I am curious how you came to this conclusion or interpretation of what Kazantzakis stood for. Yes, he has been described as an existentialist (even a pre-existentialist) and yes he grapples with the spiritual and religious aspects of existence (Howard F. Dossor, The Existential Theology of Nikos Kazantzakis) but to characgterise his brand of existentialism as being of the "Christian" variety is perhaps a bit of a leap of faith? After all, wasn't he almost excommunicated by the Greek Orthodox church? Wasn't he a 'leftist" who leaned towards democratic socialism? Though he never came out as an atheist, many believe that he was indeed that. Don't his novels deal a lot with a central theme of doubting Greek Orthodox Christianity and religion in general?. I would be happy to hear your evidence and rationale.
