Didn't came back to this channel since the ISO/aperture/Shutter Speed video in which I congratulate you for being the FIRST (and as far as I know the only) one into having the animation skills and the intelligence to do 3 rather straightforwards concepts into CLEAR explanations. And here you have achieved that AGAIN. I missed you. Keep the amazing work.
This video deserves 250k+ views. Accurate in-depth information that anyone can sink their teeth into and digest over and over as they learn the basics of photography.
Thank you for your kind words! I agree! I think this video is great for photographers beginner and advanced alike, and accurate information is definitely needed in order for everyone to "be on the same page" when we talk about photography.
Your voice is great. I've learned so much from this video, and I've tried many beginning photography videos on YT, and this is the first one that I've really gotten the core concepts from, as well as the terminology. EXCELLENT! Your slides were super helpful, also. I took notes and will review them. I'm going to look for more of your videos. 👍🏻
This is my first time on this video, loved the voice and patience you had. Pictures, examples were good thank you I subscribed and I enjoyed this video very much.
Thank you so much for your videos! I am not new to photography, but def new to a REAL digital camera. For years I used an Iphone. Having a real camera is a bit overwhelming so I am binging your videos. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apalapse, I'm glad you use your own voice now; nice to meet you! Since you asked, your speech pattern is very steady, which can challenge some people's attention span, especially nowadays, but you have a voice strong in character. Your dispensing of information is very efficient and effective, explanations concise; this makes every word worth hearing. What you say to be your opinion near the end I find objectively true, and the way you speak accentuates the objectivity of factual statements.
Mitchell, thank you very much for this feedback. I am sorry I didn't respond to your comment earlier, I am just getting back into TH-cam and uploading again after taking a bit of a break to focus on school and research. I really appreciate the kind words and I will be continuing to use my voice and later, my own self in my videos to deliver my content. Look forward to more from me soon.
Just ran across your channel while trying to put together a list of videos I can point people to when they are starting out or moving from their phone to a mirrorless or dslr camera. I am very happy to see that you actually explain what ISO is and what it does. To many people believe that it is sensitivity. I also cannot understand why anyone would give you a thumbs down on this video.
Thank you! Yes, the misconception surrounding ISO is one that I have encountered not in online articles but on TH-cam turotials and even in the three photography classes I have taken in college... it's not hard to understand ISO is just amplification, but most photography teachers don't teach it because it's "confusing," when really, saying ISO is sensitivity is more confusing IMO.
At 1:15 , your f numbers are missing the slash mark to indicate they are ratios (and thus the higher the denominator, the smaller the aperture). It should be: f/1.4 f/2.0 f/2.8 etc.
this is the best explanation for a beginner, really helpful. I hope the text presents many translations for other regions other than that everything feels perfect good job sir :D
I think this is the best photography video by far, super creative, love the cartoon icon type images you use throughout your video its no neat and to the point, I prefer learning like this than having someone teach it to me, I must say your robotic voice that you have created for your videos are also just so smart and neat! Thank you so much for your hard work in creating this video, I admire your genius brain
I am just getting into photography and have been watching a lot of videos. I have loved yours so far, especially the diagrams. Many other youtubers just talk about the concepts but it really helps to see them! Nice work and the voice over is great 👍
Thanks a lot, Drew. The feedback is really appreciate and motivates me to create more videos like these. I hope things are well with you and good luck with your photography. Let me know if you need anything.
Thanks a lot man ❤ when I saw your video I really saw myself knowing all of these technical terms.. I started learning photography 1 year ago and I knew almost everything.. Thanks a lot man.. You just explained my 1 year of hard working and learning photography in just one video ❤❤
I was looking for such video to know about the terminologies used in photography, just for sake of understanding... Thanks !! . The video has served my purpose
I'm glad it was helpful! Photographers use a lot of fancy and jargon terms so I think this video definitely helps those who may be confused by that aspect of photography.
Excellent and crisp informative video on Photography's must know jargons. Good voiceover Vincent. It would be great to hear your experiences with your voiceover and guidelines if any.
This was an amazing video, everything is well explained, I would love to see some more videos about more advanced photography techniques, just like you have done with astro
Excellent refresher. Funny, I know business casual channel changed the voice over and they got lot of hate because the other guy had a unique voice but I think your voice was very good.
Thanks a lot for these highly informative videos. I knew some basics but learned a lot about ISO, overexposing, ETTR and how HDR works (and why it's needed) from this video. Your voice fits great btw
This is amazing! I’m going to have my Yearbook students watch this video for their class with a companion worksheet as they start learning how to take good photos with our DSLR cameras 👍
I have a few questions. Learning the camera itself is like learning how to drive a stick shift - each clutch is different and each camera is different - I have had a few DSLRs what I've done is shoot a few photos in auto mode - to get the feel of the camera and then use those settings to start with in manual mode. Am I the only one who does this? Is this method a good one? Is there a better way? I think your voice sounds wonderful! You don't need the voice-overs. You sound fine just the way you are.
I am glad that you decided to stay with photography. It is encouraging and inspiring to hear that I helped you continue. Photography is certainly not easy, but I try and make it as easy to understand as possible. If there is anything I can do to help do not hesitate to reach out to me through commenting or directly. Thanks again for the kind words and I wish you the best.
Please continue to use your own voice. It's a sonorous, soothing, distinctive and clear instrument that you should be proud to possess. I'm jealous! Since I just bought my first DSLR camera, this particular video provided much desired and needed information. Many thanks for your attention to detail without getting so technical that you lose newbies like me. So looking forward to learning more from your videos.
