Very cool walk around. I might be in the market for a 100/LX470. My 1997 80 (Collector's Edition 3X locked) was stolen in November and the way prices are now I could get a 2006/07 for less than the exact 80. I'm partial to the 80 but haven't tested a 100 yet. Realistically I'm sure it could do almost everything my 80 did like Imogene Pass, and a lot of harder trails in Utah.
Are you from Minnesota? The 03 and later 100s had a stronger 5 speed tranny so maybe that's why yours had an unfortunate end. And what size tires are you running? Very interesting how you did your suspension too.

thanks for the comments! what a drag to have any vehicle stolen, let alone a 3x locked 80! we actually had a 1997 3x locked LX450 that we sold last summer as i finally admitted i had too many cruisers :( i love the 100 on the road, but it's no 80 off road, for sure. mine had about 5" lift from a dobinson's progressive kit and was almost unstoppable. the 100 is WAY more comfy on the road though. that said, it holds it's own very well for a relatively stock machine. i currently run 285/75/16s on the 100. i like tall and skinny tires. thought about a 255/85/16 but not too many choices are available in that size.
yes, originally from mn, currently in ca.

Curious what failed in transmission? Lack of fluid, maintenance?

according to the folks that fixed it and did a bit of autopsy on the blown tranny, the overdrive gears exploded, causing catastrophic failure of the entire thing. i serviced it on a very regular basis and upon returning home checked with my mechanic and it had been serviced 20k miles before the grenade. many sources said it is an extremely rare failure and could have been a minuscule defect when it was originally assembled.

@makethings1792 I have been around the a343f and a442f for decades (80s-100s), never seen a blown up tranny, maybe shift solenoids going bad, but never internal damage.. Not saying it has not happend, just extremely rare as you stated..
