Fancy by Reba McEntire, It's Your Love by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Concrete Angel by Martina McBride, Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.
Pancho and Lefty by Townes Van Dantz is just one that comes to mind. Strangley no Carter family or Jimmie Rodgers song on your list. And you appear to be restricting it to one song per artist. Which would mean, there are at least 29 better songs in Country Music than Hank Williams second best song! But, I still loved the video 😁
@@biosinger Forever and ever amen was written by Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet and produced by Kyle Lehnning and released by Warner Brothers in 1987 and it top the country charts and stayed at #1 for three straight weeks! It should have been included.

Both excellent choices, but I would choose Three Wooden Crosses or Deeper Than The Holler over Forever and Ever Amen. Just my personal preference, as he has so many beautiful songs
You CANNOT have a top country songs list without a single entry from Alabama. Mountain Music is my all time favorite, and they have numerous other great ones as well.

Truly wonder why people do this. Not just you please don't think I'm attacking. But shouldn't the viewer watch for themselves? Why give it all away? Truly a curious watcher
@@samkingsway6564 It's mainly for people like me who don't want to watch the whole thing. I'm just curious as to what songs they put in this video but I don't want to watch the whole thing so this one comment saves me half an hour.
Where were you when the world stop turning isn’t even close to Alan Jackson’s best song. I get it. They want to use one that dealt with 9/11, but I feel like Courtesy of the Red White and Blue did a way better job at that. There are plenty of other way more iconic Alan Jackson songs they could’ve used. Personally, I would’ve used It’s 5 o Clock Somewhere. Goodbye Earl doesn’t deserve to be anywhere close to the top 30 of all time Catchy song, but come on now. Let’s be serious. Then again I can’t think of anything else of theirs to put in this list 🤷♂️ There are a few on this list that I’ve legit never heard of. Mostly as you get closer to number 30. Of course I’ve heard Chris Stapleton, and I’m not saying he don’t belong in here. I’d honestly put him a little higher on the list tbh.
"I Will Always Love You" ... Dolly Parton "Who's Ever In New England" ... Reba "Live Like You Were Dying" ... Tim McGraw "I Wonder" ... Kelli Pickler "Crying" ... KD Lang "Kiss This" ... Aaron Tippin "Boot Scootin' Boggie" ... Brooks & Dunn and the country song that made history when despite peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, was the #1 song of 2000 ... "Breathe" ... Faith Hill
Okay, for those who don't know music at all. The arrangement, tempo, and baseline for Chris Stapleton's (Tennessee Whiskey) comes from Etta James. It's her song (I'd Rather Go Blind).
It sounds weirdly similar yet very different. The whole back beat tempo and all is found all over the place. Ed Sheeran’s recent law suite showed that there’s only so many chords and changes that can be made n popular music. Country music is actually the same way.
Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Cambell, This Cowboy's Hat by Chris Ledoux, Mountain Music by Alabama, Chiseled in Stone by Vern Gosdin, I Will Always Love You by Dolly, When I Call Your Name by Vince Gill, Where Have You Been by Kathy Mattea... so many great classics!
John Conlee and Randy Travis are the only talented artists amongst those you listed that aren't racist bastards. I'm not saying Whitley and Brooks and Dunn aren't racist but they certainly lack talent.
Not sure if I’d make it #1 but definitely on the list. David Allen Coe - You Never Even Called Me By My Name It is the perfect Country and Western Music!! 😂
Wonderful job on the video Watchmojo and Ryan's narration is always on point. My top 5 country songs of all time. 1. He stopped loving her today. George Jones. 2. You look so good in love. George Strait. 3. Hello Darlin. Conway Twitty 4. Hurt. Johnny Cash 5. I will always love you. Dolly Parton and Tennessee Whiskey. Chris Stapleton.
Fun video. Some additions on my list: Kitty Wells- Each Day, Tim McGraw-Don't Take The Girl, Doby Gray- Drift Away, Gillian Welch- Whiskey Girl, Mickey Gilley- Lookin For Love, The White Buffalo- Damned
So glad to see Charley Pride included! I listened to him when I was little. I would demand my parents put the record on every Sunday. Sunday was special each week. We listened to a bunch, that I would pick, (hey I was 3!) Band we would listen to them while eating breakfast. Also, when walking into our reception after our wedding ceremony, it was to "Ring of Fire!"😂😂😂 How can you not love the mariachi horns!?😂😂😂
Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood and Shania Twain are my favourite country singers 🩷🩷 also I am glad that my favourite songs from them are on this list 😊😊
I appreciate the effort to remember the roots of country music but to have a top 30 list and exclude Alabama, Reba, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, and Randy Travis seems off. Let's make this the top 35 and include: Fancy - Reba Song of the South - Alabama Brooks & Dunn - Neon Moon Don't take the Girl - Tim McGraw Forever and Ever, Amen - Randy Travis
I was also thinking that Whiskey Lullaby should've been at least an honorable mention, because Brad Paisley & Allison Krauss's vocals blend so well together, and the story the song tells is amazing
I’m glad someone recognized Vern Gosdin and his beautiful velvet voice. Chiseled in Stone is a beautiful and poignant song. Another favorite of his songs is Set ‘Em Up Joe. I was very sad when he passed away.
@@paulaisomura4894 couldn’t agree more. He’s probably one of the most underrated country singers I can think of. Chiseled in stone is so beautiful and ‘Is it raining at your house’ might be one of my favorites he’s done.