Hi, Rob! Thanks for the nice words. I will be using my voice from now on, for sure. I think it suits the videos well and plus, it saves money on contracting someone to do it for me. Your story is really encouraging for me to continue making content. I really appreiciate when folks comment their success stories and how my videos helped; it's the thing that makes creating and editing these videos completely worth it. I wish you the best in your photography, take care!
Hi, I am a recent follower and I really do like your informative vids, this vid really made me learn new stuff about photography. You have a good voice, this was perfect for tutorials and if you do vlogs u can be more casual.
Audio is not bad however the learning video is great for me as novice into photography world amazing ! To further my knowledge decided to Subscribe to your channel recently purchased a canon eos rebel dslr sl2 it came in with kit lens and also purchased added lens canon 50mm f/1.8 and 24mm f/2.8 looking forward to see more tutorial / educational video from the pro !
Thank you for your kind words and welcome! I am glad you subscribed. I hope to produce the best educational photography content on TH-cam and am happy to have you on my team.
I'm a beginner, and I start to learn because my father give me his old Canon A-1 and my grandfather's Canon GIII QL. I'd love to learn more from you sir.. Cheers :)
Excellent presentation that I will recommend to my students to watch, your graphics are clear and simple. Funny that, when I was learning basic photography, over 50 years ago, the term “bokeh” did not exist, the speed of film was usually quoted in “ASA” units ( American Standards Association). The concept of “SNR” also was not even thought of, it was just “fast films are more grainy”.
The advent of the digital age has certainly ushered in some new terms into photography that haven't been adopted quite yet, which has led to some misnomers and semantical issues, which while ususally just a technicality, have actually caused harm and misled photographers into making poor decisions. The term "SNR" which you say is something fairly new is definitely one that most photographers haven't heard before but one that affects all digital images. The same can be said with "ASA" ratings and "ISO" ratings, which aren't "ratings" per sey but arbitrary amplification settings in the camera that are a relic from the days of film. That's why I created this video: to help people realize where we are in photography, what terms are relevant, and what they all mean from a technical, accurate standpoint.
It's my mission to help photographers like yourself. I hope you learned something and let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to reach out. Thanks!
Great video. Nice and clear explanations and very useful for beginners (like me) who are more technically minded. My only suggestion is maybe to have more of a pause between changing the main subjects. Also, I don’t see a link to the transcript in the description?
Both are fair criticisms. I will add the link in the description to the transcript now and yes, in future videos I do want to take more time to explain topics. I jump around only because some viewers complain that videos nowadays are made to fill a certain 10-minute timeframe and contain too much fluff and excess wording. I try to limit that and only give the audience what they need to hear, but I am still trying to find that balance.
As an old professional photographer (using 35 mm SLRs and medium format range finders), I find this content excellent . . . even though my focus is on the translation of modern digital photographic terminology to old-fashioned film photography. The pre-exposure stuff is nearly identical; post exposure--including ISO--is another matter. I keep trying to relate ISO to the old film speeds. I think I have figured it out. Thanks for the info on JPEG and RAW: that will help me! Still, I have a lot to learn. I have subscribed and hope to hear more. Incidentally, I slowed this down to a .75 playback speed, and it helped (me, at least). Maybe a few others could benefit from slowing the flow of facts down. Anyhow, Thumbs Up!
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad I could help you out! ISO is definitely one of the terms that didn't migrate well from film to digital; it's something I had to "re-wire" since I was so used to the mantra: "ISO is the sensitivity of the image sensor, etc. etc." I will try and slow down the videos in the future, thanks for that feedback. Take care.
Your explanation very good, background sound perfect it's not disturbing to the content, very good I subscribe you, I suppose I'll can get more with your channel
Yes, you're exactly right about ISO in digital cameras... in analog (film) cameas, ISO ratings represent the amount of physical light-sensitive crystals in the film that light up when exposed to light, creating "grain."
I'm confused about your choice of putting emphasis on T-stops over F-stops. I was taught that T stop was for video while F stop was for photography; but they both mean the same (aperture) in there respective media. I have yet to put F-stop in my photography vocab.
T-Stops are useful if you are looking for the highest transmission lens available for a given focal length. I bring this up only because I do a lot of astrophotography, and sometimes, when comparing identical f1.4 lenses, one may have a t-stop of 2.0 and another a t-stop of 1.5. Since I'm buying the f1.4 for its light gathering ability I would consider the t1.5 to be a better buy. It's a bit of a niche topic, but for certain scenarios it does matter.
At 9:37, you show the Pros/Cons of Auto a second time, where you intended to show the Pros/Cons of Shutter Priority Mode. No idea if TH-cam lets you fix re-upload without losing the views and likes?
Hello, I just subscribed your channel knowing about lots of positive comments and knowledge from you bro. I liked all the details, very comprehensive. Nice and thanks btw #ilovePhotography
Teaching Technical Photography Terms and used a new one himself at 10:21 "Sweet Spot of the Lens". If people don't know the basic photography terms how will they know what "Sweet Spot of the Lens" means?!
In the text box under "Aperture Priority Use Cases" it says Maintaining Depth of Field/Optimal Sharpness. Since I explicitly state the implication of DOF control, by deduction "Optimal Sharpness" would refer to the "sweet spot of the lens."
Apalapse Sir i Know what "Sweet spot of the lens" means. I am just thinking from the point of view of other people who don't know about that term. I just pointed out a very small negligible mistake in the video thats it. Its a great video though. I ain't your hater.
Also, your voice is great. Continue making rest of the videos in your voice. Also listening to the creaters voice also creates a connection between the content creator and the viewers. You also save money on voice overs. Win win situation.
No exaggeration: this is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Thank you.

