A Fulfilling for Personal Self-satisfying Intelligent Man or a mechanical robot? 1) AI is such a very impressive accomplishment and improvement by the 21st-century modern man. However, would AI reduce or increase many more already modern's man problems; improve all individual to become better oneself, physically, psychological, all meaningful aspects, (of happiness, longevity, and immortality), or merely makes their life a lot more easy, convenient, comfortable, fulfilling personal self-satisfaction, and laziness?
2) Ultimately, if AI could not help improve all individual's health, intelligence, virtue wisdom, morality, and longevity; then why should they put in so much work, hope, expectation, and promises? al
Self learning AI is a different story however. But ultimately yes there would have to be a shut off... if humans became a threat to its goals but who are the programmers?

AI and social media is one of the most dangerous combinations we're facing as humans right now. Like Elon keeps saying, we need to keep AI open to the public (not just big, corrupt corporations) and possibly work WITH, not FOR it - for it to do us any good.

I will be getting Neuralink, probably not right away because there'll definitely be travel costs. And not to mention, the availability of the surgery.
How many locations will have these machines? Outside of the United States? I mean I'm from Newfoundland Canada, one look up on the internet and you'll know easily that we won't have something like the Neuralink surgical machine for like 20 years Lol
I've asked around, half the people don't believe it exist, one quarter believe it's going to be the end of humanity and the other quarter will talk about it in a interested manner, but doesn't truly believe its real.
The marketing is something Im curious about. How will they make money in mass when the only people who know about it are mostly online? Half of us seem like we're against it and I think all of us as a whole are a minority with this topic anyway. SpaceX and Tesla are something else, but Neuralink, its like the next neurological step for humanity.
It's really not as scary as people think. AI is just a statistical analysis engine. It's really better to call it machine learning than AI. It's not intelligent in the way people think.
@Successful Our brain actually doesn't work similar to a statistical analysis engine. That's why statisticians exist and they need strong mathematical backgrounds to interpret large volumes of data. I'm not sure what kind of background you have in stats, but I can tell you that a lot of it is really complicated and not easily understood by laypeople because we didn't evolve to understand it. We tend to make causal inferences more than statistical ones.
@Successful I guess that's true. That's also true of an atomic weapon though. I'm mostly just challenging the fear of AI becoming sentient and enslaving humans.

1. For years our minds have been shaped by marketing propaganda do define poisons as good nutrition. Morbid obesity is just one overt symptom, whereof I speak.
2. Enter marketing the above with computer aided data mining and prediction algorithms...technologies.... getting more effective by the day.
3. So AI , in effect, will shape humans to define black as white and white as black.... not according to reality but according to the owners of AI ...NOT us!
4. Most scary, we mere smucks will not know that #3 above occured. It will "seem" right as rain to see Black things as white...bla, bla...
5. In the AGI world we are heading for, we humans may be shaped into seeing and behaving in AI (AGI) determined ways ( maybe we are already there).
6. Here is scary thought, suppose AI "decides" on who m is useful , for its purposes) or not? And then imposes a feel "right" set of algorithms for people to willfully and happily suicide.
7. Happily suicide? Am I crazy? Naw, I only need point to the very crude and old example of hard core drug addiction ... or the dramatic example of eating ourselves to death with fee good "food"??

The main thing I like about Elon is his choices in tech that advances the good of humanity and innovation. I believe NeuraLink will provide some of the best data on how human brains work. Further our understanding of how neurons work and where in brain.

The examples you brought in the first part of the video reminded me very very heavily of Isaac Asimovs stories. Should be compulsory reading for anyone programming AI.

A.I. is basically complex, chaotic algorithms that are guided by a programmer. Such algorithms are merely functions with inputs and corresponding outputs. This chaotic nature means that some input-output pairs are odd, like a photo recognition AI thinking that a picture of white noise is a beach. There was always be the chance of a malfunction given a white noise scenario.

A robot/AI may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

What is often underappreciated about AI is the fact that it is not conscious. Humans are self-aware, have free will and are motivated by eons of selective breeding in response environmental pressures with species continuation imperatives in an extremely aggressive Darwinian ecosystem. Humans have self-preservation desires and emotions. Computers are not self-aware, have no desires or emotions whatsoever. Until we understand what consciousness is and if it is even possible to create in a mechanical device, I think we have little to fear that AI computers will suddenly decide to supplant humans. AI as fascinating and capable as it may be, it still is just a machine running a program. It has no emotional basis to be or desire to propagate and preserve itself unless millions of man hours are spent to write programs that emulate those tendencies. Even if the gargantuan effort to make a model of the human brain in a computer is accomplished it still will not be self-aware nor have a free will. I only see promise in AI to make life better for all of humanity.
Are we? Are we conscious? Do we have free will? Maybe it's all an illusion. There's been researches concerning those matters and things are not as obvious as it would seem, so I would not hurry with conclusions, considering we already have GPT-3.

Just because we cannot explain consciousness doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Those that think everything is an illusion are perhaps an illusion. I for one know I am alive and can make decisions that impact my destiny.

Selective breeding ? People breed at random and the ignorant create MORE ignorant that become a burden on society with their drug use , murders , violence , destruction and aggression without provocation, these are the main cause of making humans so dangerous and unpredictable to those that inhabit this world that have no need for such. If there was selective breeding this would be a different world where humans can pursue more safe and positive existence that benefits all.