Trying to make a list of greatest songs is impossible because not only is it very subjective, but you also have 80 years worth of source material. I think you hit the artists that must be included and their most iconic songs, but not necessarily their best. I would have put Bob Wills in and taken Country Roads out. John Denver crossed over into country, but he was a folk singer. My self-indulgent choice would be “You never even called me by my name” by Davis Alsn Coe. It is indeed the perfect country music song. 😉
From my Spotify country playlist. Mostly 1960s, and a lot of country-crossover. New York City boy who's now living surrounded by cotton fields and peanuts for 50 miles in any direction. 1. Broken hearted me (Anne Murray) [my favorite song of any genre] 2. Could I have this dance? (Anne Murray) 3. East bound and down (Jerry Reed - theme from my favorite movie!) 4. Take this job and shove it (Johnny Paycheck) 5. Every day I have to cry (Steve Alaimo) 6. I still miss someone (Johnny Cash) 7. Somebody's always sayin' goodbye (Anne Murray) 8. All my exes live in Texas (George Strait) 9. Six days on the road (Dave Dudley) 10. Wolverton Mountain (Claude King) 11. Once a day (Connie Smith, composed by Bill Anderson) 12. Fool #1 (Brenda Lee) 13. Big bad John (Jimmy Dean) 14. Act naturally (Buck Owens) 15. Flowers on the wall (Statler Brothers) 16. What's made Milwaukee famous (Jerry Lee Lewis) 17. I had a country band from 2002- 2008. One night this naive young lady came up to the bandstand and requested El Paso. While I grew up enjoying the song on the radiio, doing it justice performing it was difficult. The lyrics could require more than one typed page and it would be easy to get distracted and lose my place. So, when this request came up, I discovered a way to squelch it. I would say, "If I play this song for you, you have to dance the entire song." It's a fast waltz that would take the breath away from a cross-country sprinter. I recall that in that time we only played it once and I loved watching the couple getting out of breath. After the song, they sat down and didn't dance for an hour. It was really clever to avoid the disaster of messing up the lyrics.
@@allenhuffman3380 you can think anyone is better than the Beatles cause you have every right to be wrong! But you haven't named any bands and you certainly couldn't name any that contributed more to music history and the industry than the Beatles!
@@thebeatlesloveisallyouneed possibly, you are correct we’re all entitled to be wrong. But Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Temptations, the Sherelles, the Doors, CCR(with John Fogerty), Dylan, Stones, Johnny Freakin Cash, I can list a ton of groups that have just as much for rock music as the Beatles, heck Garth Brooks, has even out sold the Beatles. The music industry never thought that would happen. Personally I believe John Lennon, Paul were better solo artists. But hey that’s just my opinion, as you put it. But hey fella I ain’t arguing because it’s all good music. But the video was about COUNTRY MUSIC NOT ROCK!!!! Love and Respect, God Bless
@@allenhuffman3380 hey man I can see what your saying but popularity and cultural importance are not necessarily the same! There are many popular artists like Andy warhal but they are still no Davinci! That's not an insult to them but they haven't contributed to the art world or world history like Leonardo Davinci! New artist today may outsell the Beatles and be more popular but you can't really base sales on modern music platforms today that didn't exist when the Beatles were around like Spotify! And the newest artist are generally going to be the most popular naturally cause there the newest hottest item! But the kings of a genre are not just about popularity but innovation, pioneering and musical contributions! Or at least I'm making an argument that it should! But even older rock bands like the rolling stones and queen are amazing! But I wouldn't call them the kings even though I think there's more of an argument for them then Elvis! The Beatles were such a unique phenomenon that I think they deserve to at least be considered!
@@thebeatlesloveisallyouneed not saying they shouldn’t. But I guess Michael Angelo ain’t that great either. But it’s all in the eye of the beholder. That’s why this world is so awesome. Because if we were all the same there wouldn’t be crap to talk about. Lol
Very disappointed Reba McEntire wasn't on this list. The woman ruled 90's country and continued to be a defining force in the genre in the 2000's with her classic sitcom and her single, "I'm a Survivor". I would've loved to have seen her 1994 single, "She Thinks His Name Was John" on the list
When I was growing up there were three albums and only three albums in the house... The Best of Hank Williams... The Best of Hank Snow... The Best of Eddy Arnold... the one radio we had was tuned to a country station and nobody touched it. It was on every night when we went to bed in a two-bedroom house where my parents had a bedroom and I shared a room with two little sisters...
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Merle Haggard's Okie from Muskogee or John Anderson's Swingin'. I was also thinking of a list of best country songs by women. Some thoughts: Kitty Wells Honky Tonk Angel Patsy Cline Crazy Anything by Loretta or Dolly. Really. They both beautifully evoked the inner lives of regular people in their songs. If pressed to pick one for each, it's Coal Miner's Daughter and Jolene (or Coat of Many Colors), respectively. Carter Family (well, mostly female) - Will the Circle Be Unbroken Tammy Wynette Stand By Your Man Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe Dottie West - Country Sunshine Tanya Tucker - Delta Dawn Barbara Mandrell - Sleeping Single in a Double Bed Juice Newton - The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known) Deborah Allen - Baby I Lied Roseanne Cash - Seven Year Ache Patty Loveless Timber I'm Falling in Love The Judds - Grandpa Wynonna Judd - Tell Me Why. Hard to pick just one, she's got so many great songs. Pam Tillis - Maybe It Was Memphis Reba McEntire - Fancy Martina McBride - Independence Day Trisha Yearwood - She's In Love with the Boy Faith Hill - Wild One (I actually prefer It's Your Love, but that's a duet with Tim) Jo Dee Messina - Heads Carolina, Tails California Shania Twain - Any Man of Mine Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance Sara Evans Born to Fly Dixie Chicks (now just "The Chicks) Wide Open Spaces; close second Cowboy Take Me Away I stopped listening to country music after the whole Toby Keith/Dixie Chicks feud and can't say much about recent acts, so don't get on me about leaving out Taylor Swift.
