Hey!! Thanks for your channel. Before placing my build order in October, I found your channel. You have been very helpful with your review and updates to help me make an informed purchase. Also, you have answered questions without going to my local dealer. Anyway, I've been updated my production week in January 16th. My build is a Caffeine Metallic (Meatloaf) 3LT. I love the color. Anxious to get it. Was going to have the Museum Delivery and drive through to see you on my way back to Las Vegas. I was not feasible due to time. Well, I will keep you updated. Rick, pulled the thread protective covers on my rear shocks. The threads were horribly corroded. People that park their cars outside have a strong possibility of this occurring. The rubber cap holds moisture in. People check these rubber thread caps fore and aft on your shocks. It was shocking.

LOL just a out of the box thought.. unless you get a strap on the side that is jacked up, attached it to a stationary post to keep it from sliding just another out of the box thought. LOL!!!
The ticking noise is common amongst all LS engines, of which the LT is a derivative. It's the pushrods moving up and down on the lifters. I've heard it referred to as a sewing machine sound and that's how I hear it. Typically most pronounced around 1500 to 2000 rpm. It on it's own is not necessarily a sign of anything beginning to fail, but it does drive my Dad, who has an acute sense of sound for stuff like that, crazy. When I fixed the heads in my LS7 in my C6Z, I upgraded the whole valvetrain while I was in there, to a custom ground TSP 8620 Carburized Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum steel alloy camshaft, TSP hardened pushrods, PSI valve springs, CHE bronze trunnion upgrade on the rocker arms, and Johnson 2110 lifters that GM uses on the COPO Camaro's. I think I all but eliminated any remaining LS sewing machine sound in that motor, but that of course is a little on the extreme side.
Something to remember on the alignment and tracking, If you run street alignment and track, you will wear your tire outer edges out much faster, basically the opposite of the track alignment on street driving wearing out the inner edges..
The deck vent on the HTC doesn’t suck air it, it vents it out. Either way, he is restricting air. My guess is he just started it up for too short of a time.
I like the comment of “you want it right, or right now.” It reminds me of one we used when I was in the hotel design business, “Price, quality or time. Pick any two.”
“You can tell me anything you want but the car always tells the truth.” Quote from Chuck star ⭐️ of Tech Tuesday but let’s not forget Rick the heart 💜 of tech Tuesday. Rick please start creating a list of these quotes; I started as I’m happy to be ghost 👻 writer for that book you guys must write! I bet it would be big seller!). Let’s begin the process!
That's a very good (and wise) suggestion. Track use can be hard on cars (depending on several factors) and is even harder on tires. And tires for both the C7 (a ZR1 in my case) and the C8 are expensive and can also be hard to find depending on the time of year. I'm referring to the PS Cup2 and Cup2R.
@@lightfighter4evr Agree, I just need to find one that can be attached to the PDR camera on the back of the rear view mirror. That will be the hard part.
I’ll be visiting Chuck and Rick this Spring. Had to get first service done. Dealer gave 2 LIter or Quarts to me and didn’t install! Anything I should be concerned with? I think it was a nice thing to do.
James, FWIW, Paul Koerner, the top GM Corvette mechanic, said that the extra fluid is needed if you are pulling continuous or repetitive strong lateral Gs as on a track.
I think it would be to GM's advantage to have a daily or weekly podcast to address allot of the issues, misinformation and drama about this car. Have a team of people including engineers doing a question/answer as well as PR. Never seen so much drama over a Corvette...crazy stuff.
@@RickCorvetteConti there's one particular TH-camr that is verbally destroying GM and the car. The guy is obsessed with his compulsive thoughts. Never seen anything like it...I have a tuned 96 LT-1 Z-51 car. Love your content, thank you!
I tried to get a track alignment on my 2023 C8, took it to a dealer in the greater Milwaukee, WI area only to get a call an hour later telling me they couldn't set the caster on the front tires because they didn't have bar, plate to attach to the "knuckle" and a digital angle meter. I couldn't believe it. Had several other dealers who told me they could do it until I asked about the bar for the knuckle and a digital angle meter. So I didn't get the track alignment but took the car to three HPDE (high performance driver education) events and had a great time. I have never driven a car on a race track so I didn't need the track alignment and I wasn't trying out for the Penske racing team :-). I did notice a small amount of tire wear, heat cycles on the outside edge of the tires after the third event that probably wouldn't be present if I would have the track alignment with 3 deg of camber on the front tires. I currently have about 2000 miles on the car.
