    I remember when I was a child my dad left me home alone to go on a date with his then girlfriend. As an apology he ordered me a Bigfoot pizza and bought 2 new games for my SNES. I ended up eating the entire thing while playing my games. I'll never forget that night.

    We lost many people during the 90s Giant Pizza War. Near the end, my younger sister decided to stay on the front lines. I retreated to a Famous Original Ray's enclave in the north. My sister and I both made it through, but still cannot talk about those times.

    Having worked at Domino's for a bit, the tracker is actually real time for the most part. At each station there is a computer that allows the employees to log which pizzas they are making or delivering to keep things organized. The "your pizza is in the oven" part starts when the first item they finished making is put into the oven. If it's just one pizza, it'll only take about 6 minutes to cook and get sliced and put into the box for delivery or pickup. Orders with lots of pizzas will take longer as the ovens can only fit about 6-8 pizzas at a time and multiple orders are prepared at a time. In most Domino's locations, every single pizza is inspected, cut, and boxed by the manager or long time employee to make sure each pizza is made as ordered. Pizzas do get remade if they aren't correct. I didn't mind that part because us employees got to eat the extra pizzas that didn't get sent out. As a highschool kid free pizza was a great job perk.

      My husband was a manager at the Domino's in our town, and told me nothing but horror stories about the owner of that one. Things that made me never eat or let my kids eat the food from that particular store. I don't have a problem with them as a whole, and have never had an issue eating at any other store. I just can't forget what I was told about that store

      @robertmccracken3763 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re right about it being manual. I will say it will depend on the store how accurate it is though. The store I worked at the manager would always mark pizzas as being sent by drivers waaaaaaayyy before they were even made during a rush. The amount of times I had customers complaining that I had been out with their pizza for 50 mins, when I had picked it up straight out of the oven just 10 mins ago. I would always throw the manager under the bus by telling them how it worked. That guy caused so many problems for us.
      I hated that job and was happy the day I tossed that uniform on the managers desk 😂

    I managed a Little Caesar's in the early 90's, K-Mart did a franchise deal with them and opened up a bunch of restaurants in the stores. The locations is was in those K-marts, were incredibly hard. We served breakfast pizza for employees and shoppers, a variety of Danishes (pre made), a bunch of stuff. We had hard ice cream, and had to make waffle cones daily, we had to make cookies daily. We also sold slices, but we had spaghetti with sauce, and lasagna we made in store. We also had sandwiches, not a lot, your basic ham and cheese, Italian style, a couple others. Some simple salads, add in a dining area, making coffee, Iced Tea, self serve soda fountain, and an Icee machine. It was a lot of moving parts. I forgot, need to make two public announcements an hour on the K-mart store wide system.
    Certain things we had to order from Blue Line the LC distributor, but other things I could do locally, like produce, etc. The focus on quality, internally and externally was extremely high. We did pepperoni bread, very labor intensive. They had a Caesar salad promotion. Crazy cheese (cream cheese and chives) with crazy bread. The products we put out were good. It was fun, we had very few complaints, the promotions came and went, and after about 18 months, they were sending me around to fix problem restaurants, using me as a training manager in grand openings, and didn't want to pay me for that. We parted ways on good terms.
    Maybe 2 years later I got hired by a corporate run restaurant, that was a complete nightmare, they had no standards (for the district I was in). What they were doing is why Little Caesar's is barely edible now. They skimped on everything, watered down sauce, shorting the weights on the dough balls, proofing time was arbitrary, pre sheeting the dough, less cheese, pepperoni stayed the same, people can count that, every other topping always told us to under weigh. It was run so bad, they did not know what to do, all of the locations in the area were closing.

    I came up in western Massachusetts, a place that still does party sized sheet pizzas like the old days. The kind that used to tape 2 large pizza boxes together to get it to fit the pie. It's a fad that never died there, though it did back off from the craziness of the wars. I still remember Liqouri's in West Springfield would offer a "crazy slice" which was a quarter of one of those pizzas for around $5. My 30 year old self would still take 3 servings to eat it all. When I moved away from there, I noticed that there were no "party size" pizzas anywhere and a lot of places do personal size instead.

  • @PyrosRubberDuck
    @PyrosRubberDuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Alright ill spill the beans. As a former Dominos GM, the only part of the pizza tracker that's a timer is the bake stage. That's always gonna be at 6 minutes no matter what. The "quality check" section is also bogus. It literally just means your food is sitting in the warmer until a driver picks it up. If your food is on "quality check" for a long time, no drivers are around to pick it up and it's just sitting there. The reason Domino's is #1 is because it exploits their managers so that most hours, its just one person running the entire store for a flat rate while Domino's absolutely reaps in all the profits since they only staff the kitchen for about 4-5 hours a day. Managers pull 60-80 hour work weeks and aren't given a budget to staff their stores to reduce this. It's sad that everyone thinks Domino's is a victor when really its just an exploiter. Some day the news will break..

    The sad thing (or maybe good thing) is that at least around me (in the midwest) Pizza Hut lost out to Little Caesars and Dominos. I mean it's probably for the better, as the last time I ate in both of the "local" Pizza Huts, the pizza was horrible. Almost like eating cheese of a piece of cardboard. I would still rank the top two to be Domino's as #1 and Little Caesar's as #2. But with Domino's recent promotions of $7 or $8 pizzas, I almost find it to be more worthwhile than the somewhat plain pizzas that Little Caesar's offers for $6 (which is really only 3 types: cheese, sausage and pepperoni. If you want anything more, it adds to the cost to a point where you might as well get Dominos, which IMO tastes better than Little Caesars.)