I have been reading comments...and have not seen Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, or poop!?! It eludes me...Jeannie C. Riley I believe is her name..and Bobby Gentry. Not all had decades long careers, but they had a huge impact.
I wouldn’t call myself the biggest country music fan but there are a few I have in mind that are missing: Tennessee Waltz is an absolute classic. I don’t know how you can talk about country music without mentioning that song. I also like the Chicks’ version of Traveling Soldier.
You missed: Tex Ritter, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Alabama, Oakridge Boys, Statler Brothers, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Buck Owens, Crystal Gale, Eddie Rabbitt, and many others!! 🤣 🤣
While many subscribers of this channel may have differing Top-30 Greatest Country Song lists. One thing is for sure. "The Dance" by Garth Brooks will definitely be on 99% of them.
Here’s my list of top artists: Brooks & Dunn Toby Keith Alan Jackson George Strait Alabama Randy Travis Tim McGraw Darius Rucker Rascal Flatts Trace Adkins That’s my top ten, in no particular order.
Just the other day, my friends at work sang 'Delta Dawn', so you can't forget Tanya Tucker. Reba McEntire has quite a few hits. Glenn Campbell? I think later on we will be in the middle of having dinner or driving somewhere and we will experience an 'Oh Ya... What About...?' moment.
Brother Polo, I appreciate you not stopping every minute to interject your opinion. I appreciate your honesty about how you feel about Dolly's song. Thanks for your honesty and kindness, brother!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This list wouldn’t be complete without a song by Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Brad Paisley, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire, The Judds, Bill Monroe, Alabama, Hank Williams, Jr., Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, David Allen Coe, Buck Owens, Hank Snow, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Maddox Brothers and Rose, Woody Guthrie, Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Mel Tillis, Roy Clark, Townes Van Zant, Bob Wills, Travis Tritt, Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Brooks and Dunn, Sara Evans, Grandpa Jones, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Zac Brown Band, Trace Adkins, Ronnie Milsap, Glen Campbell, Ray Charles, Cody Johnson, Dierks Bentley, Cody Johnson, Eric Church, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs just to name a few.
Greatest Country Songs of All Time:: 1. He Stopped Loving Her Today 2. Sing Me Back Home 3. Sunday Morning Coming Down 4. When You Say Nothing At All 5. Amarillo by Morning 6. Stand by Your Nan 7. Coal Miner's Daughter 8. Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone? 9. When I Call Your Name 10. Where Were You When the World Stop Turnin'?
My commendations for including many of the old classics. So many of these "Greatest of All Time" rankings exclude anything over 10 year old. Of course given the large body of Country Music, you can't include everything in just 30 choices. I don't object to any you have listed, but I could think of some songs and artists that couldn't make your list. A shout out to Marty Robbins when it was Country AND Western Music.
I got 5 for ya: Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley/Alison Krause The Ride - David Allen Coe Phantom 309 - Red Sovine Farewell Party - Gene Watson By the Time I Get To Phoenix - Glen Campbell
Johnny Cash is definitely enigmatic and mercurially talented, he is not and most likely would reject the title of the “Father of Country Music”. Had you classified Hank Williams Sr, you would have been close but still mistaken. The title goes to the “ole’ blue yodeler”, Jimmy Robers. You also needed to mention, Uncle Dave Macon, Rogen Miller, Porter Wagoner, ET Ernest Tubb, Red Foley, Lefty Frizzell, Stonewall Jackson, Ray Price, Cal Smith, Hank Thompson, The Wilburn Brothers, Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins, Jim Ed and the Browns, Jim Reeves, Jimmy Dean, John Anderson, Bobby Bare, Waylon, Hank Snow, Roy Acuff, Vern Gosdin, Mac Davis, Glen Campbell, Janie Fricke, Mickie Gilley, The Kendell’s, Dwight Yoakam, Alabama, Don Gibson, Bill Anderson, Webb Pierce, The Carter Family w/wo June, ok June Carter Cash, Sammi Smith, Emmy Lou Harris, Jeannie Seely, Donna Fargo, Skeeter Davis, Barbara Mandrell, Crystal Gale, Lynn Anderson, Moe Bandy, Joe Stampley, The Bellamy Brothers, Ferlin Husky, Sonny James, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Gene Watson, The Gatlin Brothers. Thee still a 100 more I've yet to mention. I haven’t even gotten into Bluegrass, Someone else takeover. Oh, ok, Ringo and Ray Charles, yeah, they both did country songs that charted.
This is such a large genre. Agree that all 30 are in the pantheon. It's worth my shouting out Lyle Lovett's "If I had a Boat", as well as "Walk Through The Bottomland."
"Poncho and Lefty" Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Brilliant song writing and can't imagine anyone but Nelson and Haggard bringing the lyrics to life.