I was wondering about changing the fluid in my C7 ZO6, M7. It seems like the fluid draining out of the cooler and trying to get the right amount back in would be difficult. I know I have what it considered an old outdated car, but it’s what I have.
Your C7 is neither old nor outdated. I have C7 ZR1 ZTK and have no issue humbling some C8 drivers on the nearest road course. Honestly, it's seldom about the car. Driver experience/skill is what matters most. In fact I know some who could humble me if they were driving a Volvo station wagon. ;) Ever try and race a 7 y/o on a tricycle? Yes, that means you are also on a Tricycle. Btw, I suggest a mouth guard and a helmet =:0
Hi Rick, Just a quick comment regarding the videos. Several times Chuck refer to "DTC". Is he really meaning DCT? Can the technical advise be edited for accuracy?
Watched video of process to add fluid through wheel well approach. Easily done with car not tilted at all. Used fluid infuser loaded with the two quarts of transmission fluid. DIY job done in less than 30 minutes. Tire and wheel well easy to remove. Only had to wipe a couple of drops of fluid from access port when done. Not trying to second guess Chuck, but as a layperson, this seemed much easier. Yes, you do need some form of fluid infuser with appropriate length hose and fitting.
Park on a grassy Slope and climb in the trunk to reach the DCT plug. sorry Chuck you might be to big to get in trunk. On the HTC you might need a sky hook like Tom Cruse in Mission Impossible in the vault scene! That of remove the truck lid and never get it back like it came from the factory!
I have a 2009 AUTOMATIC. After the car sits a few hours if you start the car and put I drive it is a VERY hard shift into drive. Other than that it shifts fine. Ont to drive. I serviced the Trans. Fluid and filter looked great. Smelled like atf should. Several people on the forums have the same issue. I am thinking software update? Any thoughts?
Good morning Rick and Chuck, I just took my C8 for a track alignment in a Chevy dealership. My question is when o went to pick up the car I had washers in my cup holder, I ask the mechanic why the washers where there and he told me they need to be removed for track alignment. I thought they will need to be relocated on the control arm. A feedback Will be very. Much appreciated. Thanks
With regard to the C8 there are no washers or other items that need to be removed in preparation for track use. That said, the following are what GM says should be done prior to track use: !.) Return the tire pressure settings to factory (see the Tire and Loading Information label located below the door latch with the door open). 2.) Return the wheel alignment settings to factory. 3.) Replace oil (use only engine oil licensed to the dexos1TM specification of the proper SAE- viscosity grade). 4.) Replace brake fluid (DOT-4 Hydraulic Brake Fluid). 5.) Rotate the Driver Mode Selector out of Track mode. 6.} Return to production trim height.
Inaccurate btw. You can get over 2 quarts in at 10 degrees and you can do it with esco stands. The car cannot "teeter" on two stands or even just one placed at the rear. Its literally in the gm tech procedure for how youd change a tire??? The 2nd drain plug is on the side of the transmission btw so you never get under the car. I have literally never seen this done with a floor jack in the center of the car. Theres no jack point there.
I’ve been told by my local mechanic that there’s a chance that the car air bags may deploy because the car thinks you are about to roll the car like In an accident!!! What do y’all think?
Airbags don't go off from a rollover much less from jacking the car up. They go off when very specific impacts are going to happen where they would be useful such as when front end and side collision sensors are triggered. You could turn the car over and place it on its roof and they won't go off
@@bhvrdr There are TH-cam videos of airbags going off at track events. The 5th Gen Camaros were known for this. The car had to go into a very specific slide or yaw and the side curtain bags were deploying. No impact, but the car thought an impact or rollover was imminent.