The best explanation I´ve found so far. Great voice
Tahnk you!
Your voice is much more pleasing than the VAs. It has a natural feel, since it’s a normal voice and all that.
You did it brilliantly in your own voice and since I have seen some later videos, yes it’s working perfectly fine💪
These videos are outstanding! Exactly the way I want to review photography terms and concepts.
Thanks a lot, Drew. The feedback is really appreciate and motivates me to create more videos like these. I hope things are well with you and good luck with your photography. Let me know if you need anything.

Sounds like a good idea, i use aperture priority mode now rather than manual mode, as it helps me concentrate on composition.
All other channels need to learn from you. I taught i was about to give up photography ❤

Best of luck to you! I'll be uploading videos every month.
Excellent presentation that I will recommend to my students to watch, your graphics are clear and simple. Funny that, when I was learning basic photography, over 50 years ago, the term “bokeh” did not exist, the speed of film was usually quoted in “ASA” units ( American Standards Association). Great video, amazing work done and really helpful for a beginner photographer like myself.

Good video......easy to understand ......your voice is 👌😉
As an old professional photographer (using 35 mm SLRs and medium format range finders), I find this content excellent . . . even though my focus is on the translation of modern digital photographic terminology to old-fashioned film photography. one of the best video i have ever seen, Thank You
You are welcome!
This is a good video for a beginner photographer.
Your explanation very good, background sound perfect it's not disturbing to the content, very good I subscribe you, I suppose I'll can get more with your channel
Great vid, moved to fast for me as I was taking notes, but great info, thanks!
So in digital cameras iso is the amplification the image gets right? what is it in analog cameras? Thanks for your videos btw they are amazing.
Yes, you're exactly right about ISO in digital cameras... in analog (film) cameas, ISO ratings represent the amount of physical light-sensitive crystals in the film that light up when exposed to light, creating "grain."
FANTASTIC OVERVIEW!!! TY!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found the video helpful!
An excellent video. Thanks very much!
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
thanks so much i really learnt a lot with so much ease
Glad the video helped! Thanks for watching.
Your voice is great, I can’t wait for another video
Apalapse that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me. No one has brought this up before, so there was my confusion.
Thanks so much, I learned alot
Great video. Your voice is great!
Awesome vid, highly informative. Thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
At 9:37, you show the Pros/Cons of Auto a second time, where you intended to show the Pros/Cons of Shutter Priority Mode. No idea if TH-cam lets you fix re-upload without losing the views and likes?
Unfortunately not. These small mistakes often get overlooked and I can't do anything about them after-the-fact.
love this, great channel
This guy is the 3Blue1Brown of photography. Just superb.
Thank you. 3Blue1Brown is a great channel; honored to be compared to him.
You should hire your voice out to do others' voice-overs. Very clear explanations and onscreen information. Thanks!
the best video ever thank you very much
It was very helpful.. thanks.
Nice video, your voice is great! No need to contract anyone :)
Which software do u use for editing...? It's amazing
I use Adobe After Effects, thanks!
Hello, I just subscribed your channel knowing about lots of positive comments and knowledge from you bro. I liked all the details, very comprehensive. Nice and thanks btw

Great to hear. Thanks for subscribing.
A little fast but you did a great job explaining everything
You deserve at least 500k subscribers
Love it. Voice is also good
Teaching Technical Photography Terms and used a new one himself at 10:21 "Sweet Spot of the Lens".