I didn't mean to imply either singer wrote the song. Thanks for letting me know who did. I do know Nelson said it was the best song ever crafted and that's saying a lot as he's a talented writer too.
Not a country type listener but so many of these songs I love. I could of missed it ( was listening to most of it while I was tired) but did they have Garth Brooks on there? I also love A Broken Wing by Martina McBride.
"Man! I Feel Like a Woman" belongs in the pop category, not country, as do a couple others here. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" should have been the Willie Nelson pick. Nothing by Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride, or Reba McEntire?
While I enjoy these lists just to see if there is something I'm not familiar with, it's impossible to include, or even agree on, all the best songs. It's so subjective. But I appreciate your channel for trying. 😉
1. Beer for my Horses- Toby Keith 2. Country boy can survive- Hank Williams Jr. 3. Country must be countrywide- Brantley Gilbert 4. My Church- Marren Moris 5. Chicken fry- Zack Brown I may have gotten the last one mixed up i dont listen to, too much country but every song listed besides "I walk the line" i completely disagree with
Austin: Blake Shelton, Wichita Lineman: Glenn Campbell, Ain't Nothin Bout You: Brooks and Dunn, Gone: Montgomery Gentry: Kiss This: Aaron Tippin, Should Have Been a Cowboy: Toby Keith, I Will Always Love You: Dolly Parton, I'm Gonna Fly: Paul Brandt, Live Like you Were Dying: Tim McGraw, Cry: Faith Hill, Gunpowder And Lead: Miranda Lambert, Stay; Sugarland.
A few that should definitely have been included: Don’t it Make My Brown Eyes Blue, Crystal Gayle Delta Dawn, Tanya Tucker Ode To Billie Joe, Bobbie Gentry I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, Lynn Anderson Paint Me a Birmingham, Tracy Lawrence Almost Like a Song, Ronnie Milsap Forever And Ever Amen, Randy Travis Islands In the Stream, Kenny and Dolly 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Kathy Mattea More Than a Name on a Wall, Statler Brothers King of the Road, Roger Miller
Neon Moon Ain't that lonely yet Some fools never learn Don't close your eyes Literally anything from the Killing Time album Rose colored glasses Take this job and shove it I believe in you Pretty much anything Waylon put out in the 70s Night Life Wichita Lineman Walking the floor over you Hello walls Blue eyes crying in the rain Pancho and Lefty Wasted days and wasted nights
I feel like "I shouldve been a Cowboy", is a so g that was written by a guy whose mama listened to" Mamas Dont Let your babies grow up to be cowboys." And now he regrets being a doctor, lawyer, or such.
Honestly I’d give Tom T Hall all the credit for Harper’s Valley PTA. Jeanie never had success again but Tom became one of the most influential players in the country music game until his tragic end and he is dearly missed.
I’d love a list of top 20 most positive/uplifting songs… could do one cross-genres list or one list per genre… but triumph songs “hold on” and “magic power” would have to be included for me…
This ain't a list unless Keith Whitley is on it. Keith had 5 consecutive #1 hit singles. Keith Whitley would have gave George Strait a run for 60 # 1 hits if Keith would have lived... Just my opinion but millions of others will agree with me. Waylon Jennings said when Keith died he was the greatest country singer ever to live. Waylon saying this hold a lot of weight! Very notable thing to mention here is this George Strait Amarillo by Morning has 48 million views & Keith Whitley When you say nothing at all has 48 million views but hear is the true test Keith Whitley Don't Close Your Eyes has 52 million views. No knock on Strait but if Keith Whitley would have lived George would be sharing king of country with Keith i have no doubt about it. Just think about this Keith has been dead now since 1989 & 52 million views people don't jus5 forget the greatest country singer ever ugh ugh Keith Whitley is very much still alive in our hearts bc his songs are timeless.
I'm sorry, but that #1 is pure nostalgia and love for the artist. Great song, but greatest of all time? Come on. Heck, your #2 pick towers above your #1. 🤷♂
Overall it’s a pretty dang good list. It’s impossible to pick only 30 songs. And I could only come up with a few complaints. Just because I’m hating on all the new songs doesn’t mean I’m some old head that only likes old music. They just chose REALLY poor examples of modern country music. And while I LOVE modern country music (Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks, Charley Crocket, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, the list goes on) even I gotta admit that most of those guys are too new to be put on an “all time” list. 1.) Tom T Hall deserves all the credit for Harper’s valley PTA. Jeanie was a one hit wonder off of Tom’s song. Tom went on to be a country music legend whose influence is felt still today. He is dearly missed. 2.) Shania doesn’t belong. At least not that song. MAYBE you could throw Any Man Of Mine in there bc he has at least SOME semblance to country music 3.) Carrie doesn’t belong period. And where on EARTH do you hear “honky tonk” in Before He Cheats???? Do you know what honky tonk sounds like??? It sounds like Hank Sr, Buck Owens, Waylon, Willie, Hank jr, Dwight Yoakam, Charley Crockett, Braxton Keith, Zach Top. That’s what honky tonk sounds like. 4.) Willie Nelson belonged there but I would have picked Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain or Whiskey River 5.) As much as I LOVE Patsy and Dolly, I don’t think they belongs above Hank. Without Hank country dies in the cradle. Period. Maybeeee I could see Jones or Cash above him but even that is a STRETCH. 6.) Hank should be number 1. No question about it. You cannot understand the importance of Hank Sr to country music. 7.) personally….I’d Go Hank, Merle, Cash, Dolly, Waylon, Lynn, Willie, Jones, Strait, Pride. Those are my top 10
My Friend Fred by Sammy Kershaw his best song ever. Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill I Will always Love By Dolly Parton I would pick this song over all other songs as it is the best known of her songs as it have been covered by a lot of singers. Big Iron by Colter Wall cover of Marty Robbins' hit. Forever and Ever Amen by Randy Travis Looking for Love In All The Wrong Places by Johnny Lee take This Job And Shove It by Johnny Paycheck Slow Hand by Conway Twitty taking a Pointer Sisters' song to the top of country. Somebody's Knocking by Terry Gibbs Ode To Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry Back In The Saddle Again by Gene Autry one of the OG country western music in a movie that should considered. King of The Road by Roger Miller 16 Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean Fancy by Reba Your Man by Josh Turner The Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd Some of Clay Walker's best slow songs. Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss Those are the best songs. Sadly radio won't play true country artists like Sammy Kershaw and Colter Wall these days. Even Charley Crockett won't be played either. Colter Wall and Charley Crockett both have the classic country sound.
