Most of these people are really trying to say “my parents indoctrinated me at a very very young age and I’m terrified and confused now”
The reason Atheists don't believe the gospel is not a cognitive problem, it is a spiritual one - “They are spiritually blind” (John 3:3). In other words, it isn't a rational decision they make, it is an emotional choice: they don't want God to exist. But they know he exists and hold the truth in unrighteousness - “They live in denial of reality” (Romans 1:18-22).

(Nuzi Ruins Tablets, St. Peters House & the ‘Ain Dara Temple, Shroud of Turin Discovery in 2009). How about the Multiple historical sources from credible writers such as Flavius Josephes, & Roman historians Pliny, Tacitus, & Pontius Pilot. Let’s not forget the Scientific evidence (Complex life requiring intelligent design, DNA being linked to intelligent design).

i advise you to stop telling people why they think what they think and instead go out and meet people you disagree with and ask them how they feel and what they think.
be kind and respectful to others. Listen to them. You will realize apologists and preachers have built in you an expectation about atheists that does not match the reality.

@@macysondheim Actually quite the opposite. I once was Christian, and giving that up was one of the most painful things in life. God was my Father, my Saviour, my Purpose. When I was deconverting, I didn't want to face the reality that he didn't exist. I spent countless months reading and re-reading the bible, reading apologetics, listening to debates, and listening to podcasts, and many tearful days and nights in prayer, and even studying Atheist arguments so I could separate weak apologetics from strong apologetics so I could "build a house of faith on rock instead of sand" as the parable goes. However, cold hard reality is often disappointing. I eventually found all the apologetics weak, the character of God flawed, and the silence from him deafening, as if he wasn't there. I'm fine now that I've learned there are other ways of living life besides for God. Point is, you could not be more wrong in your comment. Deconverting was not an easy process. It was a long painful one of turning my core beliefs inside out. However, it was definitely the right thing to do, as now my beliefs are more in line with reality, and now I am free from oppressive religious dogma and wishful spiritual thinking.
Matt Dillahunty has made me a better debater. I now don't make claims, I merely say I reject claims. I now answer "I don't know" when asked how we got here or how things happened. I now recognize arguments from ignorance, appeals to emotions, and other false arguments. Thank you Matt!

My big takeaway of listening to these AE calls is being able to better identify fallacious claims and to learn how to word my own statements better. I'm more aware of bad arguments and thought processes occurring in non religious discussions, political discussions for example.
One trick I learned is don't allow yourself to get bogged down in the science, just cut to the chase of the point the theist is trying to make, i.e there is a point at which no matter how smart or informed you are you don't know the answer, as atheist we say we don't know, and a theist will cram a God in there. All the theist is trying to do is get to a point in which you don't know the answer so they can cram in a God of the Gaps.
They will then pull a special pleading fallacy in which they attempt to explain why everything needs an explanation apart from their God.
@@24magiccarrot Good point. And I'm certainly not qualified to speak on anything with authority and expertise outside of the tiny subset of IT which I do for a living and am still no expert on. I don't know many answers but if there was such good evidence for God then there would be credible research papers on the subject. So my faith in the FSM and alien abduction stories is equally as valid as theirs.

I think a lot of non-christians forget that, as Christians, you are taught never to question your faith. Not asking questions is how you avoid critical thinking. These exercises seem painful, but we have to *have to* remember that they simply literally have not used their brain this way. It takes time.

As someone from an "atheistic" country not really knowing anybody who's actually religious, all of this sounds like a fever dream. I have friends who think there might be more to life than the material world, which is similar in a sense, but no one I know was brainwashed as a child to think hell is real.

@AlienToy 87 Well no, what it acknowledges is that we can't have absolute certainty about anything, and That concept never surprised me, We obviously don't have access to all the information, we are fallible and limited after all, but what you said that "You can't know anything to any degree" is false, and not what he is saying.
Think of this as lowering the temperature of something, we know (with reasonable certainty) that lowering temperature to an Absolute Cero is imposible but we know that there are different degrees of cold, and that we can be pretty damn close to absolute cero, but reach it? Not a thing.

