One aspect of this discussion that I have many more questions about - finding the “right fit” in a medical school. Dr. Amiri and Dr. Hagemann talked about this extensively. They emphasized not only gaining admission to any med school, but rather gaining admission to one that fits the individual. I’m in the process of applying this cycle, and I wish I have more information on how to find the right fit. Not only that, but having the proper amount of time to do so. As an upcoming senior in undergrad, I’m struggling to complete my primary apps in a timely manner - let alone do research on the specific mission and resources that each medical school has to offer. Since it was made very clear in this talk that the speakers value finding an applicant that fits the school, do you think that the average age of matriculation will continue to rise? As I stated before, I’m on the path at the moment to avoid taking a gap year and begin medical school the fall after graduating college. Ultimately, does this lower my chances of gaining admission? It would make sense that younger applicants are more naive and less aware of the general idea of actually finding the “right fit”. Very interesting conversation that I wish was expanded on in this talk.

Making medical school admissions a writing contest has made it a detriment for many capable students from getting into medical school. The mere fact that we are talking about people finding shortcuts for writing should cause introspection within the medical admissions community. The other new road to hell is the "social justice" lens on everything.

This was a GREAT session. Dr. Mehta, this is the first time i've heard you anywhere, but you IMMEDIATELY gained my respect and admiration. The description of AI potentially leveling the playing field for under-resourced students was fantastic!