This list has several hits but a an amazing number of misses. The obvious choices of the legendary artists from Hank, Johnny, Kris, Willie and George to Patsy, Tammy, Dolly, Loretta and Kitty were low hanging fruit. When you get to the more contemporary songs is where you completely blow it, falling for pop novelty schlock instead of well written actual music. For God's sake - Harper Valley PTA ahead of Sunday Morning Coming Down?!?! A song that put Jeannie C Riley on the map for about 5 minutes? And Goodbye Earl?? The Chicks did many better songs than that that. Feel Like a Woman is no more country than a New York hot dog. Where is Martina Mc Bride's Independence Day or Broken Wing? Randy Travis' Forever and Ever Amen? Brad Paisley and Alison Krause Whiskey Lullaby. Brooks and Dunn anything. Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert, Zac Brown, Little Big Town. And many more are MIA. Go back to the drawing board. You failed this test miserably.

Mountain Music by Alabama easily makes the top 30 others were correct the chicks don’t make the top 100.

Goerge should be first
Crap list, thanks.
Goodbye Earl doesn’t deserve to be anywhere close to the top 30 of all time
Catchy song, but come on now. Let’s be serious. Then again I can’t think of anything else of theirs to put in this list 🤷♂️
There are a few on this list that I’ve legit never heard of. Mostly as you get closer to number 30. Of course I’ve heard Chris Stapleton, and I’m not saying he don’t belong in here. I’d honestly put him a little higher on the list tbh.
"I Will Always Love You" ... Dolly Parton
"Who's Ever In New England" ... Reba
"Live Like You Were Dying" ... Tim McGraw
"I Wonder" ... Kelli Pickler
"Crying" ... KD Lang
"Kiss This" ... Aaron Tippin
"Boot Scootin' Boggie" ... Brooks & Dunn
and the country song that made history when despite peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, was the #1 song of 2000 ... "Breathe" ... Faith Hill
"Breathe" was my favorite for a long time back then.
Okay, for those who don't know music at all. The arrangement, tempo, and baseline for Chris Stapleton's (Tennessee Whiskey) comes from Etta James. It's her song (I'd Rather Go Blind).
David Allen Coe Wrote this song and In My Opinion Coe's is the Best Version.
@@s.rry-guld2961 okay, no one can argue with an opinion.
George jones also sung it
George Jones has the best version, cause when The Possum sang a song…it was sung!!!!
Yes, someone who mentions Chris Ledoux!
No Hank jr. No Keith Whitley. No David Allen Coe. No Randy Travis. No brooks and Dunn. Not even a John Conlee or ETC. y’all crazy
John Conlee and Randy Travis are the only talented artists amongst those you listed that aren't racist bastards. I'm not saying Whitley and Brooks and Dunn aren't racist but they certainly lack talent.
AND ILL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME AND U NEVER MINDED STANDING IN THE RAIN.
Theyd rather put new country cause thats what sells
TOTALLY AGREE! No country’s best list without country boy can survive has zero credibility. ZERO…
Agreed
Always stay Humble and Kind... Number one for me... Especially in our world now.
I grew up on this music,my grandma would sing Johnny cash songs, jolene, the gambler and a few others
Not sure if I’d make it #1 but definitely on the list.
David Allen Coe - You Never Even Called Me By My Name
It is the perfect Country and Western Music!! 😂
A fine song. I have it on my country playlist in a duet with another famous singer, I forget which one.
Wonderful job on the video Watchmojo and Ryan's narration is always on point. My top 5 country songs of all time.
1. He stopped loving her today. George Jones.
2. You look so good in love. George Strait.
3. Hello Darlin. Conway Twitty
4. Hurt. Johnny Cash
5. I will always love you. Dolly Parton and Tennessee Whiskey. Chris Stapleton.
Hurt is actually a Nine Inch Nails song.
