      Their clock was at 2 am. At 20 after 2, they went out on the fantail and held a memorial service. I have the book by Ballard describing the discovery.

    This is a tragedy of epic proportions, and it's thanks to recent modern technology that Titanic's wreck was finally found and given her due respect... She lives on in everyone's minds, even though the sinking took place over 100 years ago, thanks to that 1997 movie as well as these interesting documentaries and mementoes of the ship, including her beautiful replica models!

Goosebumps man every time

      And over hundreds, if not thousands of ships lost during WW1, WW2 and countless other wars and battles. The entire planet is a graveyard when you really think about it. Humans have been killing each other and dying pretty much when the first primate fell off a tree and started walking on two legs.

Not only did he discover the Titanic's wreck, but he had the good sense to respect her as what she was: a gravesite, for the fifteen hundred who died in the most deadly peacetime maritime disaster in history. It was actually chief architect Alexander Carlisle who was in charge of safety with the Olympic class liners and the one who wanted 64 lifeboats and left H&W as a direct result of being overruled on the subject, leaving Thomas Andrews to take over his work on the Titanic. He proposed to have 46 lifeboats, a double hull (not just a double bottom) and bulkheads up to B deck, also he was overruled by William Pirrie...and the rest is history.

      The titanic would not turn to dust. Search the Big Piece. We raised that from the Titanic and it didn't turn to dust. So why can't we raise the bow of the Titanic?

    • @sharklostworld
      @sharklostworld 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      With such a large, brittle superstructure, the bow would crumble if it were to be moved. Besides, good luck finding something to lift an object that heavy, or, if it's a cable, a cable that long.

      damien Randall It's possible but it's going to be too impractical and stupid expensive. Titanic is heavily corroded and the stern section is completely destroyed.

    The Titanic is over rated, It is a mere boating accident compared to the the Wilhelm
    Gustloff which left the port jammed with over 10,000 German refugees, naval personnel and wounded soldiers. The vessel is designed to hold a maximum of 1,880 passengers and crew.Of the refugees, a staggering four
    thousand are infants, children and youths on their way to promising safety in the West. Minus 18° Celsius (0° Fahrenheit) weather grips the Oxhöft Pier in Gotenhafen (Gdynia) on Tuesday the 30th day of January 1945. the total number of survivors rescued number approximately 1,230. Over 9,000 go to their deaths trapped at the bottom of the Baltic or floating frozen on its unforgiving surface.

      ConfederceyCSA Go to hell you inconsiderate fuck. The Titanic was no "mere boating accident" it was a tradegy in which over 1500 lives were lost in just as cold waters and the history behind the ship and the building the story is what makes it seem "over rated" to you. However she was fascinating and no other maritime disaster in history will compare to the story of the Titanic.

    • @ConfederceyCSA
      @ConfederceyCSA 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      GMC TRUCK you can't handle the truth 1500 lives don't compare too 10,000 lives lost as sea.

    • @jordandelaney8619
      @jordandelaney8619 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes I can easily realize that's more than 5x the lost. However it's the story and the history and all the factors making the Titanic famous. The Gustloff didn't have so much buildup being the most famous ship in the world and so much glory, claimed unsinkable and then suddenly sinking on its maiden voyage. The only comparison making it more memorable was the much greater loss of life than the Titanic. But nothing more. And that doesn't excuse the fact of calling the ship and it's disaster overated any ship which founders with life loss or not is a tragic event

    • @ConfederceyCSA
      @ConfederceyCSA 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but both ships lost life in freezing waters.One ship had rich, young old people and other had civillians and soldiers, children, Titanic has ships arrive too late but saved survivors, William Gustloff all died in sub freezing waters during the War in Europe.

    • @jordandelaney8619
      @jordandelaney8619 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You realize the Titanic was made for immigrants? And children were on board? Also you said civillians on the Gustloff all Titanic passengers were civillians and the fact that it was sunk during a war just makes it more probable. The Titanic was sunk in the middle of the North Atlantic with sub zero waters. There were CHILDREN and RICH PEOPLE who perished along with the rest

    The wreck of the RMS Titanic is located about 370 miles (600 km) south-southeast off the coast of Newfoundland, lying at a depth of about 12,500 feet (3,800 m) or about 2.37 miles (3.81 km). The liner sank in April 1912, when it hit an iceberg during her maiden voyage. sad to know that haundreds of people died

    There are still hundreds of ships on the ocean floor that have not been discovered, hopefully, we can find them.

    • @TiffWaffles
      @TiffWaffles 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, I don't think that this will ever happen. While, along coastlines it can be possible to find shipwrecks dating well back into the medieval ages, in the middle of the ocean this isn't possible. Add to the fact that many of these ships disappeared or sank in parts unknown... The ocean is an open graveyard of people, and even if remnants of these ships are still where they have sunk and have not degraded over time, it's best to leave them where they are as a grave marker to those that lost their lives.

    Researching the past can actually give better insight to the future. Ever heard the saying "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"? By learning how certain things, especially mistakes, came about in the past then we can hopefully avoid those same mistakes in the coming years.