@@LS1424 that should never ever happen though. Thats a problem. You literally have 200 Corvettes used for track only purposes at Ron Fellows Corvette school. They never leave the track and theyve never had an airbag deployment. Its something so rare you can only find a handful of stories. That said this is literally just jacking up your car 10 degrees. Its no different than the way youd change a wheel out.
At 10 degrees you would not be able to put in the additional two quarts!! I was really hoping Chuck could address this situation. And if it has only happened a couple of times I do not want to be one of them 😝
@@jamesstarling7273 ive literally done it at 9 degrees and videod it showing the angle on the trunk. Its as easy as changing a tire. ??? wait you think airbags have gone off from jacking up the car now? The irony is the only time we've seen a c8 damaged is when the Corvette technicians did put it all the way up on the lift and it fell off lol
Guys please let me help you write the book of C8 Tips and Tricks! Or whatever. You already have a book of knowledge you just need a writer like me! Call me! Your stormtrooper Star Wars friend! TECH TUESDAY question: (recently submitted this is repeat): Since I had to get the first oil change/transmission filter, I was provided free of charge 2 quarts/liters whatever of transmission fluid. I don’t think any topping off occurred as it has relatively low miles. WhT gives?
Hi Rick, My name is Jae. Thanks, I really enjoy your c8 podcasts. I have a '22 c8 z51. It's been my daily for about 1.5 years with almost 22k. Miles. I have 2 questions that I don't think it came across your tech Tuesday. 1. This is something I've noticed when turning sharp at a crawling speed in 2nd gear. I'm hearing a slight grinding noise from the back in 2nd gear. Definitely coming from the rear axle or transmission. I think it's from the rear axle gear. With a sharing of the lighter weight DCT oil for the rear gears, and the difference in the axle rotation is making this noise. Is this common with the rear engine DCT where lighter weight is used for both DCT and the rear axle? I know it's a compromise to use the lighter oil to protect the DCT first and the Rear gears, second. Does GM know about this issue? It doesn't make this griding noise this when I completely stop the car, and the DCT goes into the 1st. Gear. This may be something that is inherent in the DCT/gear design that maybe average drivers really doesn't know or to care about since this doesn't happen too often except when faced with a daily occurrence on their driveway. 2. Does this mean what metal particles from the rear gear are exposed to the DCT and its filters (cartridge and the pan filter) as well? I guess this issue can be fixed by recognizing the road condition and putting it in 1st. Before proceeding . However, I am concerned that this will cause a long term damage to either the DCT or the rear gear.
Hi Rick, Here is one more question. Why is it necessary to run and curculte the dct oil before the dct cartridge change. Doesn't driving the car and going through the gears circulate the oil and trap the particles? Either in its pan filter or the cartridge filter.
Corvette are very dangerous 8 years ago my co-worker died under his C6. Changing the oil floor jack collapsed then the car crushed him to death. Don’t be cheap take your corvette to a shop. Pay the extra money!
wow, so sad to hear thanks for sharing!
Or you can buy “Race Ramps or quick jacks and support your car the safe way. Have you seen the price of 0W-40 ESP lately! It’s doubled in a year.
As Chuck says...
"You want it done right, or do you want it done right now?"
You pay all that money for a work of art, then don't be cheap.
That sad and that as Chuck might say: “Don’t listen to my warnings and something bad WILL happen.”
I think you mean to say floor jacks can be dangerous not Corvettes. Never rely on a floor jack alone to keep a car lifted. Stands should be used.

WhT gives?
Just DON'T DO IT!!
LISTEN TO CHUCK!!
Take it to the dealer , it's under warranty.
only a moran would do that. total click bait which i hate
Can imagine why anyone would think it’s safe and a good idea to lift one side of the C8 in order to add fluid to the DCT. 🧐 👎🏻
To much BS - get to the point
Hi Rick,
My name is Jae.
Hi Rick,
Here is one more question.
Why is it necessary to run and curculte the dct oil before the dct cartridge change. Doesn't driving the car and going through the gears circulate the oil and trap the particles? Either in its pan filter or the cartridge filter.
@@JKim-hb5ry I’ll save this for a future tech Tuesday - tomorrow nights already filmed thank you