Fun video. Some additions on my list: Kitty Wells- Each Day, Tim McGraw-Don't Take The Girl, Doby Gray- Drift Away, Gillian Welch- Whiskey Girl, Mickey Gilley- Lookin For Love, The White Buffalo- Damned
Love country music it's perfect when traveling especially on long road trips
Impossible to choose a top 30
So glad to see Charley Pride included! I listened to him when I was little. I would demand my parents put the record on every Sunday. Sunday was special each week. We listened to a bunch, that I would pick, (hey I was 3!) Band we would listen to them while eating breakfast. Also, when walking into our reception after our wedding ceremony, it was to "Ring of Fire!"😂😂😂 How can you not love the mariachi horns!?😂😂😂
I love that you included the ORIGINAL AND BEST VERSION of Wagon Wheel.
Let's make this the top 35 and include:
Fancy - Reba
Song of the South - Alabama
Brooks & Dunn - Neon Moon
Don't take the Girl - Tim McGraw
Forever and Ever, Amen - Randy Travis
This is one of my favorite music genres
Very good choices! However I’d like to add 3 more:
Whiskey Lullaby- Brad Paisley
Red- Blake Shelton
Chiseled in Stone- Vern Gosdin
I can't believe Vince Gill, Alabama or Brooks and Dunn didn't make it on this list with any of their remarkable songs.
Yes! Or The Oakridge Boys!
1. Broken hearted me (Anne Murray) [my favorite song of any genre]
2. Could I have this dance? (Anne Murray)
3. East bound and down (Jerry Reed - theme from my favorite movie!)
4. Take this job and shove it (Johnny Paycheck)
5. Every day I have to cry (Steve Alaimo)
6. I still miss someone (Johnny Cash)
7. Somebody's always sayin' goodbye (Anne Murray)
8. All my exes live in Texas (George Strait)

14. Act naturally (Buck Owens)
15. Flowers on the wall (Statler Brothers)
16. What's made Milwaukee famous (Jerry Lee Lewis)
17. Thanks a lot (Ernest Tubb)

27. Crazy ex girlfriend (Miranda Lambert)
28. Sixteen tons (Tennessee Ernie Ford)
29. She thinks I still care (George Jones)
30. D I V O R C E (Tammy Wynette)
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Waterloo (Stonewall Jackson)
Stil (Bill Anderson)
The bottle let me down (Merle Haggard)
She got the goldmine I got the shaft (Jerry Reed)
I've got a tiger by the tail (Buck Owens)
The man who comes around (Sweet Violet Boys)
In the jailhouse now (Webb Pierce)

Don't come home a-drinkin' (Loretta Lynn)
Sea of hearbreak (Don Gibson)
Muddy Water (Stonewall Jackson)
I don't wanna play house (Tammy Wynette)
Patsy Cline was the greatest female singer in the history of country music. And one of the top five female singers of all time in any category.
Happy wednesday morning, Ryan. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
No agreement
No argument
Just sooo many great memories.
Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes
why are there no Glen Campbell songs like Wichita Lineman, Rhinestone Cowboy or By The Time I Get To Phoenix
Hank Williams is the king of country for me and Loretta lyn is the queen of country for me! Also the Beatles are the real kings of rock!
This COUNTRY not Rock. And there so many others that are better than the Beatles
What about Vince Gill's Go rest high on that mountain or his just look at us
Delta Dawn by Tanya Tucker
I'd include either Go Rest High or When I Call Your Name from Vince.
r.i.p Toby Keith :(
I still can't believe he is gone, but Toby is with God mow and he is singing in Heaven.😢.
@lynnefromthelake Yes, Toby had stomach cancer.
@lynnefromthelake Where have you been all year?
When I was growing up there were three albums and only three albums in the house... The Best of Hank Williams... The Best of Hank Snow... The Best of Eddy Arnold... the one radio we had was tuned to a country station and nobody touched it. It was on every night when we went to bed in a two-bedroom house where my parents had a bedroom and I shared a room with two little sisters...
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Merle Haggard's Okie from Muskogee or John Anderson's Swingin'.
I was also thinking of a list of best country songs by women. Some thoughts:
Kitty Wells Honky Tonk Angel
Patsy Cline Crazy
Anything by Loretta or Dolly. Really. They both beautifully evoked the inner lives of regular people in their songs. If pressed to pick one for each, it's Coal Miner's Daughter and Jolene (or Coat of Many Colors), respectively.
Carter Family (well, mostly female) - Will the Circle Be Unbroken
Tammy Wynette Stand By Your Man
Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden
Bobbie Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe
Dottie West - Country Sunshine
Tanya Tucker - Delta Dawn
Barbara Mandrell - Sleeping Single in a Double Bed
Juice Newton - The Sweetest Thing (I've Ever Known)
Deborah Allen - Baby I Lied
Roseanne Cash - Seven Year Ache
Patty Loveless Timber I'm Falling in Love
The Judds - Grandpa
Wynonna Judd - Tell Me Why. Hard to pick just one, she's got so many great songs.
Pam Tillis - Maybe It Was Memphis
Reba McEntire - Fancy
Martina McBride - Independence Day
Trisha Yearwood - She's In Love with the Boy
Faith Hill - Wild One (I actually prefer It's Your Love, but that's a duet with Tim)
Jo Dee Messina - Heads Carolina, Tails California
Shania Twain - Any Man of Mine
Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance
Sara Evans Born to Fly
Dixie Chicks (now just "The Chicks) Wide Open Spaces; close second Cowboy Take Me Away
I stopped listening to country music after the whole Toby Keith/Dixie Chicks feud and can't say much about recent acts, so don't get on me about leaving out Taylor Swift.