    Little Caesars was able to claw back from that late 90s decimation via doing what they were known best; cheap pizza. Only they decided to offer their pizza at a flat price: $5 (at the time in the late 2000s) for a pizza that could either be made ready for you or was available "Hot and Ready" most times of the day for quick and instant carryout. And, slowly but surely, they were able to bounce back.

    EDIT - McDonald's and Pizza Hut were number 1. Burger King and Domino's were no. 2. Dispite being no. 3, Wendy's and Little Ceasar's caught up quickly...
    EDIT - Little Ceasar's, like Wendy's, offered more food - the burger patties were bigger and square shaped, while the pizzas were more plentiful...

    Back in the 90s, long before they improved their recipes and ingredients, many people I knew referred to Domino's Pizza as "Death Disks". I liked them and Little Caesars about equally, but I liked Pizza Hut much more. My favorite pizza chain, however, was a regional one called La Rosa's, which is located in and near Ohio. It's about the only thing I miss about living there. As far as the giant pizzas, the only one I ever personally tried was the Bigfoot Pizza, and I was unimpressed, as the quality seem to be a big step down from the Hut's normal standards.

      The ingredients were the same, but they were very spread out. We put more ingredients on 2 regular pies than went on a whole Bigfoot, so there was definitely less flavor in each slice. They also had thinner dough, and even with thinner dough they usually didn't cook properly.

I actually stopped eating pizza altogether for about 2 years because of this (ha, imagine a kid burned out on pizza). As I got older I realized this was a cheap way for hosts to feed a crowd. I also remember when Little Ceasars disappeared from our area in the mid-90s, they didn't come back until around 2007. Now I know why! Dominoes did a great job revamping itself with better ingredients, it has really set itself apart now.

      @@christiangonzales7429 I worked for Dominos on and off again throughout the 2000s and returned during COVID until Last Spring, I can tell you what happened, Dominos has changed their Recipes TWICE since their Inception in 1960. The First was in 1994, and the second was 2009. The Reason why everything completely changed in 2009, because the ingredients being used by '05 were extremely mediocre, and because the Oil Prices were really cutting into the budgets as Dominos back then used to take 10% of the Delivery Driver's Mileage.
      Dominos from 1960-1994 had a Round Table Pizza(An Oakland,CA based Pizza Chain) like Recipe. Their Menu was also Substandard, but they prided their Brand on Fast Free Delivery, the "30 Minutes or Less" was no Joke and lasted ALL the way until 1992. Dominos in the 80s Revolutionized Pizza Delivery(Pizza Hut didn't even Introduce Delivery Service until May of 1985!) and were ahead of the curve in Delivery Tactics.
      In December 1993 after 33 years, Dominos' Founder Tom Monahgan stepped down as CEO. and Founder due to 2 Wrongful Death Lawsuits regarding Fatal Crashes involving Delivery Drivers in 1989 and 1990 that was blamed on the company's "30 Minutes or Less" policy, with his departure, Domino's Ridded themselves of his old Recipe and started looking at ways to cut budget, Dominos also expanded its Menu(Buffalo Wings,Thin Crust and Deep Dish) and implemented new Marketing Tactics even launching its own Website on August 11,1995.
      In October 2005, about 6 weeks after Hurricane Katrina, the Pizza Delivery Business decided to go for broke and Add Delivery Charge to combat the Rising and Extreme Oil Prices and Crazy Gas Prices, EVERY major Chain decided this as 2005 marked the END of Free Delivery for Major Pizza Brands. By then, Dominos which had started IPO Trading on March 1,2004, were using Lackluster Ingredients from its 1994 Recipe, Dominos By '05 was relying heavily on its "555" promotion, By Late 2008, despite the Introduction of Desserts like Lava Cake and Oven Baked Sandwiches(Cinnasticks had launched in Early '01), Things weren't looking too good for the Brand or Company as Same Store Sales were down, In April 2009, Dominos was hit with a PR Nightmare when a Drugged out Methheaded Husband and Wife Couple who ran a Dominos Store in Durham,NC posted a TH-cam Video of themselves spitting in food, putting Snot in it, placing the Dough under their Armpits and talking about Urinating and Defecating in it. The Video caused people to falsely assume that Dominos Stores had POOR health code guidelines, it was so dire for Dominos that not only were the Couple immediately FIRED and BANNED from working for Dominos ever again shortly after the video's release, they were ARRESTED and put in Jail. The Meth couple kept insisting it was just a harmless prank and that they did not serve any of the food on the video to anyone, stating they made the video while the Store was Closed, Dominos themselves had to Upload a YT Statement on a Video defending their Brand and stating out right that they had fired the Couple and will do BETTER in Vetting managers at their stores.
      Current CEO Patrick Doyle realized something had to be done. Feedback Corporate Dominos was receiving regarding OA and CSR from Customers gradually berating Dominos, calling it "Cheap", "Lousy", and "Mediocre", it was then decided in May 2009 that the ENTIRE Recipe needed a Complete Overhaul, and the first order of Business was to do away with the Expensive Deep Dish, The 2nd Order was to Change the Garlic and Butter Bases being used, and the 3rd and final Order was to Do away with the Pizza Sauce Recipe that Tom Monahgan had created and pioneered 49 years ago, the New Sauce Recipe was going to be Zestier and have a special kick to it.
      On December 3,2009 Dominos launched this New Recipe and a new Self Deprecating Advertising Campaign called "Turnaround", It was a Surprise Success for Dominos. Completely turning their fortunes around. As it currently stands, Dominos has remained the #1 Pizza Delivery Chain since 2011 and it hasn't let up since then.
      I can let you in on its Secret: Since late '09, Dominos uses a Special Garlic Blend Sauce for its Hand Tossed Dough.
