more work for me to manage my network separately with changes to my router/firewall in the ERs, with the UniFi controller only managing my UniFi devices, rather than having managed all through one interface.

    Anything special have to be done on the switch?

    • @darrenoleary5952
      @darrenoleary5952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      nothing, as the LAN side of the routers and the switch (assuming you're using a managed switch) would be in the same subnet