I have been reading comments...and have not seen Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, or poop!?! It eludes me...Jeannie C. Riley I believe is her name..and Bobby Gentry. Not all had decades long careers, but they had a huge impact.
I miss, and mourn for, one of our state's finest singers: Toby Keith.
I wouldn’t call myself the biggest country music fan but there are a few I have in mind that are missing: Tennessee Waltz is an absolute classic. I don’t know how you can talk about country music without mentioning that song. I also like the Chicks’ version of Traveling Soldier.
Jerry Jeff Walker - Mr Bo Jangles - London Homesick Blues
I love London Homesick Blues!
Desperados Waiting For A Train.
You missed: Tex Ritter, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Alabama, Oakridge Boys, Statler Brothers, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Buck Owens, Crystal Gale, Eddie Rabbitt, and many others!! 🤣 🤣
I love a rainy night!
While many subscribers of this channel may have differing Top-30 Greatest Country Song lists. One thing is for sure. "The Dance" by Garth Brooks will definitely be on 99% of them.
Here’s my list of top artists:
Brooks & Dunn
Toby Keith
Alan Jackson
George Strait
Alabama
Randy Travis
Tim McGraw
Darius Rucker
Rascal Flatts
Trace Adkins
That’s my top ten, in no particular order.
Wichita Lineman - Glen Campbell
Just the other day, my friends at work sang 'Delta Dawn', so you can't forget Tanya Tucker. Reba McEntire has quite a few hits. Glenn Campbell? I think later on we will be in the middle of having dinner or driving somewhere and we will experience an 'Oh Ya... What About...?' moment.
Brother Polo, I appreciate you not stopping every minute to interject your opinion. I appreciate your honesty about how you feel about Dolly's song. Thanks for your honesty and kindness, brother!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Ladies and Gentlemen... Mr Conway Twitty
Lol
This list wouldn’t be complete without a song by Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, Brad Paisley, Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire, The Judds, Bill Monroe, Alabama, Hank Williams, Jr., Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, David Allen Coe, Buck Owens, Hank Snow, Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Maddox Brothers and Rose, Woody Guthrie, Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Mel Tillis, Roy Clark, Townes Van Zant, Bob Wills, Travis Tritt, Clint Black, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Brooks and Dunn, Sara Evans, Grandpa Jones, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves, Zac Brown Band, Trace Adkins, Ronnie Milsap, Glen Campbell, Ray Charles, Cody Johnson, Dierks Bentley, Cody Johnson, Eric Church, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs just to name a few.
Greatest Country Songs of All Time::
1. He Stopped Loving Her Today
2. Sing Me Back Home
3. Sunday Morning Coming Down
4. When You Say Nothing At All
5. Amarillo by Morning
6. Stand by Your Nan
7. Coal Miner's Daughter
8. Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone?
9. When I Call Your Name
10. Where Were You When the World Stop Turnin'?
I love He Stopped Loving Her Today - do you know what the song is about? Did the wife die and when he dies she stopped loving her ?
Hank Williams is the grandfather of country music, George Jones is the father of country music, George Strait is the last of that era ❤️👍
I got 5 for ya:
Whiskey Lullaby - Brad Paisley/Alison Krause
The Ride - David Allen Coe
Phantom 309 - Red Sovine
Farewell Party - Gene Watson
By the Time I Get To Phoenix - Glen Campbell
Yessss love Brad Paisley whiskey lullaby top five from Brad and top of my favorites list overall love the story and the execution is beautiful
Ya the fact they completley ignored all the sub genre of Red Sovine, Dave Dudley, etc was a huge miss imo
Tanya Tucker Delta Dawn
This is such a large genre. Agree that all 30 are in the pantheon. It's worth my shouting out Lyle Lovett's "If I had a Boat", as well as "Walk Through The Bottomland."
Overlooking Reba is an absolute crime.
"Before He Cheats" is a great song!
"Poncho and Lefty" Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Brilliant song writing and can't imagine anyone but Nelson and Haggard bringing the lyrics to life.
I mean…did you ever hear Townes van Zandt?
@@michaelmcintyre4690, that’s exactly what I was thinking when I read that comment.
I didn't mean to imply either singer wrote the song. Thanks for letting me know who did. I do know Nelson said it was the best song ever crafted and that's saying a lot as he's a talented writer too.
Some of these aren't even that artists best song. But, I guess this is the best non-country fans could do.
Shania Twain's song still sounds so great when I hear it and is always welcome when it pops up and I love her "Robert Palmer" impersonation video.
But it's really pushing it to call that song country. Pure pop. I would veto that from this list.
Not a country type listener but so many of these songs I love. I could of missed it ( was listening to most of it while I was tired) but did they have Garth Brooks on there? I also love A Broken Wing by Martina McBride.
I really expected "will the circle be unbroken' to be number one and surprised by the lack of carter family and jimmie rogers in general
It's truly the number one country song of all time by the people that know
The highway by Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift & Hurt by Johnny Cash & sleeping single in a double bed by Barbara Mandrel
I would have included on this list Dean Martin's "my riffle, my pony and me", Bobby Mackey's "Johanna" and "Highwayman" by the Highwaymen.
Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger, Little Big Town's Boondocks, Red Sovine's Phantom 309 or Teddy Bear, Anything from Roy Orbison.
Old Violin by Johnny Paycheck and Ghost In This House
sung by either Shenandoah or Alison Krauss are missing from this top country songs list.
I love a rainy night!
