    I watched nearly your entire collection of videos (at the time) before starting my dreads last year and the general idea I got from all those hours of information is that your hair will do what it wants to no matter how much effort you put into maintaining it. I'd guess after a year, mine are half way to mature since my hair is very fine and I have no illusions that they will look "perfect" during the process. I palm roll once a week after showering and separating but the ones that are crazy loopy are impossible to manipulate into any other shape and I've accepted that. I have some friends though (fellow dread heads) that get on me all the time about my flat loopy ones, but I don't care! I love my weird little tentacles just how they are.

      Oh and a question, will the little whispy bits of hair that have worked their way out of my sections eventually work back in or do I have to do something to rejoin them?

      I do exactly the same... 3 washes per week, and palm rolling on saturday... I use a bit of aloe on the saturday ; ) Its my little secret... lol

    My top tip for rounding flat/bumpy spots in the lock is to put a bead over that part of the lock and it should become more round over time.

    my dreds are almost 3yrs old now, and i have 2 flat dreds which has been something beyond my control. when they were younger i had alot more flat ones, which seemingly have sorted themselves out, i used to hate them but now im quite fond, theyve always done their own thing, and they change alot as time goes by i guess thats why we say a dred journey? ... once i realised they were gonna do what the hell they wanted no matter how you try to shape them, i began to enjoy them alot more.

    I have a few flat dreads but I really don't mind that. I love all my dreads no matter what shape and size they are, they're just doing what they do haha.
    Love your videos btw, lots of great advice for new and old dread heads. I'm six and a half years into my dread journey but like watching 'dread video's to see how everyone else is doing theirs.

I wish this channel was around 10 yrs ago when I first started lol. Cheers! Hope ur holidays are going well. And BTW I totally felt what u said when u decided to cut them!

    Im 38 months in, free form. In the first few months I was noticing a loc that was flattening out fairly, so what I did was twist it at the root after every wash to undo the flattness. It worked

    My locs are natural - have been growing them for about three years now and some are round, some are very very flat and none of them are the same length I also have LOADS of loose hair underneath still and I never really bother tiding the roots. Very much neglected haha. (I do separate them when I wash though!)
    Nothing P's me off more than hearing "They aren't round and neat?" "Why are they not the same width?" etc...
    As if locks have a certain way of forming!??
    Even if you do get them tidied at a hairdressers, all hair types form locs differently so the outcome after months and years of having them are so diverse.. isn't that the beauty of dreadlocks? / And how different they can form person to person?

    my dreads are almost two years. I guess they're freeform seeing how I didn't really plam roll or twist and rip. although sometimes I did roll them after showering to get the water out. I only have one dread that semi flat I noticed the roots are always kind of flat. when they were younger i had a few more flat ones which I decided to start putting beads in and that was the end of their flatness.

    Like and a question! Have you suffered any social adverse effects from dreads? I'm not sure what the tone is across the pond but here in the states, In the last year alone I have been been accused few times of racism because my dreads.

  • @moonroach4839
    @moonroach4839 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been freeforming for almost 3 years most of mine are flat because I am not super OCD about palm rolling or anything like that. Flat dreads on the back make it easier to sleep in my opinion as well.

  • @notapom
    @notapom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i don't think there is much you can do about flat dreads tbh. Many on the back of my head had more rectangular sections on top of sleeping on them made them impossible to be round. I used to hate them and be paranoid about them but as the years go by i cared less and less. Having a feel about now and they don't seem as flat, more oval. Not sure if this is because i don't care anymore or if they have rounded out. they were already well into maturity when they were flat so i'm leaning more towards not caring haha

    I have a few flat dreads. And I've had my dreads for about 1 year and 7 months. I never really liked them tbh. I am hoping that they will round out more. Hopefully they will my tips are still not fully locked

    my dreads are only about 4 months old but are very loopy and look squiggly or wavy... will they round out as they lock up? do I need to palm roll or will they still round out eventually?

  • @kindly-winch1367

    Question : some of my dreads have split into 2 - 3 separate dreads at the roots, should I let them do their own thing or should I separate them? I have one dread that has split into 2 almost half way through. Its like my hair is free forming into separate ones as they grow out.

    My dreads are decently flat since I started them they were 2 inches long, and I kinda just said forget palm rolling them. They look round though (:

    • @tdaddy1092
      @tdaddy1092 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's kinda crazy though when you first start most people have a very strong sense of what they want them to look like, then it just goes to shit over the years and you don't care.

    hey! i started my locs 3 months ago today! i’ve only retwisted twice and i was wondering how long does it take for my roots to loc? they are super loose and curly ( mexican with thic curly hair)

    • @tdaddy1092
      @tdaddy1092 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it was close too 6 months to really have the locs knotted all the way through, after that they just got tighter and more defined. Since your hair is curly( and mine is straight) yours should lock a little faster. I'd say 4-6 months you'll have a solid loc, but it's different for everyone.

    Ive had my dreads for about 7 months now and there is about 2 to 3 inches of loose hair at my roots. Is there any way to get my roots to lock up?

    • @MissMarpley
      @MissMarpley 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      take a dread and hold the beginning of the dreaded part between the tips of your index and middle finger (like a cigarette :D) and then rub it against your scalp in small, circular movements :) this is called "tighten roots" (at least I think so) and the loose hair should lock up after a few minutes of rubbing.

    • @justinmurray8920
      @justinmurray8920 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes dreads get thicker over time

    • @notapom
      @notapom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes some of mine have doubled at least in thickness, i had to separate a number into thinner locks as they were so fat. In hindsight, if i was starting again, i would have smaller sections knowing how much thicker they get. It's easier to congo thinner dreads than to separate thicker ones. After separating or brushing out and starting again, the majority of mine are about pinkie thickness, a couple pencil thickness but still have a couple as thick as boardmarkers!! haha I find the pinkie finger thickness best as you get a fuller head with less gaps between dreads showing scalp (which i hated), plus they dry heaps faster than big fatties!!
      i actually like that they are not all a unified size now as it gives them a more natural, neglect look to them
