I want everyone to know there was Christmas music playing at the creation museum the whole time we were there, over all the boat and dino sounds. Just like 4 songs, over and over. Truly hellish.

I tried to visit the Ark Museum a couple of years ago as I was driving home to Lexington from Cincinnati. At the time, it was $100 per person and my boyfriend and I were visiting as a joke and decided not to spend the money to go in. But we were still charged a $10 parking fee just for entering the parking lot which was not that much smaller than the parking lot at Kings Island (or any other amusement park). From someone that didn't even make it past the parking lot, the whole place has a very weird and ominous vibe.

I actually remember the movie Baby. I was a young teenager when I saw it. I just remember at the time thinking it would be cool if dinos really still existed in the human-untouched part of our planet, but thought the movie did its job of reinforcing why I never wanted to find out if they existed because of what the end result would be. And that's what I walked away thinking the movie was about. (Because I did cry. With Disney, I always cry on cue with the music.) Same with Jurassic Park. We all want dinos, but we know it's dangerous to think that way....

Thank you so much for sharing these perspectives about the ark "museum" and being open about how you were raised, Greg. It means a lot to me who is also a recovering creationist interested in the paranormal and weird. I was also so happy with Dana's assessment that she hated it. Fun Fact: the reason why Ken Ham mentions Bill Nye so much is because Bill Nye had a mental break down during the construction of the "museum" and challenged Ken Ham to multiple public debates (though I am not sure that Ken Ham participated), but he did tour the Ark and basically just ripped it apart the entire time. That was when Bill Nye kind of came back into the public spotlight again, I hadn't heard anything about him since like 90s and grade school and suddenly Bill Nye was in my home state talking mad shit.

The discussion at the end and mentioning the natives not really understanding what the people searching for it are asking about reminds me of a scene from the movie Arrival. The main character tells a story of the first white people going to Australia and seeing this weird hopping thing with a pouch, so they ask the locals what it is and they say "kangaroo". What they didn't realize is kangaroo actually translates to "I don't understand". Its not a real story, but the point is that misinterpretation of language can change how we look at and study things.
Great episode as always! Love how fun yall have been having this these.

Thanks to this podcast I have realized that I was also raised as a New Earth Creationist. We were taught that climate change was natural and that the earth was around 4000 years old. Dinosaur bones were placed in the earth to “test your faith”. All these things were taught to me AT school, IN science class. Lately I’ve been realizing just how crazy I could’ve ended up. Arguably it’s crazy to believe in aliens and whatnot but I’d still rather be that type than think that dinosaur bones are fake.

An interesting side note to this is the Sirrush dragon depicted on the Ishtar gate in Babylon was allegedly captured by Nebuchadnezzer II during an expedition to the same general area of Africa as mokele-mbembe is supposed to be found. The Sirrush is also allegedly the dragon kept in the Temple of Bel by Nebuchadnezzar II in the biblical story of Daniel vs the dragon. Daniel poisons and kills the Sirrush in an attempt to prove it is nothing more than a living creature and not a God. If any of this is true, someone may expect to be able to hunt down the bones of the dead Sirrush somewhere close by, as I imagine it would be hard to easily dispose of something that massive. Carbon dating would answer a lot of questions about how far into modern times a dragon could exist....or not. BTW, I am not a YEC. I'm just super fascinated in cryptozoology and the paranormal.

My dad is an electrical contractor. I was helping him run some wires in a earthen floored crawl space underneath a Mason's hall. Way down at the back corner I found a flat stone about 12 by 18 inches on it was a cat skull and black wax drips that looked like they came from candles. I didn't like the who scene so I took the skull and put in in a yogurt container I had from lunch to bring somewhere and bury. Before I left work, torrential rains started and being tired and dirty I decided to do it another day. In the two days I had it in my possession both of my cats died. Rip Jeff and jasper. And I took it at 3 in the morning to a forest and buried it in the middle of a storm.

We grew up in a weird church environment that was Young Earth Creationist but didn’t really talk about it, and my parents weren’t super strict about it. But I had a book cuz I was a dinosaur kid called “Dinosaurs By Design” that had an entire section about Mokele-mbembe and the idea of a dinosaur still being alive was the coolest thing ever.
Plus the book had a bunch of great watercolor illustrations of dinosaurs along side people in biblical times that never even registered with me as a Creationist thing, I didn’t even know what that was as a kid, I just thought they were fucking sick pictures of people fighting dinosaurs. There were also illustrations of fish turning into lizards that were mocking the theory of evolution now that I think back, but i didn’t understand them so they didn’t make an impression on me lol

When we went to the Creation Museum, the thing that stood out to me is how the staff talked to us. Like, someone pointed to a hallway and said tickets were down there, which we understood, but then the staff member tried to convince and reassure us OVER AND OVER that she promised the tickets were just past the hallway even though we can’t see it. Then again with the bathrooms, talking to us as if we couldn’t handle basic instructions to the out of sight bathrooms. It’s clear they deal with a lot of people who can’t trust something they’re told without evidence, and yet…?

Greg fist pumping on the merry go round was a particular highlight lol 😂
I found your collective closing comments to be very interesting and also along my own lines of thinking. You often hear cryptozoologists wanting/asking for the scientific community to take the subject more seriously but in some instances get very upset with anyone taking a measured and objective (and somewhat sceptical) approach to the matter.
I personally find a healthy amount of scepticism while remaining open minded to something existing a decent balance.
Thank you for sharing this brilliant second part to this interesting piece. Best wishes to all the team and your families.