The version of Friends in Low Places used in this video is not Garth Brooks. It's a cover of some sort.
They may not have gotten the clearance to use it. Some musicians/music groups/labels are flag happy when their songs are used.
16 Tons and Big John should at least be honorable mentions.
1. Beer for my Horses- Toby Keith
2. Country boy can survive- Hank Williams Jr.
3. Country must be countrywide- Brantley Gilbert
4. My Church- Marren Moris
5. Chicken fry- Zack Brown
I may have gotten the last one mixed up i dont listen to, too much country but every song listed besides "I walk the line" i completely disagree with
How do you not have Reba on this!
Austin: Blake Shelton, Wichita Lineman: Glenn Campbell, Ain't Nothin Bout You: Brooks and Dunn, Gone: Montgomery Gentry: Kiss This: Aaron Tippin, Should Have Been a Cowboy: Toby Keith,
I Will Always Love You: Dolly Parton, I'm Gonna Fly: Paul Brandt, Live Like you Were Dying: Tim McGraw, Cry: Faith Hill, Gunpowder And Lead: Miranda Lambert, Stay; Sugarland.
Need Alan Jackson’s Gone country ,John Anderson straight tequila night , & time marches on by Tracy Lawrence on this list list!!!
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny C
Rose Garden - Lynn Andersen
Ode to Billy Joe - Bobbie Gentry
No Hank Jr., Travis Tritt, David Allen Coe, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, or Reba?
Rose Garden by Lynn Anderson should have been on the list.
I'm surprised Randy Travis wasn't on here....
you should do modern country songs next...ones after 1980 or 1990
Should've included that one song by that person that sang about stuff.
A few that should definitely have been included:
Don’t it Make My Brown Eyes Blue, Crystal Gayle
Delta Dawn, Tanya Tucker
Ode To Billie Joe, Bobbie Gentry
I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, Lynn Anderson
Paint Me a Birmingham, Tracy Lawrence
Almost Like a Song, Ronnie Milsap
Forever And Ever Amen, Randy Travis
Islands In the Stream, Kenny and Dolly
18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, Kathy Mattea
More Than a Name on a Wall, Statler Brothers
King of the Road, Roger Miller
Brown Eyes Blue was in my all time top ten for two decades, before dropping way down. Not really country.
I’m going to assume this is a solid list, because I very very very seldom listen to country, but even I know half of these! 😆
This is a pretty good list but I’m kinda surprised that Dixieland delight wasn’t on this list
Neon Moon
Ain't that lonely yet
Some fools never learn
Don't close your eyes
Literally anything from the Killing Time album
Rose colored glasses
Take this job and shove it
I believe in you
Pretty much anything Waylon put out in the 70s
Night Life
Wichita Lineman
Walking the floor over you
Hello walls
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Pancho and Lefty
Wasted days and wasted nights
I feel like "I shouldve been a Cowboy", is a so g that was written by a guy whose mama listened to" Mamas Dont Let your babies grow up to be cowboys." And now he regrets being a doctor, lawyer, or such.
If you wanted to prove you don't know county music, you succeeded.
Amen.
I feel like Josh Turner should’ve been in here somewhere, his voice❤
Same here, he’s one of my favorite singers
I like the song called the gambler the same year I was born in 1978.
"Seven Spanish Angels" by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson. And "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes" by George Jones.
Honestly I’d give Tom T Hall all the credit for Harper’s Valley PTA. Jeanie never had success again but Tom became one of the most influential players in the country music game until his tragic end and he is dearly missed.
The biggest omission on this list? "WHISKEY LULLABY" What were you thinking?!? 😲
Can we get this playlist on vinyl??
I would've loved to see Livin' on Love and The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia on this list.
I'm sorry, but that #1 is pure nostalgia and love for the artist. Great song, but greatest of all time? Come on. Heck, your #2 pick towers above your #1. 🤷♂
- carrie underwood (before he cheats)
+ any waylon jennings song
MAYBE you could throw Any Man Of Mine in there bc he has at least SOME semblance to country music
3.) Carrie doesn’t belong period.
4.) Willie Nelson belonged there but I would have picked Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain or Whiskey River
5.) As much as I LOVE Patsy and Dolly, I don’t think they belongs above Hank.
Go Rest High On That Mountain by Vince Gill
I Will always Love By Dolly Parton I would pick this song over all other songs as it is the best known of her songs as it have been covered by a lot of singers.
Big Iron by Colter Wall cover of Marty Robbins' hit.
Forever and Ever Amen by Randy Travis
Looking for Love In All The Wrong Places by Johnny Lee
take This Job And Shove It by Johnny Paycheck
Slow Hand by Conway Twitty taking a Pointer Sisters' song to the top of country.
Somebody's Knocking by Terry Gibbs
Ode To Billy Joe by Bobbie Gentry
Back In The Saddle Again by Gene Autry one of the OG country western music in a movie that should considered.
King of The Road by Roger Miller
16 Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford
Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean
Fancy by Reba
Your Man by Josh Turner
The Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd
Some of Clay Walker's best slow songs.
Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss
Those are the best songs. Sadly radio won't play true country artists like Sammy Kershaw and Colter Wall these days. Even Charley Crockett won't be played either. Colter Wall and Charley Crockett both have the classic country sound.
My newborn cousin is named Conway. Hope he lives up to the name.
Yeah, the list definitely needed more songs from the past few decades.
Forgot King of the Road