One sec 🤔. This comment section is quite confused. Christianity: the religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices. Christians follow the teaching and practices of Jesus. Can anyone give me an example of Jesus saying or doing something immoral? If you are evidence based people you understand that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person in history who claimed to be the Son of God. Who was eventually crucified on Calvary hill. In the bible it was said he did this to save the world of our sins and bridge the gap to God. Following John 3:16 that whoever shall believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Before you attack the bible and Christians... Ask yourself some questions. What do you have against Jesus Christ, do you sincerely want to know the truth or do you have a bias against Christianity before you even know what it truly means to be a Christian. If athiesm was represented by only Stalin and Hitler I feel atheists today would feel misrepresented as to who held these beliefs. This doesn't represent what it means to be an atheist right?...Same goes for people who "claim to be Christians” and do evil acts. They misrepresent who Jesus was and what he taught us to be and how to live. Jesus said the greatest 2 commandments were to love God with all your soul, mind, and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. That is what we strive for. If you don't know Jesus, you can know him today. If you seek him with a humble heart he will reveal himself to you. Proverbs 8:17 "I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." Jesus loves you and he wants a relationship with you. Give your heart to Jesus Christ and receive the holy spirit. Repent of your sins, pray out to God and ask him to come into your life. We will all stand before our Creator one day. I pray you make the right decision here on Earth 🙏. I am also happy to answer any questions about Christianity or God. But don't come at me with hate because I don't hate anyone. I don't attack your life for what you believe. I just want to share the love of Jesus and what he has done for my life because one day we will be judged and Jesus is the way to avoid separation from God forever. Because it's a personal experience and a truth that comes when you physically experience it... It's very hard to prove a personal experience in words. But people share their testimonies to plant a seed to bring you to Jesus, and to those that listen with open ears they may come to know Jesus Christ. Once you know, you know. 1 Corinthians 2:10-15. Finally, for those that just ignored everything I just said because they have anger and hatred stirred up from the name of Jesus, and their previous experiences/biases against Jesus. John 15:18-27. I already know people will hate me for saying his name. This isn't a suprise to me 🤷🏻♂️.

I'm 3 hours in and the chap from Nigeria was the most honest of all the callers. He sounded genuinely confused about atheism as a topic and it took him only a few seconds to say "I would write that slavery is immoral".
This is way, way, WAY better than wiggling that most Christians fall back on. Probably because he just never had been exposed to the arguments of the other side and was genuinely interested in listening what they have to say, instead of swinging in with preconceptions, ready to show them atheists what's what

Bro my dad is a faithful watcher of this channel, and damn i love the debates and conversations. People can be so emotional once they get corrected, or proved wrong instead accepting that you don't know or just admit I learned something. I've been questioning inwardly about these religions since a teen but sort of a coward or afraid of loosing the family connection., I'm a African American living in the Southern state of TN and oh boy i haven't started yet or fully open the can on some of my family member, but i sure can tell by body language that i am treated different. It's just so obviously clear to see religions are mind control systems.

I'm black living having lived on both coasts and briefly the South, but my family isn't religious, at least my grandparents and my mom weren't. My mom and dad did send us to church alone and my mom just went along with my dad's religion Catholicism. Mom talked about angels, but no Jesus or God. My siblings aren't religious either. I did send my son to Catholic School and relieved he didn't get a nun. But it was more for the strictness (he needed it) than anything. My husband didn't care either way. But it was for only a year, I'm an atheist but never talk about it. I don't think they'd care. A cousin whom I was surprised was religious called me when my brother died after 3 months of a cancer diagnosis and then told me if he hadn't accepted JeBuS he was in hell. That was over 10 years ago and I'm still 😡

Regardless of your belief, it’s refreshing to listen to Matt’s logic. He can be a bit coarse but mostly uses sound reason which can be learned to use to argue whatever your position actually is

The trees are grafted from an artificially selected type that we decided was favorable for some reason. Because of this they are very susceptible to disease/insects that can efficiently prey on that specific cloned genome - and none of the plants will have any more resistance than any other because they are identical. This is how the last (more delicious Gros Michel type) of banana was completely wiped out by a single soil fungus (Panama disease) around 1960. It's evolving and starting to infect Cavendish (the current banana), as well. The grafted clones can't evolve; so we have to go back to the drawing board with more artificial selection (or more efficiently, Genetic modification) in order to come up with something new.
That's why they are susceptible to a virus that may kill off banana as we know it. This would actually be the 2nd time the banana we knew completely went extinct. This is why genetic diversity is important. If you clone 1 thing a million times, the same virus can devastate the entire clone population. In fact the fruit in the tree of knowledge was never an apple. It may have been a short, fat, brown Banana. Syria and Egypt it's called the apple of eden.
