Never heard this before, but from my first listen at this used record store, this record was coming home with me. It captured the vibe and energy from the golden years of disco and dance music. Glad I finally came across the masterpiece.
Well said! My TH-cam sreeen-name tells you where I'm from: NYC 😊 This was all over 107.5 WBLS, Disco 92.3 WKTU, and 98.7 Kiss WRKS FM. What a great song. Thank you uploader!
Larry was soooo way ahead of his time. But I will say this over and over again. Larry did some his best work with vocalist. He always let them shine.....
I grew up just around the corner from Jancie. She was always funny and nice. I am so proud of this song and I play it all the time. Great talent comes from North Philadelphia. I love her !!!!!!!!
Listen to her vocals so clean so damn sick YOU go Janice music from the 70's and 80's was just off the hook we grew up in the BEST OF TIMES!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world clubs the Disco seen guys looked great woman looked even better let alone the music yes bring it all back!!
I know everything great comes back, especially if it was once so great. The kids don’t even go out to dance and just go to bars to get drunk with their friends.. yeah, I hope dance music and dance culture comes back again. It did with the house music scene that I was heavily involved with in the early 90’s to about 2006.
2020 and still listening. Such a powerful, beautiful voice, and so young when she recorded it. Would wait all day for 92 WKTU to play it. Always had the DJ play this wherever I landed that night.
1979 was my First Summer in Boston. I was a waiter/busser at the Flower Garden in Quincy Market. My previous job has been as a male cocktail server at Boston-Boston. This great cut played in the back of the Flower Garden, Lizette who didn't even like 'disco", Rachel, the Flower Garden being one of the few places to have female cooks back in the day, Chef Casas, my managers Michelle, Charley Rose, bussers Cookie and Wally, servers Kell, Colleen and Jean Claude all grooved to this groove. After closing the cafe I would go to Boston-Boston and visit Leif, Sonny and Joe while Wendy Hunt and Jeff Tilton spun this. I had just turned 21. Some of these folks are gone and I am only in touch with a few but they are alive when this plays.
I remember falling in love with my dance partners. hustling the night away. I was one of many great dancers from the Bronx. when this song came on. They use to clear the dance floor for us. John Travolta had nothing on this. Janice was the best. smack dab in the middle...long version. rock on.
I remember skating to this at Twin City Roller Rink in Elizabeth New Jersey. These were the best of times when times were simple and people were able to enjoy themselves without the rhetoric of wondering what kind of person you were.
What a wonderful song, what elegant and beautiful orchestral arrangements, a true jewel of disco music, Janice's voice so angelic, so expressive, is one of my favorites of all my life.
My 1st year at Performance Arts in Philly I was a already a fan of the beautiful Janice McClain.. With just brief encounters I realized she was EPIC and graceful... Gave me hope!! I couldn't believe that the record I bought was from this tiny , hazel eyed beauty!!! She was so classy and warm.. Kudos to you Janice Mcclain!!! Made me smile!!!
I was there for the era we called disco , I was swept up in it and built a great collection of 12inch discs but this one is one of my true favorites . It's kept in a special pile of best of the best . The recording of this is incredible clean and tight and her vocals right on . Nice and loud to appreciate was I'm talking about . Great job in the studio on this one . Most 12 inch records sounded great anyway .
Good choice you sure know how to appreciate good music this is probably the best disco song that ever came out her voice is amazing I bought the album in 79 Whitney Houston or Chaka Khan don't have nothing on her I still listen to this frequently in 2018 and I'm white LOL
I’m Chinese and love classic funk and disco. I actually picked up this 12” last week and on the first listen loved it and bought. It was in mint condition and only $7.
This Song is what made me become a DJ Ron Hardy played this at the Music Box, it seemed like nothing else he played that night mattered. To this day it is my favorite out of 5000 records.

My first-year at Philadelphia High School for the Performing Arts in Philly. Janice McClain had already had hit records, but she was so nice and had already understood the music industry at 16.. She was so nice and graceful. I remember she used to wear this pretty white fur coat to school.
At the Garage Larry added about 20 to 30 ms of delay to the line out from the Bozak mixer to the main bus. Richard obliged this request and that touch of delay added everything to the rooms sonics. This habit, is acoustically present on almost all the music he produced -mixed during his career. I would end my shift spinning in Levittown LI. at 1:30 AM and grab what ever pretty was by my booth and head to the city to dance our selves to a lather till the Garage said good morning Then back out to Long Island to the west end of Jones Beach and smash the commandments in the dunes with my new “friend” 😉

When you pick and choose
Sometimes you lose
But I choose you boy anyhow
Nothing's gonna stop me now
But I can go over it
(So wide)
But I'm gonna get around it
(Too deep)
Hey I can get under it
(Too high)
So high
Smack dab in the middle of loving you
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Run and hide when love is on my side
I give an inch boy to gain a mile
Loving you is so worth while
Playing hide and seek
Till your heart gets weak
One, two, three, tag on you
No matter where you hide
I'm gonna get you
But I can go over it
(So wide)
But I'm gonna get around it
(Too deep)
Hey I can get under it
(Too high)
So high now boy
Smack dab in the middle of loving you
It's what I wanna do, it's what I wanna do
Hey well I can't get over it
But I'm gonna get around it
Hey I can get under it
So high
Smack dab in the middle of loving you
Can't get away, can't get away boy
You can't get away, you can't get away boy
You can run, you can hide
I've got love on my side
You can pick, you can choose
Sometimes you're about to lose
Give it up, give it up, give it on up

Hey when you're hot, you're hot
Hey baby when you're not, you're not
